    The People’s Court Podcast

    The honorable Judge Marilyn Milian presides over the four-time Emmy award winning “The People’s Court.” For more than two decades, Milian has dispensed justice and provided legal insight in the courtroom where justice and reality collide. And now, you can take the show on the go with “The People’s Court Podcast.”

    “The People’s Court Podcast” draws on ordinary people who have filed grievances in civil court and have opted to have their cases heard and mediated by Judge Milian. Running the gamut from disputes between neighbors and family members, to dissatisfied customers suing businesses, Milian’s decisions – based on current law – are final and binding.

    Joining Milian is multiple Emmy Award-winning investigative reporter Harvey Levin, who serves as the series’ host and legal reporter. In the courtroom, Milian is joined by court officer Douglas McIntosh. Doug Llewelyn interviews litigants after a decision has been rendered in their cases.

    A Rent Refusal Dec 15, 2023
    Show notes

    The plaintiff rented a room in the defendant’s apartment. She claims the defendant made fun of her and even threatened to shoot her, so she’s suing for a rent refund. The defendant argues the plaintiff didn’t move out when she was supposed to.

    Then, the plaintiff got arrested and asked the defendant to bail her out. She gave the defendant her bank card and PIN, but she claims the defendant stole the money, so she’s suing. The defendant argues she gave the money to the jail, and she doesn’t owe the plaintiff anything.

    Plus, the plaintiff hired the defendant to fix his dryer but says it still didn’t work even after the defendant showed up. He tried to fix the problem himself. The plaintiff hired another company, who told him he had a completely different dryer problem. He’s suing for services because of the misdiagnosis. The defendant argues he offered to return half the service fee, but the plaintiff refused.

    Getting Soaked Dec 14, 2023

    The plaintiff hired and paid the defendant to install copper pipes in front of his home. On the day the work was to start, the plaintiff says the defendant sent three guys who dug and filled a hole in the wrong area of his yard. The defendant then told the plaintiff he didn’t need the pipes, so the plaintiff is suing for a refund. The defendant claims the plaintiff just paid him a deposit, and even though there was no need for copper pipes, his men still performed work.

    Then, the plaintiff claims his college buddy crashed his motorcycle, so he’s suing for damages. The defendant insists the plaintiff was selling the motorcycle and pressured him into taking a test drive, so he denies owing a dime.

    Plus, the plaintiff loaned his former friends, the defendants, money to get out of jail. However, the plaintiff claims they wrote him a check to pay back the loan, but it bounced, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendants thought the plaintiff was giving them the money out of the goodness of his heart and are hurt the plaintiff filed this lawsuit.

    Still Not Finding What He's Looking For Dec 13, 2023

    The defendant booked the plaintiff’s U2 cover band for an event. However, the plaintiff claims the defendant tried canceling the gig two weeks before the performance date, so the plaintiff is suing for the balance due on his contract. The defendant says someone told him the plaintiff was racist and sent him screenshots of “despicable” things the plaintiff wrote on Twitter, so the defendant believes he rightfully terminated the contract.

    Then, the plaintiff brought her phone into the defendant’s shop for repairs, but when she picked it up, it was still broken. The plaintiff claims she brought it back a second time, and when she tried to pick it up, the defendant told her it was gone, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant insists he fixed the plaintiff’s phone the second time around, called her to pick it up, but the plaintiff never showed up. The defendant says he waited over 60 days, and his policy is clear: Merchandise left over 60 days is considered abandoned.

    Plus, the plaintiff brought his vehicle to the defendant’s shop on four different occasions for four different repairs. Unfortunately, his vehicle was still having issues, so he brought it to his local car dealer. The plaintiff claims the dealer said there had been no repairs, so the plaintiff is suing the defendant for all the money he paid him. The defendant insists the Nissan dealer lied, and he did the proper work he was hired to do.

    Turning a Guy down Dec 12, 2023

    The plaintiff met the defendant on the bus, took her out to dinner, and they became friends. The plaintiff ended up loaning the defendant money for various things, but he hasn’t been paid back, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant admits the plaintiff bought her a few things and gave her money, but she insists the loans were a gift. The defendant believes the plaintiff is just suing her out of spite because he has romantic feelings for her, but she doesn’t feel the same.

    Then, the plaintiff owns a landscaping company and says he serviced two of the defendant’s properties, but she stopped paying him, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant claims the plaintiff didn’t come to her house for three weeks in a row, but he charged her just the same. The defendant eventually sent the plaintiff a note to terminate the job, and she believes she doesn’t owe him a dime.

    Plus, the plaintiff claims the defendant shot across two lanes to make a left turn and slammed into his car, so the plaintiff is suing for damages. The defendant insists the plaintiff sideswiped him, and he’s the one who was hit. If anyone’s owed money, the defendant believes it’s him. The defendant is countersuing for an insurance deductible.

    Not Getting It Done Dec 11, 2023

    The plaintiff hired and paid the defendant to install a dishwasher and a hot water tank, but she claims the defendant did half the work and disappeared, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant, a recovering addict, says he asked the plaintiff to stop smoking weed and drinking while he was working, so the defendant left. The defendant is countersuing for harassment, slander, and false claims.

