    The People’s Court Podcast

    The honorable Judge Marilyn Milian presides over the four-time Emmy award winning “The People’s Court.” For more than two decades, Milian has dispensed justice and provided legal insight in the courtroom where justice and reality collide. And now, you can take the show on the go with “The People’s Court Podcast.”

    “The People’s Court Podcast” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Judge Milian. Running the gamut from disputes between neighbors and family members, to dissatisfied customers suing businesses, Milian’s decisions – based on current law – are final and binding.

    Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In the courtroom, Milian is joined by court officer Douglas McIntosh. Doug Llewelyn interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases.

    Sofa, So Bad Aug 24, 2023
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says she sold her couch to the defendant, a co-worker, but the defendant never paid her. Not only that, they both got fired because of all the drama. She’s suing her former friend for all she’s out. The defendant says the plaintiff is impatient, since she changed the terms of the payment plan. She insists the plaintiff caused trouble at work by making all their business public. She’s countersuing for pain and suffering.

    Then, the plaintiff says she rented a house from the defendants, but they were intimidating and threatened her. She had to hire a lawyer after they illegally evicted her, and she’s suing for her deposit back. The defendants say the eviction was legal because she was running an illegal business, and they claim she left the place a mess.

    Plus, the plaintiff says she hired the defendant to move items into a storage unit, but he broke her wooden jewelry box. Now he refuses to discuss the matter, so she’s suing him for the cost. The defendant says the box was already broken and insists he doesn’t owe a thing.

    Runaway Cart Wreaks Havoc Aug 23, 2023
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says she was driving in the parking lot of her local mall when a runaway shopping cart slammed into her Cadillac. She claims the defendant was careless with the cart and won’t pay up. She’s suing for the cost of the repairs. The defendant claims the parking lot is defective, so she’s not at fault. She insists the plaintiff should go through the car insurance company for the repairs.

    Then, the plaintiffs say they went to the defendant’s agency to adopt a child since they couldn’t have their own. They say after they paid the fee, the discovered the babies were exposed to drugs. The adoption was ultimately denied, but the defendant refuses to give them a refund, so they’re suing. The defendant says she’s been in the nonprofit adoption field for 30 years and would not have taken the plaintiffs’ case if they had revealed one of them had a prior disqualifying issue.

    Plus, the plaintiff says the defendant was a good tenant of hers, so she’s baffled by his behavior when he moved out. She claims he split out of the blue and left a huge mess behind, so she’s suing. The defendant says everything was fine until the plaintiff put her daughter in charge and there was an altercation, so he moved out.

    Quarrel Over Pet Cremation Aug 22, 2023
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says he runs a pet cemetery and crematory. He claims that after he gave the defendant’s deceased pet a private cremation, the defendant ghosted him. He’s suing for the cremation fee. The defendant says he wanted to go to the crematorium, but the plaintiff refused. He claims he isn’t sure the ashes are from his dog.

    Then, the plaintiff says she hired the defendant to work on her house, but he never completed the job — even though she paid him in full. She’s suing him for a refund. The defendant says the only thing he didn’t finish was installing closet doors. He insists he did a good job.

    Plus, the plaintiffs says they put down a deposit on an apartment, but then the defendant turned around and said it was no longer available on the agreed-upon move-in date. They’re suing for a refund. The defendant says she was never paid in full, and she claims the plaintiffs were the ones who backed out.

    Sex Tape Lawsuit Aug 18, 2023

    The plaintiff says she met the defendant when they had a one-night stand. She claims the defendant made a sex tape and uploaded it onto a porn site, so she’s suing for damages. The defendant says they never had sex, never recorded it, and never posted it. He’s countersuing for emotional distress.

    Then, the plaintiffs rented a house from the defendant. They claim the house wasn’t ready on time and that the defendant was renting it to someone else at the same time. They’re suing for a security deposit and cost of a hotel stay. The defendant is countersuing for one month’s rent.

    Getting the Grant Aug 17, 2023
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her ex-husband. She claims she received a grant to go to nursing school, but the money got put on her ex’s credit card. She accuses him of stealing the money, and she’s suing. The defendant says the money was a refund onto his credit card. He claims he paid her some of the grant but refused to give her the rest because she spent a lot of money before their divorce.

    Then, the plaintiff says he saw the defendant crash into his car and drive away. He’s suing because the defendant told the insurance company she doesn’t even drive the car that hit the plaintiff’s vehicle. The defendant admits she was in the area when the car accident occurred but says that wasn’t her vehicle.

    Plus, the plaintiff returned home from a week away and discovered her apartment had water damage. She says her upstairs neighbor’s toilet leaked, which caused extensive damage in the plaintiff’s residence. She’s suing for repairs to her apartment. The defendant says his contractor was half the price of what the plaintiff is asking for in repairs.

