    Intermittent Fasting as a Diabetes Solution May 25, 2018

    Dr. Jason Fung demystifies type-2 diabetes treatment and how intermittent fasting can change a diagnosis.Nutrition is a large component of healing. Conventional medicine didn’t fully address this aspect in the past. Dr. Jason Fung discovered that giving medication didn’t make any difference in really treating type-2 diabetes. When the kidneys are suffering, the cause must be addressed. Intermittent fasting is a dietary strategy to get excess sugar out of the body. Your body naturally burns off sugar when you don’t feed it for a period of time. Most people fast 12 hours each day between dinner and breakfast. Intermittent fasting increases the fasting period. Fasting isn’t easy. However, it is a natural and free way to start improving your health.     Erin MacDonald shares how you can educate yourself to reach your health and fitness goals.Erin MacDonald, RDN, is more concerned about inflammation and gut health than weight loss. However, diets are all the rage. Promises of grandeur coax people to jump from one diet to the next in an effort to drop the number on their scale. Diet hopping isn’t sustainable or realistic. Erin wants people to understand why they should eat a certain way versus how they are eating now. She wants them to understand how much exercise they need to see the results they seek. The Clean Eating Academy online course is a nine-week program that tackles one subject per week. Participants get blood work done before starting the course and again at the end. Healthy cooking techniques, dining out, grocery shopping, reducing stress and understanding fitness are all components.     One Man's Ironman Experience May 08, 2018

    What's it like to participate in the Ironman challenge?The Ironman competition is quite a physical challenge. Competitors must complete a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run (full marathon). The challenges must be completed consecutively and must be finished within 17 hours. Ted Spiker committed to Ironman. He knew that one second past that 17-hour limit would result in a Did Not Finish (DNF) classification. While Ted wasn’t a strong athlete in his younger years, he worked hard to reach Ironman. Gradient competitions and training prepared him for the event.
