How to be an influential transformation leader when you don't have any time Apr 13, 2021
    Show notes

It goes without saying that as a senior leader in your organisation, you are likely inundated with things to get done and there just aren’t enough hours in the day to get through them all. Let me assure you, however, it is possible to be a highly influential leader who drives transformation in your organisation, even if you don’t have any time.

In this episode, I share a strategic mini action plan which will enable you to make a big impact in just a few hours a month. That’s right, a month. I discuss the 3 important pillars that every senior leader must embody to really drive and influence organisational transformation and outline some very specific steps you can take to practically bring these pillars to life with ease.

I break it down into a simple execution plan to show how you can drive transformation with a small investment of time. I talk about creating a resource pack so that it’s really easy to be a powerful story teller. I discuss the tactic of thinking like a media centre, repurposing content to release fresh communication which enables you to be consistently visible. I talk about the vital component of being conversational, both verbal and non verbal and how by doing so, you will build trust with the people in your organisation.

You can’t always be out having one on one conversations with your team but what you can do is be strategic and walk your talk to inspire true engagement with your change initiative.

The killer mistake most leaders make talking about transformation Apr 06, 2021
    Show notes

A super common frustration that many senior executives struggle with is how to get their people engaged in a transformation agenda. I see it all the time and in this episode I discuss the killer mistake most leaders make when communicating their strategic narrative.

In this episode, I talk about the hero and guide archetypes and how incorporating these into your change story will help your people feel engaged, aligned to the cause and start tapping into their discretionary energy, which is a crucial ingredient behind high performing teams.

I discuss the hero journey, the path we all take as we adapt to change and adopt the new way. I share how this is relevant in life and in the context of organisational transformation and that positioning your people as the hero will help them visualise themselves in the strategic narrative.

If you’ve ever heard people say they can’t see themselves in the change, this episode is for you. I’ve never come across a change initiative that I couldn’t strengthen or make more compelling for the audience by incorporating what I discuss in this episode today. It’s an absolute game-changer.

4 Ways the change team should be supporting you Apr 02, 2021
    Show notes

As the senior sponsor in your organisation, you play a critical role when it comes to driving transformation. But that doesn’t mean you have to go it alone. Research shows that initiatives with great change management in place are far more likely to deliver desired outcomes. To really make an impact and drive the change to see sustainable transformation in your organisation, you need a great change team.

In this episode, I discuss why having a dedicated change team is so important and how with the right team, you can confidently focus your efforts on the highest impact activities, knowing that the change team is delivering to get the job done. I also discuss why having a team as opposed to a single manager is far more effective for you and the organisation as a whole.

I share 4 ways your change team should be supporting you and discuss what that looks like in the areas of navigation, communication, strategic advice and reporting. I also discuss how it’s a two way street and share the ways you need to support your team in return, including owning the narrative, providing ongoing visibility and being open to expert advice.

6 Reasons why nobody cares about your transformation agenda Mar 30, 2021
    Show notes

As the driver of change within your organisation, it can be incredibly frustrating when your transformation agenda doesn’t take off. The journey to embed genuine change can take time, but that doesn’t mean you should be stuck treading water while you wait for everyone to get on board. The hard truth is, people just don’t care yet.

In this episode, I discuss 6 reasons why people aren’t caring about your transformation agenda and why it’s not getting any traction. I share my advice on what you can do to help people embrace your enthusiasm for change and how you can make the strategic narrative come alive in your business.

I talk about the power of messaging, why it needs to be full of your energy and not riddled with boring and unrelatable corporate speak. I discuss the importance of focusing on the real life benefits of the change instead of the technical features and making sure you have an aligned leadership team who continues to tell the strategic narrative over and over again. And I repeat, over and over again!

The #1 thing you need before you launch your change initiative Mar 25, 2021
    Show notes

In my 20 years experience helping leaders and executives transform their organisations, I’ve seen so many reform programs suffer because they were missing a critical element from the outset. If you want your launch to be successful, gain momentum and real engagement within your organisation, this podcast is for you.

In this episode, I talk about creating a clear, compelling, strategic narrative and how it’s the number one thing you need before you launch your change initiative. I discuss how creating this narrative will explain the context for change in a way that your employees can relate to, enabling them to take ownership and unleash their discretionary energy.

I discuss the importance of knowing and communicating your why, how to embed the strategic narrative into your organisation and how change is always about individuals choosing to change. I talk about the reticular activating system (RAS) which explains why humans pay attention to stories and share 4 practical tips to help you get started creating your clear, compelling, strategic narrative.

No matter where you’re at in your change journey, it’s never too late to create a strategic narrative that will invoke the long-lasting reform you desire in your organisation. Change is always about people choosing to change so by crafting a story that individuals can relate to, you’re making the journey more understandable, more streamlined and more successful.
