"The Green Knight" Aug 03, 2021

Show notes

This week, Sara Clements, Casey Lee Clark & Dan Bayer join me for our second podcast review of the newest film from filmmaker David Lowery, "The Green Knight," starring Dev Patel, Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton & Sean Harris. The fantasy epic has divided audiences and united critics with its meditative and beautiful approach to the Arthurian poem it is based on. Filled with symbolism and no easy answers to its challenging questions about its themes, we have many interpretations of this new work of art from Lowery. As a result, this is a spoiler-filled discussion, so please don't listen if you have not already seen the movie. What did we think of the story, the craftsmanship, performances, and the many themes the film is working with? Tune in below to listen to us help each other sort our thoughts, and enjoy!

Show notes

This week, Nicole Ackman, Josh Parham & Dan Bayer join me for our main podcast review of the newest Disney film, "Jungle Cruise" starring Dwayne Johnson & Emily Blunt. Interview With "Nine Days" Director/Writer, Edson Oda Jul 30, 2021

Show notes

Writer and director Edson Oda's "Nine Days" had its world premiere what feels like forever ago at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. After numerous release delays, the Independent Spirit Award nominee is now playing in theaters from Sony Pictures Classics and will be expanding to more theaters on August 6th. Edson was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about the origins of the film's unique concept, working with Winston Duke, his belief in pre-existence, and more! It's a fascinating interview for one of the most equally fascinating films of the year. Do not miss this one! Take a listen down below and enjoy!

"Gravity" Jul 29, 2021

Show notes

THIS IS A PREVIEW PODCAST. NOT THE FULL REVIEW. Please check out the full review on our Patreon Page by subscribing over at - https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture

Today is a big one. We're reviewing Alfonso Cuarón's technical masterpiece "Gravity," starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. A visual stunner upon its release, the film begged to be seen on the biggest screen possible (and in 3D) with its groundbreaking cinematography and visual effects. The story deeply resonated with audiences, too, bringing in a ton of box office and seven Academy Award wins, including Cuarón's first Best Director win. What do we think of it all of these years later? How does it hold up watching it at home as opposed to in the theater? What did we think of the story, the performances, and the craft on display? We discuss all of this and more in our review down below! Joining me for this review, I have Casey Lee Clark, Dan Bayer, Josh Parham, Michael Schwartz, Will Mavity & Patreon guest Matt Ward.

Interview With "Pig" & "Old" Star, Alex Wolff Jul 26, 2021

Show notes

Alex Wolff is one of the most exciting young actors working today. Never attempting to repeat himself, he has two movies currently playing in theaters ("Pig" and "Old") with vastly different performances in each of them. At age 23, the New York-based actor and musician has already impressed us with performances in movies such as "Hereditary," "Patriot's Day," and "Bad Education." That trend is only continuing with his latest performances. Alex was kind enough to talk with us about both projects, his experience working with M. Night Shyamalan, Nicolas Cage, and more! Take a listen down below and enjoy!
