I’m a big believer in the power of great change management. When a transformation is implemented successfully, it can help to make work better and more fulfilling for so many people. But what makes a transformation successful? There are a lot of contributing factors and surprisingly, my top factors are ones that I don’t hear a lot of people talking about.

In this episode, I share the top 3 factors that I believe contribute to the success of a great transformation or change agenda. I discuss understanding the core best practise principles of what good looks like in all areas of your organisation and how you operate inside the business as well as with other teams. I talk about the crucial aspects of understanding your organisation and designing and implementing a killer strategy based on a deep understanding of your audiences.

If you’re a change leader and you want to roll out your initiative with great success, this is an episode for you.

8 Quick tips for leading change when your org has screwed it up in the past Jun 02, 2021
    Show notes

More often than not, I find clients telling me that their organisation has screwed up a change initiative in the past. If your organisation has a legacy of failure, it can seem a near impossible task to drive change within a culture of mistrust, uncertainty and change fatigue.

If you’re in that boat, you’re not alone and this episode is absolutely for you. I share my 8 steps for leading change when your organisation has screwed up in the past. You’ll hear a summary of each step and some practical tips to help get you moving in the right direction.

I discuss why it’s important to assume that people don’t trust you and how taking this approach will help you guide strategy, planning and decision making moving forward. I talk about the critical step of acknowledging and apologising for past failure and taking a humble approach towards partnership with employees instead of telling and delegating.

When there is a track record of failure, it’s important to understand why the previous change initiatives have failed and I share my tip on diagnostics and actively seeking feedback from your employees throughout the change journey.

I talk about why enlisting the support of your directors and assistant directors is an absolute game changer, keeping time as your friend and doing everything in your power to create a culture of psychological safety.

This is a jam packed episode with so much practical information for you to start driving change in an effective, inclusive, and successful way, even if your organisation has screwed up in the past.

3 Huge lies change leaders tell themselves May 26, 2021
    Show notes

I’ve said it before that resistance and denial are a normal part of the change process and I’ve seen it in action time and time again. It’s not uncommon for change leaders to bunker down in denial, telling themselves lies which end up blocking the success of the change they’re seeking.

In this episode, I share the 3 huge lies that change leaders (unintentionally) tell themselves and why they don’t help the change agenda in any way, shape or form. These lies creep in like cheeky buggers and I’m telling you, no leader is immune. I’ve seen them demonstrated across many levels working with lots of different clients.

Now, don’t stress if you see yourself in any of these situations. There’s plenty you can do to turn things around and in this episode, I share some really practical things you can start doing now to get back on track. I talk about the power of vulnerability, how change takes time and the importance of living and breathing curiosity.

The Easy Equation I Use to Forecast the Success of Change Programs May 19, 2021
    Show notes

One of the challenges I see senior executives face when their organisations are undergoing a change initiative is tracking how well the initiative is actually doing. It might look a certain way on paper and seem like they’re ticking all the right boxes, and yet so many initiatives are ineffective and fall short of the success envisioned.

In this episode, I share a simple yet powerful equation that can be used to accurately track your change initiative effectiveness. It’s called the Change Effectiveness Equation and I break it down to show how the effectiveness of any change initiative is equal to the product of the quality of the technical solution, multiplied by the acceptance strategy of that change. Sounds simple enough, right?

I discuss what researches have been saying on this subject, the importance of providing attention to the cultural factors of an organisation and the vital aspect of getting the people behind the change initiative.

I promise you, once you know this equation, you’re never going to forget it. You’ll be able to use it anytime you need a yard stick on the likely success of any change initiative in your organisation.

There is no stopping an aligned leadership team. When people are working in sync together to reach a common goal, they absolutely will achieve what they set out to do. Establishing an aligned leadership team takes time and consistent effort but it is something absolutely vital to drive transformation and create a thriving organisation.

In this episode, I discuss what it takes to achieve alignment within your organisation and how it isn’t something that necessarily happens on its own. I share the three pillars of shared consensus, trusting relationships and consistent business rhythm and discuss practical ways to establish these pillars to create a collaborative, innovative, productive and genuinely invested team.

This episode will be particularly relevant if your team has recently formed or is undergoing a restructure. Wherever you are in your transformation journey, investing your time and energy into an aligned leadership team will pay dividends across your entire organisation.

4 Clever questions to take your personal brand (and transformation) to the next level May 05, 2021
    Show notes

I know, when you hear the words “personal brand” you might think that it’s only something influencers or those in the media need to be concerned with. However, having a strong personal brand is so important for effective leadership and transformation in any organisation.

If you have a strong personal brand that is easily identifiable, you will be able to incite change more easily inside and outside of your organisation. It makes it a hell of a lot easier to lead if your staff are on board, and one of the most effective ways to ensure that is by being clear on how you want to be portrayed.

Today I’m going to break down the four questions that you need to ask yourself when building your personal brand profile, and some tools that you can use to establish your strengths.

It may feel like an unnecessary use of your time, but I can assure you it is hugely effective. Take the time to establish how you want to be viewed, and you will encounter less resistance to change, more understanding, and a greater commitment to getting things done!

5 Transformation mistakes that are a complete waste of time Apr 20, 2021
    Show notes

When your organisation undergoes transformation, there is often a big gap between where you are now and the desired end state. It’s a frustrating part of the change process and the trap that a lot of senior leaders fall into is thinking they need to do more to drive the change. How much of what you’re doing is actually being effective?

In this episode, I talk about 5 things that are a complete waste of time during transformation and the best approach to take when your time is limited and there are many competing priorities.

I discuss understanding the difference between your sphere of authority and your sphere of influence, being realistic about the impacts of the change and the importance of speaking your stakeholder’s language. I talk about the power of sending a personal thank you card and how this simple gesture can often be more impactful than an official recognition award. I also talk about having an open door policy and how this can actually be a complete waste of your time.

As the driver of change in your organisation, your time is precious and it’s vital that you focus your energies towards the high impact initiatives. My goal is to help you invest your time and resources in a way that drives the transformation forward without the wasted effort.
