Ep 005: How to Stay Calm and In Control During Times of Chaos Jan 30, 2021
    Show notes

Well, hello friends. I hope you had an AMAZING week.

Mine was SUPER productive. And I LOVE it when that happens.

And I’m not just talking about being productive in my business or work. I was.

But even better, I got a TON of stuff done around the house. You know, the kind of stuff that lingers. Things like going through boxes or closets and drawers. And deciding what to keep, toss or donate.

It always makes me feel amazing.

What’s interesting though is WHY I had that amazing burst of activity this week. And that’s what we’re going to talk about today, which is Control in Chaos.

    So, let’s dive in.

That burst of productivity that I experienced this week is a bit unusual. Well, THAT type of productivity anyway. Cleaning closets and organizing things isn’t really my favorite past time.

But what’s interesting is what inspired that particular burst of productivity.

Basically, you can blame cable news and 2021.

    Let me explain.

I’ve been a news junkie for like the past 20 years. I’ve always loved having it on in the background. I have my favorite news anchors and all of that.

I just liked staying up on things and I liked hearing different angles and opinions on the stories of the day.

    But for me, that’s changed.

Granted there are a lot of reasons for that, most of which I won’t go into on this podcast because there’s not time for it all.

But the main thing for me is the unrelenting news on the pandemic.

I’ve noticed that when I watch the news, my anxiety increases. I start to feel helpless and hopeless. And I go from being able to deal with the isolation and the uncertainty that this virus has brought into all of our lives, to barely hanging on.

    Why?

Some folks would say, “well, it’s because of the circumstances. There’s a pandemic going on.”

Others might say, “the news is just toxic and always negative.”

And I get that these explanations FEEL true.

    But they’re NOT true.

The truth is that what was causing me to feel helpless and hopeless is the thoughts I’m having about the coverage. Not the actual coverage itself.

So now, when I leave the news on too long, I start thinking: “Will my family be okay?” or “When will this virus EVER end?” and “What happens now that there are more contagious strains appearing? Will the vaccine work?”

When I’m thinking those thoughts, they cause me to feel “anxiety”, “uncertainty” and “sadness.”

And when I’m feeling anxious, uncertain, or sad, what do I do? Nothing productive. That’s for sure.

They make me want to numb out by binge watching Netflix or Hulu. Or having a brownie. Or a glass of wine.

    Can you relate?
Let's dive in and explore how to help you get control even during chaos.

Ep 004: How to Choose Your Self Concept vs. Accepting One That's Formed By Default Jan 24, 2021
    Show notes

In this episode, we talk about one of my favorite things, which is how we see ourselves.

Specifically, we discuss the importance of proactive choosing your self concept vs. just accepting how others view you.
And, how to go about doing that.

Have you ever really spent time thinking about how you think about yourself. Your self-concept?

So many of us don’t. Yet it's SO important when it comes to getting everything you want from your career and life.

Personally, I think that’s why we’re all on this never-ending quest for what’s next.
Why so few of us relish where we are or appreciate WHO we are in the moment – no matter the job we have, the partner we have, the things we have.

And why, no matter what we achieve or get, for too many of us, it’s never enough. Or never quite right.

If you can relate to this even a little, this episode is for you.

Because we’re going to explore why most of us accept the self-concept that is either assigned by others or shaped automatically by our brain as a response to what happens to us.

AND, we’re going to talk about self-concept as something that you can choose and how and why you should do that.
I call it the Self Blueprint. And here's how to think about this concept.

Most of us think about ourselves in the context of where we are in the moment. In our life. In our career.

So, if things are going well, we tend to feel good – or at least more positive - about ourselves and our prospects.

But if circumstances are more challenging, most times we feel less positive or optimist about who we are and what is possible for us.

And this is the challenge when our self-concept is shaped by factors outside of vs. one that we choose and believe because we know who we are NO. MATTER. WHAT.
We don't have to look outside ourselves to define who we are. We can proactively shape it through this Self Blueprint technique.

Ep 003: How to Know What you Want From Your Career and Life Jan 17, 2021
    Show notes

In this episode we look at Knowing What You Want. Or more specifically, why so many of us don't.
We take a look at how to identify that thing you want - ideally something that sits at the intersection of what you're good at, what you're passionate about and what you can make a living doing.
And we discuss why, even when we know what that thing is, we don't do it.
In my experience it typically comes down to three reasons:
    - Fear
    - Self Doubt
    - Judgement
And if we're not connected to it, we can let one or all of those things stop us from having a meaningful career.
Too many of us default into not allowing ourselves to know what we want.
Or if we know, not allowing ourselves to do it.
This is not the path that leads to a meaningful career.
It's a path that leads to drudgery, disappointment and resentment.
Listen to the episode to learn how you can avoid having those things get in your way. And how you can step into not only knowing what you want, but going after it with everything you've got.
I hope you enjoy this episode and get out there and make it happen for yourself in 2021!
    Until next week...

Ep 002: How to Set Goals with Conviction (So You Follow-Through) Jan 10, 2021
    Show notes

In this episode, we talk about how to goal set with conviction. Or, as I like to call it, your Mission Impossible.
Because believe it or not, it's that time of year again. The time for setting goals. For thinking of all the things we'd like to achieve this year.
The truth is, we NEED goals. We NEED a compelling vision to drive us forward. Even when circumstances might make those goals more difficult to achieve.
Having that vision, that passion, inspires us. And motivates us to do more, to keep going even when it might be challenging.
Even if we fall short of our desired goal, we'll have grown stronger because of it. We'll become a different person.
    In this podcast, we cover:
    - Why we call it Mission Impossible instead of goal-setting
    - Why we give up on goals and how not to do that this year
    - The advantage of having your one BIG Mission Impossible for the year
    - Where your feelings of self-doubt, fear and desire to quit come from
    - How to choose a thought that generates a feeling of fierce commitment
    - And so much more
I hope you enjoy it. If you do, hit SUBSCRIBE so you don't miss an episode. And, please leave us a review. We'd be so grateful.
    See you next week!
