    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns are in the midst of closing out the Frank Erwin Center as a basketball arena and in the men's finale Texas was unable to hold off a late surge from the Baylor Bears. Despite a double-digit lead, Texas struggled to hit from three-point range and couldn't put enough distance between them and Baylor to stave off a late push. What went wrong and what does that mean for Texas as they close out the regular season? On the baseball diamond, Texas struggled with the weather but the pitching staff held on, giving up just two runs in the weekend series with the Alabama Crimson tide to remain perfect on the year. The pitching staff continues to show why they're one of the elite units and can hold the Longhorns down on a night where the bats aren't quite in synch. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Longhorn Republic: February 22, 2022 - Baseball Rolls, Basketball Stumbles Feb 22, 2022
    Show notes

The No. 1 Texas Longhorns took to the diamond this weekend and looked every bit the part of the top team in the country, led by three dominant pitching performances in the sweep of the Rice Owls. Not to be outdone, the Texas bats -- led by Trey Faltine and Ivan Melendez -- put up gaudy totals in the season-opening series. What does that mean for Texas as they build to what they hope is a historic season? The basketball team, after a thrilling win over the Oklahoma Sooners, rode a 10-minute scoring drought and dropped their second matchup of the season against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The Longhorns tried to make a comeback in the second half -- led once again by Andrew Jones -- but were unable to get close enough to strike. Longhorn Republic: February 15, 2022 - Baseball Preview Feb 15, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns have big expectations and big hopes on the diamond ranked atop both the conference and the nation the season after making a legitimate push for a national championship. Coach David Pierce has had some talented groups on the Forty Acres but may not have had a group like this yet in his stint in the dugout for the Longhorns. So how do they stack up against a team that was a walk-off single away from playing for a title? We also dive in on the men's basketball team's struggles against Baylor, the women's basketball team seemingly finding its stride, and the rest of the competition happening on campus as we Down the Forty. We close the show out looking at some Longhorns preparing for the next level and a few Valentine's Day movie recommendations. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Longhorn Republic: February 9, 2022 - Basketball Riding High Feb 09, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns men's basketball team may finally be on the right track, rattling off back-to-back statement wins in an effort to shake off a disappointing outing against Texas Tech. It started with a dominating performance against the Iowa State Cyclones, scoring 24 points off of 18 turnovers and holding the No. 20 school in the nation to just 28 percent shooting for the game. Texas also got big contributions from Marcus Carr and Andrew Jones, who both chipped in 14 points in the win. The momentum continued as Texas welcomed in the Kansas Jayhawks and pulled off their biggest win of the year, upsetting the No. 8 team in the country. The win, thanks to suffocating defense from Courtney Ramey and a career night from Timmy Allen, keeps Texas firmly in the Big 12 race with just three weeks left in the regular season. Longhorn Republic: February 3, 2022 - Recapping the 2022 Recruiting Class Feb 03, 2022
    Show notes

After the flurry ahead of the Early Signing Period, the Texas Longhorns had a relatively quiet close to the class but added a massive piece with the addition of five-star offensive lineman Devon Campbell from Arlington Bowie. The addition of Campbell not only gives the Longhorns their highest-ranked offensive lineman since the Mack Brown era, they also added a second five-star prospect that could be an early contributor for Texas. With the addition of Campbell, Texas added seven offensive linemen in the cycle -- three of which sit in the top 100 players in the country -- to shore up one of the key areas of need. Add to that the seven defensive linemen and edge rushers in the class and half of the players signed play in the trenches. What does that say about how the Longhorns will look and play in the distant, and not-so-distant, future? Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Longhorn Republic: February 1, 2022 - Texas Picks up Two Big Wins Feb 01, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns picked up not one, but two quality wins on the men's side of things thanks to a blowout win over the TCU Horned Frogs and a narrow win over the Tennessee Volunteers and returning head coach Rick Barnes. The Longhorns played one of their most dominant games of the season after a slow start against TCU, finishing the day with a season-high 22 fast break points en route to a 23-point win. They also managed to out-rebound one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the country by a 15-9 margin. Against the Volunteers, Texas managed to overcome yet another offensive drought -- going more than five minutes without scoring a point. Thanks to a late-game free throw, the Longhorns avoided overtime and finished as one of just three Big 12 schools to beat their SEC opponent. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Longhorn Republic: January 25, 2022 - Basketball and Transfer News Jan 25, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns continue to search for consistency on the hardwood, after giving up a five-point lead to Kansas State but managing to run away from the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Budding star Marcus Smart may have found his way, but can the rest of the team do enough to support him and lift Texas out of the middle of the conference. The ladies put in two big wins over Iowa State and TCU, setting themselves up well for a run at the top of the conference. They still have some of the toughest matchups still on the schedule but are hitting their stride at the right time. We also take a moment to dive in on the latest transfer addition to the football team and check in on all of the spring sports as we Down the Forty. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Longhorn Republic: January 18, 2022 - Another up-and-down week Jan 18, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns can't seem to find their rhythm on the court, at least as it comes to stringing conference wins together. After taking care of business and looking good while doing it, Texas struggled mightily against the Iowa State Cyclones and are still without a Q1 win for the season. The ladies struggled with turnovers and the Kansas Jayhawks' high-powered offense took advantage of it in an overtime win. So Vic Schaefer switched up the lineup and got a big upswing in performance from both his starters and the bench. On the football field, the spring enrollees are on campus and in the dorms, preparing for offseason conditioning ahead of spring practice. From the new transfer players to the early high school graduates, hope are high that some of these players can have an instant impact. But who will those impact players be? Longhorn Republic: January 11, 2022 - Texas Hoops Inconsistency Continues Jan 11, 2022
    Show notes

Texas Longhorns had an up-and-down week on the hardwood, both the men and the women - splitting the week 1-1. On the men's side, Texas started the week with a big win over the Kansas State Wildcats, but went to Stillwater and fell flat, falling 64-51 in an abysmal shooting performance. Just two players hit double-figures for the Longhorns, Timmy Allen and Andrew Jones, turning in an 8-27 performance from the floor. The ladies did not fare much better in their conference matchup, falling 74-61 to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, thanks in large part to a 23-point performance from Vivian Gray. Tech went to the line early and often, capitalizing on nearly every opportunity from the charity stripe. Their early-season matchup with the Baylor Bears had to be rescheduled, so they took on UT-Rio Grande Valley and made the most of the matchup. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. January 4, 2022 - Basketball Starts Conference Play Jan 04, 2022
    Show notes

Texas Longhorns basketball officially started conference play over the weekend, with the men taking on the West Virginia Mountaineers and the women taking on the Oklahoma State Cowgirls. The men jumped all over the Mountaineers, building a double-digit lead quickly which they never surrendered. Marcus Carr and Courtney Ramey did the bulk of the damage for Texas, with Andrew Jones chipping in for the offensive effort. At least for one game, Texas found a way to be efficient on offense, capitalizing on the extra possessions and pace Chris Beard prefers. On the women's side, Texas extended its winning streak to seven with a 11-point win over Oklahoma State thanks to patented Vic Schaefer defense, holding OSU to just 30.8 percent shooting on the night. We also dive in on new wide receivers coach Brennan Marion, as well as commitments for both the football and basketball teams. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook.
