Show notes

"The Eight Mountains" had its world premiere at last year's Cannes Film Festival, where it received positive reviews for its stunning photography of the mountain landscapes where a majority of the film takes place, the performances from Luca Marinelli and Alessandro Borghi, and the direction and writing from filmmaking duo Felix van Groeningen & Charlotte Vandermeersch. Borghi was kind enough to spend a few minutes with Dan Bayer discussing his work on the film, while I had the pleasure of sitting down with van Groeningen & Vandermeersch to talk about how they worked together on this ambitious project. Please take a listen down below and enjoy! Thank you.

"The Iron Lady" Apr 27, 2023

Show notes

THIS IS A PREVIEW PODCAST. NOT THE FULL REVIEW. Please check out the full podcast review on our Patreon Page by subscribing over at - https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture

Our 2011 retrospective continues with Meryl Streep's third Oscar-winning role in Phyllida Lloyd's "The Iron Lady" starring Meryl Streep, Jim Broadbent, Olivia Colman, Alexandra Roach & Harry Lloyd. A biopic on one of Britain's most controversial politicians, the film gave Lauren LaMagna, Meredith Loftus, Isaiah Washington, and me a chance to revisit or, in some cases, watch for the first time a film that has garnered just as mixed of a reputation as the infamous British Prime Minister it's based on. Tune in to hear what we thought of the story, Streep's performance, the makeup, editing, its awards run, and more. Thank you for all your support, and enjoy! Also, be sure to check out our other 2011 retrospective reviews for "War Horse" and "The Help."

Interview With "Beau Is Afraid" Stars Amy Ryan & Nathan Lane Apr 21, 2023

Show notes

"Beau Is Afraid" is the latest film from auteur director Ari Aster and it's proving to be his most divisive but fascinating feature yet. The nightmarish horror comedy is a three-hour-long epic odyssey that takes Beau (Joaquin Phoenix) to the ends of the earth on a journey to visit his mother, with whom he has a complex relationship. After hitting him with their car, he awakens to meet the kindly couple, Grace (Amy Ryan) and Roger (Nathan Lane), who may not be who they say they are to Beau. Amy and Nathan were kind enough to spend some time talking with me about their work on the film, collaborating with Aster and more. Please check it out below, enjoy and be sure to check out the film, which is currently playing in theaters from A24! Thank you.
