Interview With "Young Woman And The Sea" Composer Amelia Warner Jul 19, 2024

Show notes

"Young Woman And The Sea" was released in theaters for a limited theatrical run earlier this year and is now widely available to be streamed on Disney+. Scoring some of the highest test scores in the studio's history, the inspirational true story of Gertrude "Trudy" Ederle is backed by a rousing, gorgeous score by English composer Amelia Warner. A few days after watching the film in theaters and being so captivated by the score, I tracked down Warner to speak with her about what I consider to be one of the year's best film scores. She was very gracious with her time, diving into her inspirations, working with producer Jerry Bruckheimer, her opinions on the current landscape of film scoring, and more. Please be sure to check out the film, too, which is now available to stream on Disney+. Thank you, and enjoy!

Interview With “Made In England: The Films Of Powell And Pressburger” Director David Hinton & Executive Producer Thelma Schoonmaker Jul 15, 2024

Show notes

“Made In England: The Films Of Powell And Pressburger” had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival earlier this year, where it received rave reviews for delving into the films and careers of two of the greatest storytellers the medium as ever known: Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger. From “Black Narcissus” to “The Red Shoes,” to “A Matter of Life and Death,” to “The Tales of Hoffmann,” their collaboration inspired a generation and is still revered for their daring artistry to this day. Director David Hinton and Executive Producer Thelma Schoonmaker (and Powell’s widow wife) were both kind enough to spend a few minutes answering questions about the documentary, which is now playing at Quad Cinema in New York City and will open in Los Angeles at the Landmark’s Nuart Theater on July 26th with a national rollout to occur afterward.

"Longlegs" Jul 13, 2024

Show notes

For this week's main podcast review, Ema Sasic, Brendan Hodges & Will Mavity, and I are reviewing the latest film from director Osgood Perkins, "Longlegs," starring Maika Monroe, Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, Nicolas Cage, Michelle Choi-Lee & Dakota Daulby. In what has been billed as one of the scariest films ever made and with many comparisons to "Se7en" and "The Silence Of The Lambs," NEON's new movie is part serial killer, part police procedural and part horror film, all coming together to create what is sure to be their most successful film to date. Is it as scary as many have said? What did we think of the performances, the filmmaking, and the marketing strategy? Tune in as we discuss these elements and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you for listening, and enjoy!
