In this episode of The UnNoticed Entrepreneur, Jim James interviews Karen Tan, the founder and CEO of The Projector, an independent cinema and arts and cultural space in Singapore. Karen shares how The Projector was created to provide a mental breathing space where people can engage with interesting content and break out of their silos. The space shows alternative film content, hosts non-film content, and invites different interest groups to feel comfortable sharing the same space. Karen also shares how The Projector started, which was a crucial piece of the puzzle in getting noticed and on the radar.
Karen provides some tips on how to create a community-led business to get an entrepreneur and a business noticed. She emphasises the importance of getting the neighbourhood behind the business before opening the doors and screening films. In The Projector’s case, they used crowdfunding as a marketing tool to bring like-minded people together, raise money, and build project ownership. She encourages entrepreneurs to fill a void in the landscape and make their business community-led to attract a loyal following. By doing so, people feel invested in the success of the business, and it becomes a community effort.

This week Simon Chappuzeau works with me on building my LinkedIn profile followers and shares some ways on how to do so.
Since we started this 12 week safari I have reduced my posting from 4-6 per day down to 1 per day.
I have increased my followers from 10,850 to 11,167
But most importantly my engagement rate has increased by 100%
In other words I am spending much less time posting and getting better results.
What we look at today- is where the time should go. And that is on content creation instead of content dumping.

Why mental health could be your last remaining asset, with serial entrepreneur Paul Meyers in Singapore. Apr 13, 2023
    Show notes

    Get Noticed! Send a text.

In this episode, Jim James speaks with Paul Meyers, a coach, mentor, VC, and investor with 20 years of experience in the startup industry. Meyers highlights that the media portrays founding a startup as something glamorous and successful, but in reality, it's emotional and can lead to mental health problems for founders. Meyers suggests normalizing discussions around mental health and creating safe spaces for founders to talk about their fears and challenges.
Meyers also discusses why males are less likely to approach mental health coaches than females, due to societal expectations of appearing strong and competent. He notes that the stress of being a founder can lead to unhealthy behaviors and a loss of empathy. Meyers suggests that displaying empathy and normalizing conversations around mental health can help founders recognize the symptoms of stress and address them before it becomes too late.

Do you need to be a lion or a squirrel to overcome public speaking fear? With Ed Darling Apr 06, 2023
    Show notes

    Get Noticed! Send a text.

In this episode, Jim James interviews Ed Darling, founder of Project Charisma, a Manchester-based training company that helps professionals overcome public speaking fears and communicate with credibility, confidence, and charisma. Ed shares how he overcame social anxiety and turned his biggest fears into a profession in acting and public speaking.
Ed emphasises that public speaking is a skill and with practise, anyone can improve. He starts by teaching clients the importance of breathing, focusing on diaphragmatic breathing to activate the "rest and digest" response and calm the nervous system. Ed then discusses the three components of public speaking: body, voice, and mind. Using animal analogies, Ed describes the difference between squirrel and lion body language, emphasising the importance of taking up space, being purposeful, and being confident when speaking in front of an audience.
Ed also shares practical tips and insights on how to improve public speaking skills and overcome anxiety, making this episode valuable for entrepreneurs looking to improve their communication skills and getting noticed.
