Interview With "Ailey" Director, Jamila Wignot Jul 23, 2021

Show notes

Premiering earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and screening later at the Tribeca Film Festival, NEON's latest documentary "Ailey" has garnered overwhelmingly positive critical praise for its look at one of the most influential dancers of all time, Alvin Ailey. As a former dancer myself, it was very meaningful for me to watch a documentary tell Ailey's life story, and getting the chance to speak with director Jamila Wignot about how she brought that to the screen was an immense joy. Please tune in to our conversation below, where we discuss Ailey's importance in dance culture, his legacy, and more! Enjoy!

Interview With "Joe Bell" Star, Reid Miller Jul 20, 2021

Show notes

"Joe Bell" had its world premiere at last year's Toronto International Film Festival under the name "Good Joe Bell." It sat on the shelf for almost a year, underwent a re-edit, and is now finally coming to theaters this weekend from Roadside Attractions. Despite what people felt about the movie, many agreed that Reid Miller delivered a fantastic breakout performance. "Space Jam: A New Legacy" Jul 17, 2021

Show notes

This week, Josh Parham & Daniel Howat join me for our main podcast review of "Space Jam: A New Legacy ," starring LeBron James and Don Cheadle. Arriving in theaters and on HBO Max 25 years after the original "Space Jam," the film incorporates the Looney Tunes characters, Basketball superstar LeBron James, and other Warner Bros. owned intellectual properties in a way that has sparked a ton of criticism and discussion over its manipulating use of nostalgia and the corporate intentions behind the film's very existence. What did we think of it, though? Tune in below to find out.
