"Dallas Buyers Club" Jul 08, 2021

Show notes

THIS IS A PREVIEW PODCAST. NOT THE FULL REVIEW. Please check out the full review on our Patreon Page by subscribing over at - https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture

Our 2013 retrospective continues through July with a film that received a ton of praise, including three Oscar wins at the time of its release. It has gone on to be re-evaluated since then for its problematic casting and handling of its sensitive subject material. We are talking about "Dallas Buyers Club," starring Matthew McConaughey, Jared Leto, and Jennifer Garner. What do we think of the story, the performances, the writing, the directing and editing from Jean-Marc Vallée, the film's criticism, and more? It's a very detailed and nuanced conversation with a range of opinions. We hope you enjoy hearing from me, Amanda Spears, Zoe Rose Bryant & Patreon guest Tyler Strandberg. You can also check out our previous 2013 retrospective reviews of "Captain Phillips," "Philomena," "The Wolf Of Wall Street," "The Great Gatsby," "Her," & "Inside Llewyn Davis" if you have not done so already.

Interview With "No Sudden Move" Star, Amy Seimetz Jul 07, 2021

Show notes

"No Sudden Move" is the latest film from Steven Soderbergh (and is now streaming on HBO Max) that starts with a simple crime and evolves into something much bigger. Actress Amy Seimetz plays Mary Wertz, the wife of Matt Wertz (played by David Harbour), who ends up at the center of a babysitting job for three armed criminals. At the same time, her husband attempts to retrieve a document from his boss for the dangerous men, but of course, things don't go as planned. A filmmaker herself, Amy was kind enough to take some time to talk to us about working with Soderbergh, the other actors, how she made the most of limited screen time, and more! Take a listen down below and enjoy!

Interview With "The Tomorrow War" Director, Chris McKay Jul 05, 2021

Show notes

"The Tomorrow War" represents a massive leap for director Chris McKay who made a name for himself working on the Lego Movies, most recently directing "The LEGO Batman Movie." Now, he's working with a large budget, a huge scale, movie star Chris Pratt and a story that involves time travel, alien creatures, and more! It's quite an undertaking for any director. After having the film delayed due to COVID-19 and sold from Paramount to Amazon, the movie is currently streaming for the world to see on Prime Video. Chris was kind enough to take a moment to speak with us about his latest film, which you can listen to down below. Enjoy!
