How to get stakeholders taking action for org change success Sep 10, 2021
    Show notes

Something I see quite often is where the change team is highly motivated to work toward their change initiative but there’s no real momentum for the transformation in the rest of the organisation. To make successful, long-lasting change, you simply must get your stakeholders on board and here’s how you do it.

In this episode, I share 3 super practical tactics that you can start implementing immediately to help bridge the gap between busy work and actually seeing results within your organisation.

These tips are specifically geared towards helping you make it easy for your stakeholders to participate in your change program.

I talk about being clear over clever, why clarity and simplicity in your messaging are vital and the importance of taking the time to make people feel cared about. You’ll also hear about influencer marketing and how working strategically with your organisation’s influencers will help you amplify your key messages to gain real momentum from the ground up.

These game changing tactics will be relevant to you, regardless of the nature of your transformation. Use these strategies and get ready to see a whole lot more traction and support for the change across your entire business.

Collective or top down: Who sets the org transformation vision? Sep 03, 2021
    Show notes

There are two schools of thought when considering who should set the transformation vision. Should they be set by the leadership team (top down) or should they be set collectively?

In this episode, I am so excited to share my opinion and why I feel so strongly about this issue.

You may disagree, but I believe that it is more beneficial for the transformation vision to be a top down approach. To be set by the senior leader and then delivered to their leadership team.

Leadership is so important to the culture of their organisation. Good leadership is the most effective method to deliver their change story and get everybody excited about it.

I have seen many good and bad leadership teams in organisations. The leader can make people feel supported, respected, or conversely, they can fuel burn out, terror, blame, dehumanise people and leave team mates feeling valueless - even unintentionally.

I can’t wait to share my step by step approach to ensuring you lead your team effectively by developing and delivering a successful transformation vision.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this issue. Do you think I’m right in believing that transformation visions should be top down? Or do you think there is another way to do it?

How to get people excited about digital transformation (Hint: stop sounding technical!) Aug 27, 2021
    Show notes

I know it can be so challenging to get your employees and stakeholders pumped for your digital transformation. People have a tendency to tune out if the messaging doesn’t seem relatable, they don’t understand it or it contains too much jargon.

You can get your employees on board and thrilled for the transformation by bringing the messaging down to earth to ensure it lands with everybody. Put your important points in the context of the business outcomes, rather than the technology.

To help you strategize and simplify your messaging, I will share with you four hot tips to get your people excited and motivated for your digital transformation and really engaging with your journey.

Do you really need a change management strategy? (Psst: No, you don't) Aug 13, 2021
    Show notes

Do you always need a change management strategy?

My take on this topic is one that perhaps not everyone will agree with because in my books, the answer is no! In this episode, I talk about what a change management strategy is, when you need one and why it’s not always relevant to every project or initiative.

I talk about having ONE overarching change management strategy for big, bold moves that cover long term, significant goals and placing aligned action plans under this umbrella. I also discuss the importance of appropriately diagnosing the business problem that your change initiative is going to overcome and share a simple exercise to help you do this.

Your change management strategy is your vision for the future, the compass for all the change efforts to come. I share a few of the most important elements that I recommend you include in any change management strategy to help bring it to life across your entire change effort.

Stakeholders WFH? 3 Big tips for change managers Aug 06, 2021
    Show notes

Last week I talked about keeping your eyes peeled for trends within your organisation and the power of aligning your change management strategies with these trends to drive your change success.

Today, I discuss an evolving workplace trend that has impacted most of us in the last 18 months and is certainly here to stay. That’s right, I’m talking about working from home. We all know why this trend is here, so in this episode, I discuss some tactical implications that change managers should keep in mind to help drive killer and long lasting organisational change.

I share 3 big tips to help you drive change within a geographically dispersed flexible workspace. I talk about forgetting the one off approach to training and focusing more on creating a continual cycle of capability uplift. I hone in on the quality and quantity of communication and deliberately setting aside time to facilitate the “water cooler” experience.

However it looks for your organisation right now, it’s all about creating a sense of belonging. We do this by emphasising human centred thinking, human focussed design, communication approaches and genuine dialogue. Then, when you intentionally design the right mix of strategies and operational tactics, you CAN drive successful and long lasting change, no matter where your employees are.

How making friends with workplace trends can propel your change success Jul 30, 2021
    Show notes

One thing I’ve noticed over the years is that most change managers like to stay inside their comfort zone. What worked in the past will work now, right? Wrong. The world and the people in it are constantly changing and that’s why it’s so important for change leaders to evolve their strategies and tactics accordingly. We do this by keeping our eyes peeled for trends.

In this episode, I discuss what trends are, why it’s important to be aware of them and how intentionally aligning to relevant trends in your organisation will make delivering change far easier.

I share some trends that I’m seeing now and how to be strategic with the structures, processes and policies in your organisation to align with them. I talk about highlighting the purpose of your change initiative, transparency, peer to peer collaboration, and being intentional about designing and facilitating learning environments within the workplace.

3 Must Dos to build trust when implementing change Jul 23, 2021
    Show notes

Trust is essential for change success but it’s certainly not a given. Trust is always earned. Research shows without a doubt that a lack of trust within an organisation leads to a resistance to change, poor performance and is a major roadblock when it comes to delivering a successful transformation program.

So how do you build trust? In this episode, I share 3 practical ways that you as the change leader can up the trust factor to help to remove barriers, keep momentum going and help employees join the dots between the new way of doing things and what it means for their role.

I dive into consistently articulating a strategic narrative or change story and establishing a cross functional leadership team to create a united leadership front. I also discuss how vital it is to invest in capability uplift which establishes an environment where employees are valued and feel safe to learn.

These tips are relevant to your change program, no matter what. Whether you’re entirely redesigning the organisation or switching from paper based to digital briefings, your business is made up of 5 people in one building or you have thousands of employees scattered across the globe, do these 3 things and you will absolutely build more trust.

Stack the deck for breakthrough change success using this powerful lens Jul 09, 2021
    Show notes

I’m talking about friction today. It might sound a little strange but understanding what friction is and how it can potentially roadblock your transformation agenda is a game-changer.

In this episode, I outline 4 different types of friction to look out for when rolling out your change initiative so you can improve the likelihood of change adoption in your organisation. I discuss friction in your product or system, user driver friction, implementation friction, and intentional friction. I outline how these all factor into the success of your transformation agenda and how the thing to focus on is motivation, which is the fuel for your change project.

What we’re talking about today is particularly relevant for digital transformation but this concept is just as relevant to change adoption in numerous fields.

So, where’s the friction in your change initiative?
