Ep 135: Embracing Discomfort: The Path to Personal Growth Jul 16, 2023
    Show notes

What if the key to success and growth lies in the discomfort we often avoid? Buckle up as we challenge the notion of a 'good life' and explore the powerful impact discomfort can have on personal development. With my background as a brand strategist, entrepreneur, and life coach, I break down the two types of discomfort: the one stemming from challenging ourselves and the one from avoiding tough decisions. Interestingly, we may perceive our life as good while remaining in our comfort zone, but a closer look might reveal that we're stuck in a rut.
Drawing from my journey of relocating to 14 cities for my career, I shed light on the consumption behaviors we often use as coping mechanisms, such as overeating or drinking. The truth is, hiding from the pain of creating a new life can seem enticing, but it's not necessarily the path to fulfillment. Shifting gears, we discuss how actually embracing discomfort can lead to personal growth. I serve up practical tips for widening your social circle and introduce a six-week challenge to break the status quo and try something new every week. So, are you ready to break free of the comfort zone and embrace discomfort on the road to personal growth? Let's start this journey together!

Ep 134: How to Know if Your Brand Narrative is Empowering You or Holding You Back Jul 09, 2023
    Show notes

Do you ever ponder over the person you present to the world? Ever wondered how your family, birth order, and even gender roles have subliminally crafted your personal brand? Prepare for an insightful discussion that will lead you into the labyrinth of your self-image and demonstrate how to seize control of your narrative, no matter your age.
We'll journey into the depths of our inner dialogue, a narrative often built and reinforced over time by our surroundings. This narrative holds a potent influence over us, from the choices we make to the opportunities we perceive as within our reach. However, this self-talk, a double-edged sword, can be manipulated to our advantage. As we dissect the construction of our self-image, we'll see ways to turn the words we tell ourselves into a tool for empowerment, particularly when faced with significant opportunities.
Lastly, we'll confront the elephant in the room - fear. This emotion often underpins our personal narrative, dictating our decisions and our actions. However, with understanding and knowledge, we can use fear as a catalyst for change. This episode will outline how fear can drive us to question our narratives, reassess our choices, and ultimately, forge a more empowering personal brand. If you're yearning to redefine your brand narrative and design a more fulfilling life, tune in and transform your perspective. For an even deeper dive, I invite you to join me for a masterclass later this month. Head over to my Instagram page, the purposeful career, for more details!

    Ep 128: Decision Fatigue May 28, 2023
    Show notes

Do you ever feel like your day is just crammed with hard things and you just can't make one more decision?
Like you've reached your daily limit for hard decisions and just don't have the energy or capacity to make one more?
    If so, I get it.
I never really heard of decision fatigue as a "thing" until a few weeks ago, but the second I did, I heard that inner ding.
And I realized the very real way this has played out for me over the years.
I didn't want to pick up the phone after work because I felt like it had rung nonstop during my work day.
I didn't want to decide what to do on the weekend or for vacation because it felt too hard to decide.
Sure, I took care of the things I had to take care of in my life. The necessities.
But for many years, I let some of the more enjoyable parts of life go unaddressed - like keeping up with friends via phone or email or making plans for vacays - because I was just too tired to have one more conversation.
Too tired to make one more decision or do one more thing, even if it was for something fun.
Depending on the content of your workday and the complexity or weight of the decisions you make everyday, it's perfectly normal to feel like your brain battery is depleted.
To feel like you need to recharge.
And when that happens, what you really need is to give yourself some time and space to recuperate and reenergize.
That'll the equivalent of plugging in your cellphone.
But avoiding things or telling yourself things are too hard or that you just can't (or won't) make any other decisions, probably isn't an approach that'll serve you well.
It just means you're letting important things go.
The truth is, life comes for us all.
    We've got work.
    We've got family.
    We've got friends.
We've got hard things to deal with.
So on this week's podcast episode, we're talking decision fatigue.
How it shows up and what to do about it.
Give it a listen. Then share it with a friend.
And then go plan that vacay, even if you're a little tired. Two months from now you will thank you for it. ;).

Ep 126: How to Stop a Negative Thought Loop May 14, 2023
    Show notes

Do you ever find yourself stuck in a negative thought loop?
Where you find yourself ruminating endlessly on the negative things that have either happened in your past or are happening now?
    If so, you're not alone.
It's how our human brain works.
Our brains are wired to detect threats.
That's the primitive part of our brain.
It wants to protect us. It wants us to survive.
And so, when something happens that our brain interprets as negative or potentially dangerous, it's going to trigger an instinctive response.
That response might be to run from the danger.
Or it might be to play out potential outcomes endlessly, each scenario maybe more catastrophic than the last.
Or it might be to endlessly ruminate on why it happened in the first place. Why us?
There's nothing about that endlessly running negative thought loop that's going to serve you.
    It's not empowering.
It's only going to keep you stuck. Right where you are. Focused on what's wrong with your life.
The truth is that in life, things are going to happen that we don't like.
And when that happens, the answer is not to let our default way of thinking take over.
The answer is to decide, proactively, how you want to deal with it.
In a way that is the most optimistic, the most powerful, the most productive.
And no matter what is happening for you right now, I can promise you that this is possible.
You can get yourself out of a negative thought spiral and into a place of mental and emotional neutrality so you can move forward.
So that you're creating the future you want from the broadest perspective of what's possible for you.
You can't do that when you're spinning in negativity.
You have to do an emotional reset.
And that's what we're talking on this episode.
It's an incredibly important and powerful practice.
    Give it a listen.
Then share it with a friend.
