    The People’s Court Podcast

    The honorable Judge Marilyn Milian presides over the four-time Emmy award winning “The People’s Court.” For more than two decades, Milian has dispensed justice and provided legal insight in the courtroom where justice and reality collide. And now, you can take the show on the go with “The People’s Court Podcast.”

    “The People’s Court Podcast” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Judge Milian. Running the gamut from disputes between neighbors and family members, to dissatisfied customers suing businesses, Milian’s decisions – based on current law – are final and binding.

    Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In the courtroom, Milian is joined by court officer Douglas McIntosh. Doug Llewelyn interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases.

    Show notes

    The plaintiff says she went to the defendant for a special hairdo right before her birthday, but it ended up such a mess that she had to wear a scarf over it. She’s suing for the cost of the hairdo, plus pain and suffering. The defendant says the plaintiff was picky, indecisive, and impossible to please.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant hired her as a subcontractor for some stucco work, but she wasn’t paid the full amount owed. She says her word is her bond and she did an excellent job, so she’s suing for the outstanding bill. The defendant says the work was shoddy and she ended up having to hire someone else to fix it. She’s countersuing for all she’s out.

    Plus, the plaintiff says the defendant is her nasty neighbor, who she claims trespassed and butchered a tree she had planted on her property in honor of her dad, so she’s suing. The defendant claims the tree was on the property line and was overgrown. He says when the plaintiff refused to trim it, he took matters into his own hands.

    Stiffed by a Sibling Aug 08, 2023

    The plaintiff says the defendant is his younger brother. He claims he loaned him money when he fell on hard times, but he got stiffed. He’s suing his sibling to get paid back. The defendant says he makes plenty of money and denies ever taking a loan from his brother. He’s countersuing for lost wages.

    Then, the plaintiff claims he went to work for a family friend at his air-conditioning company, but the guy is refusing to pay him, so he’s suing the defendant for past wages and late fees. The defendant says he tried to help the man out, but claims the plaintiff was a problem from the start.

    Plus, when the plaintiff brought her truck to the defendant to repair, she says he sat on the job for a year. She claims he thinks she’s a little old lady he can scam, but she’s suing for money he owes her. The defendant says he loaned the plaintiff a car for a year while he looked for a new engine, but she cursed him out constantly. He says he owes nothing.

    ‘It’s Over’ Aug 07, 2023

    The plaintiff says the defendant is her daughter. She claims the defendant and her boyfriend stole her mail, owe her money, and refuse to pay it back, so she’s forced to sue. The defendants say the plaintiff removed things from the home and kicked them out onto the street. They’re countersuing for their ruined belongings.

    Then, the plaintiff is an architect, and he claims the defendant cut off communication after hiring him to design a gate and wall. He’s suing for the outstanding fees. The defendant claims the plaintiff kept trying to upsell him with complicated drawings and add-ons. He refuses to pay extra.

    Plus, the plaintiff claims the defendant hit his car and promised to pay for repairs without going through insurance. He says the defendant is now ducking him, so he’s suing for the cost of fixing the vehicle. The defendant says the plaintiff was at fault and claims the damage was minimal.

    Dashing with the Cash Aug 04, 2023

    The plaintiff says she hired the defendant, an event planner, to organize a birthday bash and fundraiser for a daycare playground. She claims the party was a mess and says the defendant stole cash donations, so she’s suing for the money. The defendant denies taking any money, and she’s countersuing for unpaid party-planning fees.

    Then, the plaintiff says he shares a property line with the defendant, who he claims no one likes. The plaintiff says he was forced to pay the entire fee to remove a tree on the property line, and he’s suing for reimbursement and fines. The defendant says the plaintiff’s tree leans on his garage, and the plaintiff intentionally cut the bark off the tree so it would die. He’s filed a countersuit for garage repair and harassment.

    Plus, the plaintiff says she bought a car from the defendant, but it stopped dead in the middle of the highway. She claims she’s out $4,000 in repairs and says the defendant knew the vehicle was faulty. She’s suing for repair costs, loaner cars, and missed work. The defendant says they went on a test drive after the car stopped and it worked perfectly, and they also performed repairs.

    Off-Key Transaction Aug 03, 2023

    The plaintiff says she gave her expensive piano to the defendant to sell on consignment. She claims that not only did he not tell her he sold it, but he also never paid her, so she’s suing him. The defendant says the piano market is bad. He claims he sent the plaintiff a good-faith payment when someone wanted to buy her piano, but they backed out.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant shattered her sliding glass door when he was doing some landscaping on the premises, but he refuses to pay for the repair. He’s giving her the runaround, so she’s suing for the cost. The defendant says he doesn’t know how it happened, and he offered to replace the glass. Now the plaintiff wants a whole new door.

    Plus, the plaintiff says a ceiling leak destroyed his big-screen smart TV, but he claims his landlord — the defendant — denies any responsibility. He’s suing him for the value of the TV. The defendant’s legal counsel says the TV is seven years old and isn’t worth anything. The defendant has filed a countersuit for malicious prosecution.

    Disgusting Counteroffer Aug 02, 2023

    The plaintiff claims she gave the defendant a refundable deposit on an apartment she was interested in renting. She says he refused to return her money unless she had sex with him, so she reported him to the police. She’s suing to get her deposit back. The defendant claims the plaintiff knew she was signing a lease, so he’s countersuing for lost rent.

    Then, after the plaintiff says she paid the defendant to train her dog, she changed her mind and asked for a refund. She claims he was rude and hung up on her. The defendant says the plaintiff’s dog was unruly, and he claims he trained her dog for two hours. He says deposits are non-refundable.

    Plus, the plaintiff claims she purchased a car from the defendant, but he turned around and sold it to someone else. She says he won’t return her money, so she’s suing to get the cash back. The defendant claims he held the car for the plaintiff for six months as she tried to pay it off, but he sold it when she stopped making payments.

    Invasion of Privacy Aug 01, 2023

    The plaintiff says he rented a home to the defendants, but claims they neglected the house and didn’t pay their rent, so he’s suing. The defendants claim the house was already in disrepair when they moved in. They say the plaintiff was so rude that they had to call the police.

    Then, the plaintiff says she was hired to change the main mast rigging on the defendant’s sailboat. She claims he never paid her, so she’s suing for the money she’s owed. The defendant claims he was restoring the boat for charity and says the plaintiff volunteered her time and would only charge for parts.

    Plus, the plaintiff says she bought a used car from the defendant’s business. She claims it failed an inspection and never should have been sold in that shape, so she’s suing for the cost of repairs. The defendant insists he’s a reputable dealer and claims the car passed inspection before he sold it.

She claims the defendant ignored her calls, so she had to pay someone else to fix the deck. She’s suing for the cost of repairs. The defendant insists that the plaintiff is confusing him with someone else and says he’s not the one who built the patio.

    Then, the plaintiff says he rented a room from the defendant, but the landlord won’t return the security deposit. He claims the defendant told him it’s because he let the landlord’s dog out. He’s suing to get the money back. The defendant claims the plaintiff was loud and disruptive, and says the other tenants complained about him.

    Plus, the plaintiff says the defendant is her neighbor. She claims his two dogs attacked her and badly injured her dog, so she’s suing for the cost of medical and veterinary expenses. The defendant claims the plaintiff’s dog is vicious and attacked his dogs. He says it’s the plaintiff’s fault because both his dogs were leashed, while hers wasn’t. He is countersuing for pain and suffering.

He’s countersuing for lost wages.
