Episode No. 52 Act Like Oprah Until You Become Oprah Apr 28, 2019
    Show notes

When I first started No Real Jewelry back in 2015 I had a good, maybe 200 monthly readers, tops. If you haven't guessed it by now that's pretty small. I ain't gonna lie I was tempted to throw in the whole towel because ya girl's ego was fragile. I mean being a beginner sucks sometimes right? You work so hard and have all these cool ideas only for 3 people to read it. Yikes!Well, luckily enough I shook my defeatist feels off and tapped into a mindset shift that has since helped me stay in the creative entrepreneurial game for nearly 4 years. Want to know my secret? Well, it might sound a little silly, but I acted liked Oprah. You see, Oprah runs a magazine (amongst other things, duh) and my thought was-- "Hmm the blog is like an online magazine so why not run like it already has a million readers and paid sponsorships up the wahzoo?" 🤯 #MindBlownI thought to myself; "Jessica why don't you treat this bad baby like you're already speaking on panels and hosting workshops. Why don't you hustle like NRJ is already one of the top online hubs for women's wellness and inspiration?"And so I did just that. My little blog that only had 200 monthly readers was being handled like it was already Essence or Vogue. I didn't wait until I had a million readers to boss up. I got my Oprah on when I had NOTHING.I'd wake up early and get dressed like I was running a multi-million dollar media group. I'd show up and be super consistent because I acted like I had 2 million readers counting on me. That "acting like Oprah until I become Oprah" has been the very mindset shift that has helped me put my blinders on and stay consistent whether my number was popping or not. It's helped me build up the confidence to approach big brands I had no business approaching and secure paid brand sponsorships. It's honestly the thing that has kept me going, PERIODT! 💅🏽So in today's episode, we're going to be talking about how to show up as the woman that already has the very thing you've been working so hard for. And how that can help you stay consistent in your goal chase, raise a standard of excellence in your work and help attract amazing opportunities your way.Check out Episode No. 52 Act Like Your Oprah Until You Become OprahResources Mentioned In Today's EpisodeThis post contains affiliate links. Show notes

[Tweet "Being consistent requires that you honor the commitment that you made to your goals every chance you get."]Wouldn't it be nice if you had a trust fund? One where you could just take out a few hundred thousand dollars and start that dream business of yours? Or how about having THE Michelle Obama mentor you as you navigate securing a boo, a bag, and a megastar career? You'd like that huh? Exclusive networks, access to hella money and an ivy league degree can absolutely set you up for success. Ain't no doubt about that. But what if you don't have access to all of that? How can you dream big and make ish happen when you don't have a ton of money, or a dream mentor guiding you or the right training, equipment, followers, supplies, etc?Well, my dear today I'm letting you in on a little secret. One way to usher success into your life is to show up, work hard for what you want and be consistent. I am living proof! I wouldn't be where I am in my career if consistency wasn't my BFF.And it isn't just me. Look at some of your faves. Beyonce didn't become Beyonce overnight. She put in the work for YEARS before she became a household name. Think of Issa Rae, before she had a hit show on HBO she had a regular old YouTube channel that caught the attention of network execs. Why? Well because she did the work consistently for years and that work landed her, her dream. That girl you admire on IG with a million followers and a ton of brand partnerships-- yeah she's there because she kept doing the work day in and day out.So in today's episode, we're going to take a deep dive into how to develop + strengthen your consistency muscles. I can't believe that we made it to 50 episodes of The Sunday Jumpstart Podcast! You see when I started the podcast I was scared out of mind. I didn't know the first thing about podcasting or editing. I didn't have a ton of followers so I was afraid that no one would listen. It took me an entire YEAR to hit publish on Episode No. 1 because I was filled to the brim with self-doubt.I don't know how but eventually I pushed past all of the fear and I just launched. It was messy, scary and I felt like a complete idiot but I did it. Episode No. 1 aired on Dec. 3, 2017, and 163 people actually listened to it. I was shocked! 🤯Lol! I thought that I might get a good ten listeners but God proved otherwise. Fast forward to today and we are 50 whole episodes deep with nearly 20,000 downloads on iTunes. Crazy right?!Now I don't post those numbers to stunt. No way Jose. I posted them to show the magic of-- Starting The Thing! That podcast. That blog. That side hustle. That book. Start it now. It doesn't have to be perfect. Just do it. I know it's scary + you may feel like you don't have the right tools, money, education or whatever, but you do. It's already inside of you and I am living PROOF. If I can turn a small dream that terrified the living daylights out of me into reality, guess what? You can too! So in today's episode, we're talking about pushing past the fears and leaping towards the dreams that God has placed in our hearts! Now I couldn't have made it to 50 episodes with your help! Episode No. 49 How To Decide If A New Opportunity Is Right For You Apr 07, 2019
    Show notes

[Tweet ""What we most fear is usually what we need to do the most" Tim Ferriss"] One day you're just minding your business and then BAM! You get approached with an opportunity you didn't see coming. You're flattered and it piques your interests, but something about it makes you a little hesitant. Maybe the salary that they're offering doesn't quite match the number you had in your head. Or that new dream job requires you to pack up, move away from your loved ones and relocate across the country. So what do you do? How do you decide if an opportunity is a no-go or a hecky yeah? How do you know whether or not that the hesitation you feel is just your inner critic trying to make sure you stay nice and comfortable in your comfort zone or the fears you're feeling are valid concerns that need some careful thought and consideration? Welp, today on The Sunday Jumpstart Podcast I'm sharing some tips that will help you determine whether or not you should take the leap of faith and say yes or listen to your gut and run for the hills. If you've been stuck and need help making a tough decision then today's episode is for you! Resources Mentioned In Today's Episode:This post contains affiliate links. [Tweet ""Nothing happens by accident when you are intentional" @themattiejames"]For the past few months, I've been seeing the word "intention" everywhere. In books, on podcasts and even Instagram memes. So I dug a little deeper. What was the big deal about intentionality? Episode No. 46 The Do’s + Dont’s Of Pitching Yourself For Collabs & Partnerships Mar 17, 2019
    Show notes

Y'all my inbox has been popping lately! I've been receiving a ton of pitches from some of the dopest side hustlers, entrepreneurs and content creators that want to partner up for a collab. Whether they want to be a guest on The Sunday Jumpstart Podcast to share their story with listeners. Or Makers that want me to review their product on the blog--it's pitching season baby and I am here for it!Here's the thing though, only a very small percentage of the pitches I get actually win + land the collab. Why? Well, I hate to say it but the majority of the pitches that slide into my inbox are on the whomp whomp side. Most people miss out on opportunities simply because they don't know the do's and don'ts of pitching. And I totally get it, it took me a while to understand the science of pitching before I landed my first few brand partnerships and collabs with some of my favorite content creators! So today we're going to break down how to pitch so that you can score big the next time you decide to slide into someone's inbox! Topics Discussed In Today’s Episode: Social Media Dm's -Vs- Email Inbox: Which one should you slide into? Brand alignment: how to make sure your brands align before reaching out for a collab or partnership. The things you MUST have in your pitch email (clickable links, example or your work, etc) Why you shouldn't reach out until you've done all of your homework! Why keeping it super short + sweet can help you land the collab + and so much more!Resources Mentioned In Today's Episode:Cliquish This Week's Listener Win is from Candace Evans @cme_edutainLiked today’s episode?
