    The People’s Court Podcast

    The honorable Judge Marilyn Milian presides over the four-time Emmy award winning “The People’s Court.” For more than two decades, Milian has dispensed justice and provided legal insight in the courtroom where justice and reality collide. And now, you can take the show on the go with “The People’s Court Podcast.”

    “The People’s Court Podcast” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Judge Milian. Running the gamut from disputes between neighbors and family members, to dissatisfied customers suing businesses, Milian’s decisions – based on current law – are final and binding.

    Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In the courtroom, Milian is joined by court officer Douglas McIntosh. Doug Llewelyn interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases.

    Big Drop Nov 17, 2023
    Show notes

    The plaintiff says he hired the defendant to move an Italian family heirloom, but the man dropped it and it broke. The defendant tried to fix it and it looks awful, so the plaintiff is suing for full repair costs. The defendant says his partner did drop the table, and he gave the plaintiff the option of a new table or a repair. He’s countersuing for defamation, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

    Then, the plaintiffs say the defendant hired them to work on tiny houses built for veterans. They claim the defendant stiffed them on their pay, so they’re suing. The defendant says she’s the director of a nonprofit, and one of the plaintiffs was bizarre and aggressive about how they got paid, so she no longer wanted him to work on the home.

    Plus, the plaintiff says his car broke down and the police called the defendant to tow it. His car was damaged at the tow yard after a break-in, but the defendant refuses to cover the cost. He’s suing. The defendant says the car was towed because of a collision and that’s what caused the damage.

    Causing Damages Nov 16, 2023

    The plaintiff says the defendant parked her car so close to the plaintiff’s vehicle that it was touching it and it damaged her bumper. She also claims the defendant is the same woman she recently had a dispute with at a stop sign. She’s suing for the cost of the repairs and harassment. The defendant says the plaintiff is harassing her and accusing her. She said she’s never touched the plaintiff’s car. She’s countersuing for harassment.

    Then, the plaintiff says she bought a house from the defendant, but he turned off the pool two months before she moved in so he could save a buck. Now the water is green and it’s costing her a fortune to clean and refinish. She’s suing for what she’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff had 15 days after the as-is sale to list damages, and she didn’t, so he’s off the hook.

    Plus, the plaintiff says he and the defendant are longtime friends, so suing her is tough. He loaned her thousands, and she’s failed to pay most of it back, so he’s suing. The defendant says she worked off the balance of the loan by cooking, cleaning, and gardening at the plaintiff’s home for months.

    A Losing Gamble Over Penny Ante Nov 15, 2023

    The plaintiff says he gave his co-worker $11 to gamble with in Las Vegas. He claims his friend texted him that he won $5,000 but with his own money. He wants his share of the winnings, so he’s suing. The defendant says he played the plaintiff’s money in a slot machine and lost, so he owes him nothing.

    Then, the plaintiff says he rented a place that the defendant claimed she owned, which he later found out wasn’t true. He says the kitchen had no appliances, and he’s suing for rent and his security deposit. The defendant says the plaintiff is a squatter and a scammer who never gave her a penny.

    Plus, the plaintiff says he brought his dog to the defendant, a veterinarian. He claims the vet overcharged him for things the dog didn’t need, so he’s suing for his money back. The defendant says the dog had a huge tumor and needed an X-ray under anesthesia and blood tests, and he did everything by the book.

    Give Me Some Credit Nov 14, 2023

    The plaintiff says the defendant is a sneaky real estate broker who promised to wipe out her bad credit so she could buy a house. She claims he stole thousands from her, so she’s suing. The defendant says after the deposit on a house was paid, the plaintiff’s mother died, so they could no longer use her credit score and the deal fell through. He’s countersuing for unpaid rent.


    Then, the plaintiff says she took lessons at the defendant’s driving school so she could get a commercial license to drive a school bus. She claims the teacher was inept, so she failed her road test. She’s suing for a refund. The defendant says he’s been in business for decades, and says the plaintiff was nervous during her road test, but that’s not his fault.


    Plus, the plaintiff says she agreed to buy a car from the defendant. After she put down a deposit and traded her car in, she claims he bumped up the price by thousands, so she’s suing for her money back. The defendant says the plaintiff lied about her income, so the finance fees went up significantly.

    Stiffed Over Setting Appointments Nov 13, 2023

    The plaintiff says he worked for the defendant’s company setting up appointments by phone. He claims he’s getting stiffed on his wages, so he’s suing for what he’s owed. The defendant says the plaintiff didn’t keep a record of his hours and appointments, so he doesn’t believe he has to pay him anything.

    Then, the plaintiff says she hired the defendant to train her two dogs, but when she got them back, they had burn marks from being zapped, gashes, and other injuries. They were also untrained, dehydrated, and had worms. She filed a police report for animal abuse, and is suing for her training money back. The defendant says the plaintiff is a scammer who sent his dogs to him because they fought, which is why they had cuts.

