    The WoMed is a space to discuss, debate, and celebrate all things Women in Medicine! Danielle Maltby is joined by co-host Jackie Camardo to bring new issues and faces to light in the medical community. These nursing vets bring humor, reality, and a serious passion for the world around them to discussions on self-care, emerging healthcare trends, education, activism, patient stories, and pop culture representation of the industry. The hosts welcome not just women in medicine, but members of the LGBTQ communities in medicine as well, to ensure more people have a platform to amplify their voices. They are also joined by some of the industry’s biggest experts and thought-leaders!     Diversifying Medicine with Madam President Osose Oboh Dec 14, 2020

    This week D is joined by 4th year med student and President of the Student National Medical Association (SNMA), Osose Oboh! They discuss the residency application process, ranking interviews, how the pandemic has affected the process, and the greatest challenge she has faced in med school. Osose discusses her work with SNMA, a non-profit that focuses on diversifying the face of medicine, and how she worked her way up the program to inevitably become President. As a first generation American, Osose discusses the pressure she was under to follow a certain path. But in addition to being a med student, she is truly a creative spirit; a storyteller and photographer who shares with us her journey of embracing all sides of herself and facing life with a “do it all” mentality.

    Social Work & Nashville Angels with Wonder Woman Amanda Garren Nov 30, 2020

    This week, Danielle is joined by the lovely Amanda Garren. Amanda is a social worker and the president of Nashville Angels, a non-profit supporting children and caretakers in the foster care system. She shares how she discovered her passion for social work, and how she takes care of her own mental health in such a demanding field. She discusses what schooling and classes are like for social work, and the value of integrated healthcare. D and Amanda also discuss youth aging out of the foster care system, the importance of care for these young adults, and the risks they face in making this transition alone. Amanda addresses the common myth that foster parents are just in it for the money, and emphasizes the importance of encouraging great foster parents, of which there are many. They discuss how you rarely hear about the small-town people doing great work, and so, we bring you this inspiring episode!

    Double the Girl Power with Nurses Sarah and Jenna Nov 23, 2020

They talk about getting into navy nursing, their first station duty in Virginia, plus what it’s like to leave the navy. We learn about their dream to open up their own med spa, their background in a military and nursing family, and their craziest experiences on shift, including a surprise delivery and ingested magnets. D, Sarah, and Jenna chat stories from their days in school, including showing up late to class with Starbucks (we’ve all been there). They also talk about all things twin: they’re each other’s biggest cheerleaders and two sides of the same coin — but they’re not the same person and certainly do not have the same taste in guys! Speaking of boys, the three quickly bond over their love for Tayshia as Bachelorette and we learn that the twins are working to be nurse practitioners. Good lucky ladies!!

    From Nanoparticles to NICU Babies with Dr. Kate, MD Nov 16, 2020

    Creativity on a Molecular Level with Devon Pawley Nov 02, 2020

Devon is a PhD candidate in biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Miami who is developing point of care diagnostics for remote communities to manage disease spread. Devon goes into what it's been like creating diagnostic technologies for COVID, the contrast between academia and industry when comes to her research area, and breaks down the difference between biochemistry versus molecular biology and what is so dang cool about them! She also shares with D how she ended up in her field, the importance of introducing science to girls early on, and what's next for her after graduation.
