    The People’s Court Podcast

    The honorable Judge Marilyn Milian presides over the four-time Emmy award winning “The People’s Court.” For more than two decades, Milian has dispensed justice and provided legal insight in the courtroom where justice and reality collide. And now, you can take the show on the go with “The People’s Court Podcast.”

    “The People’s Court Podcast” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Judge Milian. Running the gamut from disputes between neighbors and family members, to dissatisfied customers suing businesses, Milian’s decisions – based on current law – are final and binding.

    Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In the courtroom, Milian is joined by court officer Douglas McIntosh. Doug Llewelyn interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases.

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her father, who she says put her washer and dryer outside for her to pick up. She claims they were stolen by the time she got there and blames her dad for making a foolish decision. She’s suing him for the value of the appliances. The defendant says his daughter left them at his home for two years and he told her several times that she needed to come pick them up.

    Then, the plaintiffs say they hired the defendant to undercoat a truck as a Christmas gift. They claim they paid in cash, but he never did a thing, so they’re suing for their money back. The defendant says the plaintiffs are impatient and specialized jobs like this take time.

    Stealing from a Child? Sep 20, 2023
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says she’s known the defendant since she was 5, so she let him stay with her after he was kicked out of his home for substance abuse. She alleges he turned out to be a thief who stole her husband’s medication and her child’s iPhone, so she’s suing for the cost of the phone. The defendant denies stealing anything.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant was her landlord for 22 years, then out of the blue told her she had to move within 60 days with no explanation. She’s suing for her security deposit back. The defendant says the plaintiff constantly denied her access to the apartment. She claims she spent the deposit on all the repairs for two decades of damage. She’s countersuing for storage fees for belongings left behind.

    Squeezed Over an Accordion Sep 19, 2023

    The plaintiff says he bought an accordion from the defendant and was told it was in perfect working order. He claims he brought it to an expert when he got it home and found out wires were corroded, so he’s suing for a refund. The defendant says she was selling her grandfather’s accordion and that a wire was missing, but it still worked.

    Then, the plaintiff says he brought his car to the defendant to fix his air conditioning. He claims the defendant told him it was fixed, but it stopped working again almost immediately. He’s suing for a refund. The defendant says he replaced the air compressor and all was fine. Four weeks later, the 20-year-old car had a new leak, and he claims the plaintiff didn’t want to pay to have it fixed.

    Not Making the Cut Sep 18, 2023

    The plaintiff says she hired the defendants to design a prototype for a head wrap for styled hair. Once she hired them to mass produce them, however, she claims they destroyed the expensive fabric she had provided, so she’s suing. The defendants say they cut the fabric to the pattern and the plaintiff freaked out. They’re countersuing for slander and unpaid labor costs.

    Then, the plaintiff says he brought his expensive Cuban gold chain to the defendant to have a link repaired, but he claims the guy swapped it out for a cheaper chain. He says he was hoodwinked and is suing. The defendant says he’s been a reputable jeweler for 25 years, and claims the accusation is damaging his business.

    Torched Porsche Sep 15, 2023
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says he bought a Porsche from the defendant, but the guy’s place burned down before he could pick it up. The plaintiff claims the defendant never fixed the car like he promised to, so he’s suing. The defendant says the car was far from the fire and he had to wait for the all-clear from the fire department.

    Then, the plaintiff says he hired the defendant to install an aluminum roof over his patio. He claims the guy did a lousy job because it leaks when it rains, so he’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff is his ex-girlfriend’s cousin, and she had restraining order on him after he finished building the awning. He claims he told the plaintiff he’d send a friend over to do the repairs, but the offer was refused.

    Plus, the plaintiff says she bought furniture online from the defendant. She claims it was wrapped in moving blankets when she picked it up, so she didn’t discover it was damaged until she got it home. She claims she was duped and is suing for a refund. The defendant says the lightly used furniture was fine when she sold it.

    Vicious Texts from a So-Called Friend Sep 14, 2023

    The plaintiff says she and the defendant were close friends for 15 years until they moved in together. The plaintiff claims her ex-friend tossed out all her belongings and told her she enjoyed doing it. She’s suing for the value of the items. The defendant says the plaintiff was homeless and she let her move in rent-free for months, but then she left behind piles of junk. She’s countersuing for unpaid back rent.

    Then, the plaintiff says he was visiting a friend who lives on the defendant’s property when a broken gate damaged his car. He says the defendant promised to pay for the repairs but hasn’t, so he’s suing for the cost. The defendant says the plaintiff told him the repairs were only a few hundred dollars, plus he has no proof the gate caused the damage.

    Expensive Tow Sep 13, 2023

    The plaintiff says he towed a crashed car at the police department’s request, but now the defendant is refusing to pay the towing and storage fees. She also hasn’t picked up the car, so he’s suing her. The defendant says the plaintiff waited a week to inform her he had the car. She claims he’s a scammer and she owes nothing.

    Then, the plaintiff says he dropped off items for dry cleaning at the defendant’s store, but he accidentally left some jewelry in them. He says the defendant told him she put the items in her safe, but then said she gave his things away to another customer. He’s suing for the value of the missing jewelry. The defendant claims she found the jewelry on the floor and says no one called about it.

    Plus, the plaintiff says she hired the defendants to steam clean her home, but they backed their truck into her fence and knocked it over. She says they sent her a check for $100, but it cost $2,500 to fix, so she’s suing. The defendants say the fence was old and the plaintiff is trying to gouge them.

    All-Around Headache for Everyone Sep 12, 2023

    The plaintiff says the defendant took advantage of him and sold him a junker. He claims the defendant won’t repair the car or respect the warranty, so he’s suing for a refund. The defendant says the plaintiff failed to register the car, so that’s why it failed inspection.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant was her manager at a phone store. She says he accused her of stealing money from the cash deposit and fired her. She says she didn’t steal a thing and he had no right to deduct money from her, so she’s suing for back pay, plus pain and suffering. The defendant says he has video of the plaintiff near where the money was kept and claims she acted suspicious.

    The plaintiff says he’s the victim of a hit-and-run and claims the defendant is a menace to society. He says she hit his vehicle with a shopping cart, then hit the gas in her car and tried to run him over. He says he fell and hit his head and now his vision is affected, so he’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff is a nut. She says he slapped her and lied to the cops.

    Then, the plaintiff says he works at a big box store and became friends with the defendant when he came in as a customer. He claims the defendant asked him for money because his son was in jail, so he loaned him $1,000. They argued over politics, so he hasn’t been repaid and he’s suing. The defendant says he and the plaintiff had a business deal, and he’s filed a countersuit for services provided.

    Grieving or Greedy? Sep 08, 2023

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her deceased son’s fiancée, who won’t return his Harley-Davidson and Mustang to her. She’s suing the woman for the money she’s owed for the vehicles. The defendant says her fiancé was accidentally shot and killed. She claims she and her fiancé were together for 10 years and share a child, plus both vehicles are in her name. She says she also refuses to turn over his ashes or death certificate.

    Then. the plaintiff says his son attends Rutgers and rents a home from the defendant with six friends. He claims the defendant lied about spending money to clean the house and is taking advantage of the students. He’s suing to get their security deposit back. The defendant says he rents to college students and alleges they are messy. He claims the place was covered in garbage and beer cans, so he withheld money to cover the costs to clean it up.
