WoMed Reunion with New Mama Danielle LeVeck, DNP, ACNP/CNS Nov 01, 2021
    Show notes

Offering an honest conversation about new motherhood, former WoMed co-host Danielle LeVeck joins D and Jackie to talk about everything she’s experiencing, from the pain to the exhaustion and all that's in between. She discusses breastfeeding, induced labor, c-sections, and vaginal labor, and the feelings and fear that come along with each. Dani gets honest about judging other parents as well as the reality of having to help one another and extend support until there is systemic change that better supports new parents in the workplace. The three then discuss maternity and paternity leave, what needs to change there, and how Dani feels about going back to work. Dani also opens up about what she didn’t expect about motherhood and the ways in which her practice may change as a result. The 4th trimester is often suffered in silence, and this episode pulls back the curtain as we get to catch up with Dani and her sweet baby boy - the first official male guest on The WoMed!

Wildlife Conservation and Vets on the Front-Lines with Dog-tor Kristi Crow, DVM Oct 18, 2021
    Show notes

If you’re looking for a great dog-tor, Kristi Crow is it! Kristi joins your co-hosts this week to advocate for vets. Vets, the silent healthcare profession, are on the frontlines of food security, public health, wildlife conservation, general practice, and wellness. Kristi discusses the differences between studying animal medicine and human medicine, her decision to go into general practice, and how to apply to vet school. She offers insight into what public health means in terms of animals and tells your co-hosts about the incredible conservation work she has done and the travel that she loves so much. She also sheds light on the importance of mental health for veterinarians as she discusses the harassment she’s suffered on the front-lines. Vets have taken care of the pets that have taken care of us throughout this pandemic, and we owe them just as much respect as we give other healthcare workers!

Population Health and Implicit Biases with Jessica Dudley RN, DNP Oct 11, 2021
    Show notes

One of Jackie’s friends from nursing school, Jessica Dudley RN, DNP joins your co-hosts on the mic to discuss population health, Black mortality rates in childbirth, vaccine hesitancy, and the need for education around implicit biases in healthcare. A true trailblazer in her field, Jessica authors a blog (and soon to be podcast) called The Soul Experiment, which started from the recognition that her thoughts on social justice don’t necessarily align with where she came from, and wondering what that means for those relationships. She became a nurse because she wanted todisrupt and reform the system of inequality within healthcare. She now wants to become a midwife, establish a Black birthing center, and a clinic for minorities to receive care. Jessica believes there should be a standardized level of care for every person in the United States, no matter what you look like or which state you come from.

To keep up with Jessica, follow @jess__beecause and thesoulexperiment.blog and keep an eye out for The Soul Experiment podcast.

A Medical Mystery & Patient Advocacy with Mackenzie Kimes, MSN, RN, CPN Mar 22, 2021
    Show notes

This week on the WoMed we take a journey with Mackenzie Kimes, certified pediatric nurse and nurse educator. While we touch on her admirable career, this episode largely focuses on her harrowing journey as a pediatric patient, trying desperately to get answers to complicated health problems. Ultimately, her journey made her the nurse she is today, committed to paying forward the same kindness she received and educating others to prevent the kind of dismissal she experienced from doctors who said it was all in her head. Mackenzie is passionate about nursing education as she works to empower the next generation of healthcare workers to provide effective patient care. In this inspiring episode, we also learn how she continues to use her voice to educate people on how to advocate best for themselves.
