Our 2010 retrospective continues with David O. Russell's "The Fighter" starring Mark Wahlberg, Amy Adams, Christian Bale, Melissa Leo, Jack McGee & Frank Renzulli. Considered at the time to be a comeback film for O. Russell, the successful boxing film went on to make over $100 million at the box office and score seven Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and winning two Supporting Acting awards for Christian Bale and Melissa Leo. How does it hold up today? Please tune in to listen to Josh Parham and me discuss our thoughts on the writing, performances, boxing scenes, its awards season run, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you for all your support, and enjoy!

Interview With "Kill" Star Lakshya & Director/Writer Nikhil Nagesh Bhat Jul 05, 2024

Show notes

"Kill" had its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, where it was the First Runner Up winner for the Midnight Madness section. Director/Writer Nikhil Nagesh Bhat's bloody, action, revenge film has been described as "The Raid" meets "Snowpiercer," and the companions could not be any more true. Bhat and his leading star, Lakshya, were kind enough to spend some time talking with me about their experience making the film, how it has found an audience in the United States, what went into the fight choreography, and more. Please be sure to check out the film, which is now playing in theaters from Roadside Attractions. Thank you, and enjoy!

He was generous with his time to talk with us about his swarmy private investigator character, John Labat, which you can listen to below. Please be sure to check out the film, which will open in theaters on July 5th from A24. Thank you, and enjoy!

"Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1" Jul 02, 2024

Show notes

For this week's second podcast review, Josh Parham & Giovanni Lago, and I are reviewing the latest film from Academy Award-winner Kevin Costner, "Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1," starring Costner, Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Giovanni Ribisi, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Michael Rooker, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jeff Fahey, Will Patton, Tatanka Means, Owen Crow Shoe, Ella Hunt, Jamie Campbell Bower & Thomas Haden Church. After having its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, the first part of Costner's epic western (which will stretch across four separate films) has been met with mixed reviews, some calling it a classic throwback to the great westerns we rarely see get made anymore and others saying it doesn't work as a standalone film. Does it belong on television or in the theater? What did we think of it? Tune in as we discuss this, plus the film's theme, its magnificent score, the performances from the massive ensemble, whether or not it has awards potential, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you for listening, and enjoy!
