Comedian and host of the podcast Weed and Grub (go check it out!) joins David and Winston to talk Spam, St. Louis style pizza and more! For this week's Hot Tastes, Winston wants to see cauliflower as a replacement for chicken items on more menus, David wants more internet recipe attribution to the original source, and Mike says there's an appropriate time and place for the single-ply napkin. For the tasting, regular, jalapeno and turkey spam are fried up and served alongside a spam fried rice, a bbq smoked spam, and a surprise dessert (SPOILER: it's a spam pineapple upside down cake). One of these things was named "the best think you've made for the show ever."

Comedian/storyteller Jen Curcio guests this week to discuss her dislike of Boba Tea/Bubble Tea (you know, the tea with the tapioca balls in it). For a round of Hot Tastes, David is no fan of French's new ad campaign AND he wants one homemade jam at every restaurant breakfast while Winston wants the amount of bacon in a side order of bacon to be made clear. For the tasting, Black Milk Tea, Thai Ice Tea and Honeydew Milk Tea bobas from Ten Ren's Tea Time are served alongside two popping boba drinks from Brit Boba, as well as a homemade vanilla pudding with black boba balls.

Grilled Cheese with Coni Constantine May 23, 2019

Host of Lady Balls Daily and the My Dear Delicious podcast Coni Constantine reveals that not only does she not like grilled cheese, but cheese in general may be the issue. For a round of Hot Tastes, Winston wants one cheap beer option at every bar and David thinks that no beginner chef should attempt a recipe with more than ten steps. For the tasting, grilled cheeses made with american, cheddar, havarti, and smoked gouda are served along side a welsh rarebit, a croque monsieur and a blueberry and brie grilled cheese.

Host of Choose Your Own Religion Joe Welker joins David/Winston this week to discuss coconut, the nut so loco they call it coco. Jacque Wafeur returns in a picnic based Situation Eat and Winston attempts a public execution of that character with his situation, though the character narrowly escapes. For the tasting, fresh young coconut meat, coconut water, coconut rice, coconut chips, dried coconut strips, a toasted coconut pudding and buko pie from Sari Sari are served up.

Comedian, musician and host of Baywatch Watch Zach Olsen joins us this week to see if our hosts can prove the merits of capers to him. For a round of Hot Tastes, Winston wants popcorn to be more ubiquitous in public spaces (though his gas station example is suspect) while David thinks that fancy restaurants should stop pretending like they've discovered cured egg yolks. For the tasting, capers, caperberries, a salad with a lemon caper vinaigrette, chicken piccata and a chocolate cranberry caper cookie are served up.

For a round of Hot Tastes, Winston wants shredded cheese kept off of burgers, David wants a single rider line for himself at ice cream shops, and Michael wants popcorn professionals to handle the buttering at the movie theater. Founder of HomeCooked Hailley Field joins David and Winston this week to tackle the colloquial Fig Newton (recently rebranded as Newtons by Nabisco). For a round of Hot Tastes, Winston believes that Whole Foods 365 pizza is simply too good while David asks that the veneer of friendship with a server if established early on at a bar or restaurant (it’s a doozy of a hot taste). For the tasting, five Nabisco Newtons (regular fig, whole wheat fig, fat free fig, triple berry and blueberry) are served alongside crisped up Fig Newtons with whipped goat cheese, as well as a homemade oatmeal fig bar and homemade fig newtons.
