"Armageddon Time" Nov 05, 2022

Show notes

For this week's main podcast review, I am joined by Josh Parham and Dan Bayer. Together we're reviewing the newest film from director James Gray, "Armageddon Time," starring Jeremy Strong, Anne Hathaway, Banks Repeta, Jaylin Webb & Anthony Hopkins. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and is now playing in theaters from Focus Features as it tells the story of Gray's childhood as a young kid growing up in a Jewish-American household in 1980s Queens, New York. Interview With "All Quiet On The Western Front" Director, Edward Berger Oct 31, 2022

Show notes

"All Quiet On The Western Front" had its world premiere at this year's Toronto International Film Festival, where it stunned audiences with its bleak story and technically astounding battle sequences. Based on the famous novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque, this is the first time the story has been adapted in German for a global audience. The film has been selected by Germany for Best International Feature Film at this year's Oscars and features some of the finest crafts of the year, all worthy of your consideration for this year's awards season. Director/Writer Edward Berger was kind enough to spend some time talking with me about why he decided now was the right time to tell this timeless story again, what went into making the action scenes, and more. Please take a listen to the interviews down below and be sure to catch the film on Netflix if you have not done so already. Thank you, and enjoy!

Interviews With "The Good Nurse" Stars Jessica Chastain, Eddie Redmayne & Director Tobias Lindholm Oct 28, 2022

Show notes

"The Good Nurse" is a dark true crime story that raises important questions about the health care system and provides Academy Award-winning actors Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne juicy roles to play under the cold and calculated direction of Tobias Lindholm ("A War"). The three of them were kind enough to spend a few minutes chatting with me about their work on the film, which you can now watch on Netflix. Please take a listen to the interviews down below and enjoy! Thank you.

The Next Best Series Podcast - "House Of The Dragon" Season 1 Oct 26, 2022

Show notes

THIS IS A PREVIEW PODCAST. NOT THE FULL REVIEW. Please check out the full podcast review on our Patreon Page by subscribing over at - https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture

HBO's hotly anticipated "House Of The Dragon" had to follow the disastrous final season of "Game Of Thrones" by telling a prequel set hundreds of years before the events of that show based on George R.R. Martin's book "Fire And Blood" about the Targaryen dynasty. The show tells the story known as "The Dance Of Dragons," a Targaryen civil war that divided the realm and nearly brought the once almighty house to extinction. The show has received critical acclaim and has proved to be a ratings success for HBO. But, most importantly, it's won A Song Of Ice And Fire fans back to the world of Westeros as the first season just concluded, and audiences are eager to see the show return for its second season in (hopefully) spring 2024. What did we think of the first season, though? Tune in as Josh Parham, Zoe Rose Bryant, and returning guest Brendan Hodges joins me to discuss the characters, writing, visual effects, music, and more from a show we have a lot of criticism for but also a tremendous amount of love. We also cover what we hope to see in Season 2 and what we feel the show's Emmy potential might be given how massively successful "Game Of Thrones" was with the Television Academy. Please take a listen as we share our full, spoiler-filled thoughts on the first season.

"The Banshees Of Inisherin" Oct 25, 2022

Show notes

For this week's second podcast review, I am joined by Ema Sasic, Nadia Dalimonte, and Tom O'Brien. Together we're reviewing the latest film from director/writer Martin McDonagh, "The Banshees Of Inisherin," starring Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Kerry Condon & Barry Keoghan. The film reunites McDonagh, Farrell, and Gleeson for the first time since "In Bruges" and is being called McDonagh's best film to date due to its scaled-back approach compared to "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri," the dark humor, performances, writing and stunning use of the Irish landscapes. Tune in below as we discuss all of these elements, along with spoilers towards the end of the show, as we try to unpack the many layers to McDonagh's story and the film's Oscar potential. Thank you, and enjoy!
