DeFi By Design EP43: The Next DeFi Boom: JavaScript Development with Agoric Jul 29, 2021

Show notes

If you’re a crypto native you know how the game works by now. We saw Bitcoin and Ethereum spark an initial wave of innovation. Now, DeFi is leveraging these early blockchains to unlock nascent markets with additional tools.

Baked into these early blockchains are certain ecosystem standards. Agoric is breaking these standards to bring a blockchain with a coding language familiar to traditional programmers.

This episode of DeFi by Design is FULL of alpha for traders, developers, novices, and experts.

Check out the convo below between Andy, Rob, and Dean Tribble from the Agoric network.

DeFi By Design EP42: Oh! Finance! The Lightbulb Moment in DeFi Jul 22, 2021

Show notes

Navigating DeFi is increasingly difficult as the ecosystem evolves with more complex products.

Advanced AMM tech, scalable smart contracts - all that’s great but it gets overwhelming for a newcomer.

OH! Finance takes all the best parts of DeFi (high yield, verifiable liquidity) and bundles them into 1 universal button for easy access. This all-in-one DeFi platform makes crypto digestible for the passive crypto enthusiast.

DeFi By Design EP41: Merging Centralized and Decentralized Liquidity w/ CCAI Jul 15, 2021

Show notes

It’s middle of the Summer and no doubt cryptocurrencies are starting to heat up again. NFT’s are continuing their blazing pace, and Layer 2 networks are anticipated to make a splash towards the end of this month.

The transition from Centralized Finance (CeFi) to Decentralized Finance (DeFi) sometimes looks like a revolution. We picture the flow into DeFi as a peaceful transfer of capital simply following the best incentives.

CC.AI is one the projects making this transition as easy and efficient as possible. Cryptocurrencies Actionable Insights has combined CeFi and DeFi under one roof to provide an enjoyable and familiar approach to trading assets. Their blend of orderbook & DEX offerings creates a venue for tapping into combined CeFi and DeFi liquidity. Hear the whole story from Hisham in this episode of DeFi by Design.

DeFi By Design EP40: Uniting Content Creators in DeFi w Kris Kay Jul 07, 2021

Show notes

A major part of the ethos in DeFi is Collaboration over Competition. As the native DeFi protocols grow more and more complex, collaboration amongst founding teams, educators, and users becomes increasingly more important.

It is from this collaborative intuition that we have seen some teams grow into flourishing communities with massive TVL, while other teams remain isolated in their niche. Although projects take a different approach, the intention is consistent across these communities - grow the ecosystem, add value, and onboard the masses.

Today we talk to Kris Kay, aka DeFi Donut, who is firmly positioned as a prominent educational content creator in the DeFi space. There is tons to cover in DeFi and us content creators are just scratching the surface. In this one, Kris and the Slate team cover the DeFi content that is most in-demand and analyze how content is most digestible and entertaining while helping to grow your stack.

Check out DeFi Donut's channel for demo videos and more on his DeFi journey.

DeFi By Design EP39: The Power of DeFi in Unbanked Countries w/ Akin Sawyer Jul 01, 2021

Show notes

This might be hard to believe… but we are still early.

Bitcoin has taken on the role of Digital Hard Money, however Ethereum has the potential to tap into the gigantic structured product layer of Traditional Finance.

The Perp Fi team is bridging the transfer of wealth between Traditional Finance and DeFi. Its no secret — the derivatives market far outweighs the volume of capital stored in hard money. Just take a look at the recent surge in M1 and M2 while the hard money like Gold and Silver remain relatively flat. A similar trend is starting to prevail in the crypto denominations of hard money.

Perp Fi brings an on-chain basket of tools to those looking for creative ways to leverage capital. The team here blends unique perspectives of financial engineering and blockchain development.

DeFi By Design EP37: Community Investing for Passive Crypto Enthusiasts Jun 17, 2021

Show notes

One of the long anticipated community led applications is hitting the Ethereum mainnet. Babylon is a protocol by the people and for the people.

With Web3 solving for self-custody, community investing has quickly become one of the primary use cases of DeFi. dHEDGE, Enzyme, and now Babylon are each tackling community investing with a different approach.

Babylon's community offer is unique in that individuals are rewarded for creating profitable strategies. Unlike other decentralized asset management protocols, investors use strategies directly rather than pooling funds with other investors under one manager. Anyone can create a strategy, and anyone can engage.

It's been a great week coming off Bitcoin Miami.

The world is rallying around El Salvador as they become the first country to certify Bitcoin as legal tender. We are seeing steps towards global acceptance of the evolving digital economy. While the world watches Bitcoin surge in political approval, Ethereum continues to power a whirlwind of DeFi innovation. Eyes on Bitcoin means Ethereum is in build mode.

In this pod, we talk to a team of mega builders crushing it in the DeFi space. Liquity has racked up over 3 billion in TVL in just a few months. The protocol pays interest on liquid Ethereum so you can earn yield, keep exposure to ETH, and retain custody of your assets. DeFi By Design EP35: The Bullish DeFi Thesis with George Harrap Jun 03, 2021

Show notes

Despite the wicked upgrades coming to Ethereum's mainchain, DeFi is a multichain world.Polygon and Binance Chain have shown that liquidity mining incentives and cheaper Tx fees are a formula for large inflows of liquidity.

In this Episode we go through the thesis for a multichain approach to DeFi. George is Head of DeFi at YAP Global and founder of Step Finance on Solana. George is a true OG and has continued to evolve with the tech as the traditional financial system becomes digital. The composability between layers of the digital economy is impressive to say the least. Don't stay by the wayside as the future of finance unravels before us. Listen below to hear how you can extract value from a multichain world.

DeFi By Design EP34: How Argent Mobile Wallet Will 10x User Growth May 27, 2021

Show notes

Its been a rollercoaster week. Clearly, there has been some market turbulence but what remains - believers are unbothered.

DeFi is largely a bundle of web applications that are difficult to use in the first place and even more difficult on mobile phones. Argent is looking to change that.

Argent is a smart contract mobile wallet providing self-custody for millions of dollars in crypto holdings. We’re taking DeFi global, y’all!

Argent has a fascinating design of trusted wallets that resembles beneficiaries in traditional custody services. Check out the podcast for insights into mobile smart contract wallets, and what this means for security and scalability.
