Longhorn Republic: December 21, 2021 - Changes on the Texas Staff Dec 21, 2021
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns wasted no time in filling the hole left by Stan Drayton's move to the Temple Owls, filling his post as running backs coach with Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets star and coach Tashard Choice. Choice, known as an up-and-comer in the coaching industry, can hopefully fill the shoes left by Drayton both as a developer and recruiter. However, Texas has another hole to fill in its coaching staff as Steve Sarkisian is reportedly parting ways with wide receivers coach Andre Coleman, who's been on the Texas staff since 2019 when he joined as an analyst. Texas also lost depth in the quarterback room, as quarterback Casey Thompson decided to take his talents elsewhere following the addition of Quinn Ewers to the roster. We discuss his legacy as a Texas quarterback and what his impact was as Texas tries to transition to a new era of Longhorn football. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Longhorn Republic: December 16, 2021 - National Signing Day Recap Dec 16, 2021
    Show notes

After a wild recruiting weekend, the Texas Longhorns still had some surprises up their sleeves heading into National Signing Day. The Texas staff managed to flip three priority targets from the Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes and the Oklahoma Sooners, en routed to landing the No. 5 class in the country and the top class in the conference. Outside of the flips, Texas also managed to land yet another top-tier offensive lineman as the day drew to a close. We take a look at who is still left on the board and who we think will make an immediate impact for the Longhorns heading into 2022. We also dive in on the basketball team's big win over Arkansas Pine Bluff and celebrate Texas players who earned recognition for successful years in volleyball and soccer. Longhorn Republic: December 14, 2021 - Big Recruiting Weekend for Texas Dec 14, 2021
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns had four days of massive recruiting news that could potentially impact both the short and long-term potential of the program. The Longhorns received commitments from three key offensive linemen, including the No. 15 player in the country, Kelvin Banks, the No. 23 player in the state, Neto Umeozulu, and priority tackle Cameron Williams, adding a ton of size and potential to the offensive line. Texas also received word that after flirting with both the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the TCU Horned Frogs, elite quarterback transfer Quinn Ewers planned on transferring to the Longhorns and joining in the spring. The former No. 1 player in the class of 2022 reclassified and spent a year at Ohio State, seemingly to capitalize on NIL deals that he was unable to in his home state. So what does the quarterback bring to the table and how does his game adapt to Steve Sarkisian's offense. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Longhorn Republic: December 9, 2021 - Gearing up for Seton Hall Dec 09, 2021
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns are heading to New Jersey to take on the Seton Hall Pirates as a part of the Big East-Big 12 Battle, hoping to bring the Big 12 to a 4-4 tie in the annual battle of the conferences. The Pirates are riding a four-game win streak heading into the matchup, but lost their last game against a ranked team - falling to the Ohio State Buckeyes 79-76 two weeks ago. How do the Longhorns match up against the streaking Pirates and what can Texas do to come out of Newark with a win? We also dive in on all of the postseason awards handed out to Longhorn athletes and check in on the Longhorns in the NFL before closing out the show with our entertainment recommendations of the week. Longhorn Republic: December 7, 2021 - New NIL Deals Dec 07, 2021
    Show notes

Texas Longhorn athletes were presented with not one, but two opportunities to capitalize on their Name, Image and Likeness thanks to the Clark Field Collective and Horns with Heart. These two organizations are designed to connect Texas athletes with opportunities to use their newly-found NIL rights and be compensated for their time and partnership. This is a game-changer for Texas athletics and should allow student-athletes to receive greater value as they market themselves. It was also a big week on campus, with the volleyball team running through the first round of the NCAA Tournament, while both the men's and women's basketball teams both walked away with wins. We also recap who is staying and who is taking their talents elsewhere on the football team, before we close the show out with Bang the Drum - discussing the future of Texas in the Big 12 and the 2022 recruiting class. Longhorn Republic: November 30, 2021 - Kansas State Recap Nov 30, 2021
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns managed to snap their six-game losing streak and with their 22-17 win over the Kansas State Jayhawks, sending the senior class out on a relatively high note. The game hinged on the performance of junior running back Roschon Johnson, who served as a wildcat quarterback for the majority of the game - allowing Texas to both compensate for the injuries to the quarterback as well as control the pace of the game. He finished with a career-high 31 carries and 173 yards and a touchdown, capitalizing on the numbers advantage created by the formation. Defensively, Texas managed its best third-down performance of the year, thanks in-part to the fact that they saw the field less than they had all season and won time of possession for the first time since TCU. Longhorn Republic: November 25 2021 - Kansas State Wildcats Preview Nov 25, 2021
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns have one more shot to snap the losing streak, welcoming in an equally injured but much more successful Kansas State Wildcats team to close out the regular season. Kansas State is potentially without quarterback Skylar Thompson, who is dealing with a significant injury suffered against the Baylor Bears a week ago. Two untested backups are set to relive him, so the Wildcats will likely lean on star running back Deuce Vaughn, who currently sits No. 4 in the conference in rushing yards and second in touchdowns. They also bring with them one of the scariest rushers in the conference Felix Anudike-Uzomah - who leads the Big 12 in sacks and sits just one-half sack behind Jalen Pitre for the conference high in tackles for loss. What will it take for a battered Texas team to close this season out with some pride and a win? Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Longhorn Republic: November 22 2021 - West Virginia Mountaineers Recap Nov 23, 2021
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns saw their hopes for a bowl game go up in smoke Saturday as they fell to the West Virginia Mountaineers, extending the losing streak to six games in the process. The Longhorns once again saw a very winnable game slip away late, no thanks to injuries to both Casey Thompson and Hudson Card late in the game as they tried to mount their final comeback. The Texas defense gave up 459 yards - including 252 on explosive plays - while allowing the Mountaineers to convert on 60 percent of their third-down conversions. Jarret Doege had no problems with the Texas defense, passing for 290 yards and three touchdowns - without turning the ball over. Now Texas has one more chance as they welcome in the Kansas State Wildcats to Austin for Senior Day. With a win over KSU, they could snap the losing streak, send their seniors out with a much-needed win and close the season on a relatively positive note. Longhorn Republic: November 18, 2021 - West Virginia Mountaineers Preview Nov 18, 2021
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns are in need of any sort of positive news. For the first time in school history, Texas lost to Kansas on the road - cementing their first five-game losing streak since 1956. Now the Longhorns head to Morgantown to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers in a literal must-win game if they want to avoid missing a bowl game for the first time since Charlie Strong's last year on the sidelines. The Mountaineers are in the same spot - sitting 4-6 on the year with just two weeks left to play. They've been the definition of up-and-down this season, taking the Oklahoma Sooners to the brink while also being blown out by the Baylor Bears and the Kansas State Wildcats. What do the Mountaineers bring to the table and what, if anything, can Texas do to stop the current skid? Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook.