    Then, the plaintiffs rented an apartment from the defendant, but he won’t return their security deposit they say is rightfully owed, so the plaintiffs are suing. The defendant claims the plaintiffs cracked the bathroom sink and ruined the floors and walls, so he has every right to withhold the plaintiffs’ security deposit.

    Plus, the plaintiff purchased a car from the defendant. When he brought it home, the plaintiff says the check engine light turned on, so he asked the defendant to repair it for free like he agreed to do. However, the plaintiff says the defendant refused to fix the car, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant claims the plaintiff got a 50/50 warranty, so he is supposed to pay for half the repairs.

    Not Making a Paycheck Dec 08, 2023

    The plaintiff used to be friends with the defendant and loaned her money to help pay for rent. She says the defendant refuses to pay her back, so she’s suing. The defendant argues the plaintiff has a crush on her and never told her she needed to pay the plaintiff back.

    Then, the plaintiff claims her neighbor’s pit bull attacked her small terrier and almost killed him. The dog almost died, so she’s suing for the cost of vet bills. The defendant argues the woman who lives in the apartment below him owns the pit bull, not him, so he doesn’t think he owes.

    Plus, the plaintiff and her boyfriend rented an apartment from the defendants. She had to move out quickly and says the defendants won’t return her security deposit. She’s suing for moving costs and her security deposit. The defendant argues the plaintiff damaged the apartment, which is why they won’t return the deposit. They’re suing for back rent and repairs.

    Failing a Friend Dec 07, 2023

    The plaintiff was friends with the defendant for almost 40 years. He says he bought four cars for the defendant, but she kept crashing them. He’s suing for the balance of car loans, storage fees, and harassment. The defendant argues she has been paying the plaintiff back.

    Then, the plaintiff rented a house from the defendant and claims it was a mouse-infested mess. She hired exterminators to get rid of the problem, but the landlord never paid her back. She’s suing for the security deposit, moving costs, extermination costs, and storage fees. The defendant argues the plaintiff’s husband broke a fuel pipe and she stopped paying, so he needed to evict her. He’s countersuing for additional rent.

    Plus, the plaintiff brings his son’s ex-girlfriend to court. He claims she took his vehicle without permission and crashed into the car when she was rubbernecking. He’s suing for damages. The defendant argues she only “tapped” the car in front of her when she was going slowly, and this whole thing only became a big deal after they broke up.

    Causing Legal Troubles Dec 06, 2023

    The plaintiff says the defendant is the girlfriend of her current partner’s ex-husband. She says the woman is stirring up trouble by making false allegations about her behavior with her partner’s kids. She’s suing for all she’s out because she had to hire a lawyer. The defendant says the plaintiff is aggressive and abusive, and she’s countersuing for mental anguish and lost wages.

    Then, the plaintiff says he was married to the defendant and she co-signed on a truck for him. He claims that once they were headed for divorce, the defendant stole the truck from him after he served her with spousal support papers, so she’s suing. The defendant says the plaintiff is a cheating scoundrel who missed a truck payment, so her lawyer advised her to repossess it. She’s countersuing for a cell phone bill.

    The plaintiff says she was in her parked car at the grocery store when the careless defendant’s shopping cart crashed into her door and damaged it. She’s suing for the cost of repairs. The defendant says it was a snowy, windy day, and the wind blew it toward the plaintiff’s car. She claims she owes nothing.

    Then, the plaintiff says she’s known the defendant for years and hired him to lay down fresh sod in her yard. Instead, he put in half-dead brown sod, so she’s suing for the shoddy job, and punitive and emotional damages. The defendant says the plaintiff didn’t give the sod time to grow in, and he won’t return any money.

    Plus, the plaintiff says he and the defendant were close friends and former roommates. He claims his former friend owes him money for rent, damages, a bail bond, and airline tickets, so he’s suing. The defendant says the let the plaintiff live with him rent-free, so they’re square. He’s countersuing for four months of rent.

    Stealing From an Ex Husband Dec 04, 2023

    The plaintiff says the defendant, his ex-wife, took money out of his retirement account to pay for a new pool liner, so he’s suing. The defendant claims the plaintiff agreed to pay for the pool liner, and he never asked her to pay him back until recently. Besides, the defendant says the plaintiff owes her money because she paid for their kitchen remodel, and she’s countersuing for appliances and pool maintenance.

    Then, the plaintiff hired the defendant to install a water filtration system in his house, and it guarantees odor-free water. However, the plaintiff says three weeks after the installation, there was a strong sulfur smell, so the plaintiff is suing for a refund. The defendant claims the plaintiff’s water heater needs repair, not the water filtration system.

    Plus, the plaintiff claims the defendant drove his 18-wheeler into her car and should have his license taken away. When the plaintiff brought her car to the defendant’s repair shop, she says they did a horrible job and made it worse, so she’s suing him for the damages. The defendant alleges the plaintiff was the one who caused the accident, and her car was already in poor condition before the crash.