    Seeking Justice for a Beloved Pet Aug 16, 2023
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says the defendant is a menace to society. She claims the defendant sped through a stop sign as she walked her beloved dogs on leash, hitting them and breaking one of her dog’s necks, which killed him. Not only that, she says, the plaintiff then fled the scene. She’s suing for her dog’s cremation and purchasing another dog. The defendant admits she hit the dog but says she fled because of an angry mob. She’s countersuing for harassment.

    Then, the plaintiffs say they bought a truck from the defendant for their delivery business, but it broke down less than a mile after they pulled out of the lot. They’re suing to get their down payment back. The defendant claims they’re having buyer’s remorse, and he’s not returning a dime.

    Plus, the plaintiff says he hired the defendant, a contractor, to do some work on his house after a flood. He claims the defendant did shoddy work and he was forced to hire someone else to fix it. He’s suing for the money he spent. The defendant claims he did the work and the plaintiff stiffed him, so he’s suing for money still owed.

    Turning the Wheels of Rough Justice Aug 15, 2023

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her ex-boyfriend and the father of her young son. They bought a car together and he kept it after they split, so she’s suing him for the money she put down on the purchase. The defendant says he traded in his van for the car and says the plaintiff owes him money from their tax return, so they’re even.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant is his ex-girlfriend. He’s suing her because he claims she owes him money for the engagement ring he bought her, which she refuses to return. The defendant says she moved in with the plaintiff not long after his wife of 35 years died. She claims the ring was a gift and wasn’t a proposal.

    Plus, the plaintiff says she was making a U-turn in front of her house when the defendants failed to stop and rammed her with their truck. She claims they were driving with expired insurance, so she’s suing them for the cost of the car repairs. The defendants claim the plaintiff pulled into the road without looking and say she was the careless one.

    Gambling Away the Future Aug 14, 2023
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her ex-husband, and she loaned him some money when he hit a rough patch. She claims he ignored her when she asked him to repay it — because it turns out he lost $50,000 gambling. She’s suing to be reimbursed. The defendant says his ex-wife never loaned him money and claims she’s just there because the courts cut off child support.

    Then, the plaintiff says she rented her rustic cottage to the defendant, who she claims lit fireworks that melted plastic pipes in her yard. The damage caused a leak, so she had to hire a plumber. When she confronted the defendant about the bill, she stopped payment on the rental and wrote a scathing online review. She’s suing for the rent and repairs. The defendant denies damaging anything. She says the home wasn’t clean and did not match the ad description, so she stopped payment.

    Plus, the plaintiff says he bought his first car from the defendant, but he claims the man unloaded a pile of junk on him. He says the car needs a new transmission and other major repairs, but the defendant told him to take a hike, so he’s suing for a refund. The defendant says the plaintiff had the car for a week before complaining and denies there was anything wrong with the vehicle when he sold it.

    Damaged Dwelling Aug 11, 2023
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says the defendant was her landlady, who she claims vindictively kicked her out and even lunged at her when she moved out after 13 years. She says the defendant won’t return her security deposit, so she’s suing. The defendant says she took the plaintiff to housing court to evict her, and she had to be forcibly removed after destroying the house.

    Then, the plaintiff says she brought her phone to the defendant to repair a cracked screen, but it didn’t fit right. She says the defendant told her the phone was bent. When she asked for a refund, he told her he would charge a 30 percent “restocking fee,” so she’s suing. The defendant says he did what he could with the damaged phone and claims he offered to install a new frame, but the plaintiff refused.

    Plus, The plaintiff says he was holding a friend’s small dog in his arms when he was attacked by the defendants’ large dog. He claims he had to fight him off for a few minutes and ended up with medical expenses as a result. He’s suing for hospital bills and lost wages. The defendants claim their dog bit the little dog but not the plaintiff, who they say refused medical care at the time.

    Wedding Limo Disaster Aug 10, 2023
    Show notes

    The plaintiffs say they hired the defendant’s company to provide a limo on their wedding day, but the driver didn’t show up on time. They had to pile into the pastor’s van and were extremely late to their own reception. They’re suing for all they’re out. The defendant admits his driver was late and says he already refunded the plaintiffs’ money. He says he was even going to add another $1,000, but then they began threatening to ruin his reputation on social media.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant is her uncle, who she says agreed to take over payments on a car in her name. She says he stopped paying after he took possession of the car, so she had to fork over the money and cover the storage. She’s suing for the money she’s owed. The defendant say the car was in poor condition, needed repairs, and was a month behind in payments, so he denies owing anything.

    Plus, the plaintiff says the defendant collected child-support payments and pocketed them even though the child in question was in jail. He claims he was scammed, so he’s suing for the money back. The defendant says the plaintiff is a liar and a horrible man, and she says the court ordered him to make the payments.