    Plus, the plaintiff says the defendant crashed into him while he was at a standstill in a parking lot. The defendant is refusing to cover the damages, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant the crash was a minor fender bender. He says he already gave the man some money and he won’t pay him more.

    Tug-of-War Over a Car Nov 10, 2023

    The plaintiff says she bought her old car back from the defendant and it reeked of pot. She claims the defendant kept the title, and then snuck onto her property and stole the vehicle. She’s suing for the value of the car. The defendant says the car is in her name, and she can prove it.

    Then, the plaintiffs claim their landlord took advantage of them by making up damages to keep their security deposit, so they’re suing to get it back. The defendant says he needed to buy a new dishwasher and fix damaged walls. He claims he already returned part of the deposit and doesn’t owe anything else.

    Plus, the plaintiff says she referred people to the defendant’s CPR classes in return for a fee. She claims she sent her hundreds of students and is suing for what she’s owed. The defendant says she paid the plaintiff $1,000 and claims she never sent her students, so she owes her nothing.

    Fights Over Furniture Nov 09, 2023

    The plaintiff dated the defendant and they used to live together. The plaintiff says they agreed to split the rent and utility bills, but she never paid, so he’s suing. The defendant argues they never had an agreement. She claims he stole her furniture, so she’s countersuing for the cost of furniture.

    Then, the plaintiff took her car to the defendant’s shop to get the transmission fixed. She says her car has been in his shop for a year and she still doesn’t have it back, so she’s suing for the value of her car. The defendant argues he fixed the car but found other problems he needed to fix. He claims she still owes him money, so he’s countersuing for the repair cost.

    Plus, the plaintiff and defendant have been friends for a long time. The plaintiff was moving, and the defendant offered to keep his TVs in her storage unit. When he went to pick up his belongings, one of his televisions was missing. He went to the defendant’s house and saw it on her wall. He’s suing for the cost of a TV. The defendant says she took the plaintiff’s TV out of storage and threw it out because the screen was cracked. She doesn’t think she owes him because they’re friends.

    The Bigger the Hoops, the Bigger the Lawsuit Nov 08, 2023

    The plaintiff bought earrings from the defendant’s store. She says she wanted to return the earrings even though she never wore them. The store’s employee wouldn’t let her return them, so she’s suing for the price of the earrings. The defendant says the earrings were bought at a discount and there’s no record of trying to return them. Plus, the earrings are costume jewelry, and the defendant says they don’t do refunds on costume jewelry.

    Then, the plaintiff rented a room from the defendant for his daughter. The only way to get to the kitchen was through the plaintiff’s daughter’s room and the defendant was reportedly rude to her. The plaintiff and his daughter are suing for a refund on rent. The defendant says the plaintiff is a bully who threatened him. He’s countersuing for the cost of changing locks and emotional abuse.

    Plus, there are three plaintiffs. They bought a car from the defendant and they say the car had major issues when they received it. They took it to a mechanic, who told them there was no emergency brake and a broken spark plug. They’re suing for a refund, car repairs, locksmith costs, and car parts. The defendant argues the plaintiffs never paid in full for the car. He’s countersuing for balance owed, repossession costs, and slander.

    Accident Tears Family Apart Nov 07, 2023

    The plaintiff says she’s known the defendant for 30 years. She claims her former friend drove a car she insured without permission and got in an accident. She’s suing to be reimbursed for the accident deductible. The defendant says she swerved to avoid a cat and hit a wall, and she says she owes nothing.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant is her former landlord, who she claims is keeping her security deposit without cause. The defendant says the plaintiff painted the walls dark brown and damaged them, so he owes nothing because he has to repaint.

    Plus, the plaintiff says she paid the defendant to fix a broken window at her house, but he took off without doing the work. She called and called, and then the cops said she was harassing him. The defendant says the plaintiff called the state police and accused him of a crime just a few hours after he left, and he lost his job because she complained to his boss.

    The plaintiff says he was hired by the defendant to do some website and app design, but he only got two-thirds of the money promised. He’s suing for the money owed. The defendant says he took the defendant in, gave him a place to stay, and offered a letter of reference. He says he owes him nothing.

    Then, the plaintiff says the defendant was driving carelessly, crossed over the yellow line, and smashed into his car. He says the defendant admitted it was his fault and begged him not to call the insurance, but now he’s refusing to pay up. He’s suing for the cost of car repairs. The defendant claims it was a snowy day and the plaintiff was fishtailing.

    Plus, the plaintiff says she rented an apartment from the defendant for years. She claims that the pipe under her bathroom sink burst one day and flooded, and now the defendant is trying to keep the security deposit. She claims it wasn’t her fault, so she’s suing for the money back. The defendant claims the plaintiff caused the flood by leaving the water running all night, damaging two apartments.
