Longhorn Republic: April 20, 2022 - Texas Adds Agiye Hall Apr 21, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns went looking in the transfer portal for another offensive weapon and came away with former top-50 recruit Agiye Hall. The talented wideout was recruited by Jeff Banks when he was with the Alabama Crimson Tide, but did not make a big impact in Tuscaloosa and decided to try a new location. What does Hall bring to a wide receiver room that was in need of more playmakers? What will the room look like when fall camp rolls around? We also dive in on the comings and goings in the transfer portal for the basketball team, some 2021 players, and some who are still undecided to unpack how they will impact Chris Beard's squad moving forward. What will Texas look like with more athleticism and explosiveness on the court? Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Longhorn Republic: April 19, 2022 - Baseball Woes Continue Apr 19, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns had an opportunity to move up in the conference standings but couldn't take advantage of it and dropped the series to the Kansas State Wildcats, who had won just one conference game heading into the matchup. Texas looked like it was ready to cruise Thursday, but blew a big lead before getting run off of the diamond on Friday. Thankfully for fans, the Longhorns avoided the sweep with a solid pitching performance from Lucas Gordon on Saturday. In Down the Forty, the men's golf team was back on the course and won their second-straight tournament, a final tune-up before the Big 12 tournament, while the softball team ended OU's 40-game win streak, and both the men's and women's teams continue their hot play as the regular season winds down. Longhorn Republic: April 14, 2022 - Diving in on the Director's Cup Apr 14, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns took home the Director's Cup a year ago for the top athletic department in the country, thanks, in part, to a strong performance from the winter and spring sports. As Texas heads into another spring season with an opportunity to take a shot at another crown for the top athletic department in the country. After two national championships in indoor track and field, a pair of runner-up finishes in swimming and diving, and runs to the Elite 8 in volleyball and women's basketball, Texas currently sits in fifth place in the standings, but is better positioned to make a run at the title in the spring. We welcome to the podcast Brett Wilkinson, a self-made expert in the Director's Cup, to help us understand the history behind the Longhorns' strong showing in the last several years and why he thinks Texas has a shot at the top spot once again. Longhorn Republic: April 12, 2022 - Spring Practice Updates and TCU Baseball Apr 12, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns had a scare over the weekend, taking on the TCU Horned Frogs, but thanks to solid Sunday pitching and seven runs they managed to take the weekend series. After a complete-game shutout on Friday, the pitching slumped yet again Saturday, before finally making the rebound, but what is at the root of the inconsistency? Can Texas figure it out by Big 12 play to set themselves up for a deep run in the postseason? We also dive in on the most recent reports out of the football team's spring practice and what it means for our expectations for the spring game and beyond. How is the offense shaking up and what do we want to see when Texas takes the field in a few weeks to close the year? Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Longhorn Republic: April 5, 2022 - Baseball Tops OU Apr 05, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns needed some wins in a bad way on the baseball diamond and managed to do that in dramatic fashion, taking a 2-1 series win over the Oklahoma Sooners. After splitting the Friday and Saturday matchups, Texas fell behind 7-1 in the rubber match but scored 11 unanswered runs to take a lead and the series. The Texas pitching got back on track Friday, but the bullpen yet again let them down on Saturday and Sunday, so what can Texas do moving forward to keep the ship afloat? The winning wasn't just contained to the baseball diamond, the softball, track, and golf teams were all in action this weekend -- and all brought home wins in their competition. We also discuss the new NIL opportunities through OpenDorse, as well as the latest commitment to the 2023 recruiting class. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Longhorn Republic: March 30, 2022 - Baseball Falls Flat, WBB Makes a Run Mar 30, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns' baseball team had a tough weekend in Lubbock, as the pitching staff struggled nearly top to bottom -- dropping the weekend series but avoiding the sweep with a run-rule win on Sunday. It seems like the pitching staff has been falling apart since Tanner Witt ended his season due to injury, but how did it get so bad so fast and what can Texas do to fix it? Thankfully for David Pierce and his coaching staff, the bats seem to be able to try and keep pace with opponents as Texas tries to figure it out. The Texas women's basketball team made its second-consecutive trip to the Elite 8 thanks to a convincing win over the Ohio State Buckeyes before falling to the Stanford Cardinal in a tough game. We look back on what can only be described as yet another successful season, with a young Texas team playing well ahead of schedule -- signaling big things to come. Longhorn Republic: March 23, 2022 - First Weekend of the NCAA Tournament Mar 22, 2022
    Show notes

The NCAA Tournament is in full swing. On the men's side, the Texas Longhorns avoided the upset everyone wanted to happen and put together a drama-free outing against the Virginia Tech Hokies to pick up the team's first NCAA Tournament win since 2014. In the second round, Texas went up early on the Purdue Boilermakers but struggled to score in the first half and ultimately lost a game closer than the final score indicated. The Texas women, however, took care of business as a two-seed, dominating Fairfield and Utah to advance to the Sweet 16 for the second consecutive year under head coach Vic Schaefer. This makes six straight Sweet 16s for Schaefer, leading a team that is young and talented, potentially even ahead of schedule as they look to knock off the Ohio State Buckeyes in the next round. Longhorn Republic: March 16, 2022 - NCAA Tournament Preview Mar 17, 2022
    Show notes

Both the Texas Longhorns men's and women's basketball teams are going dancing, but are on two very different trajectories and they head into the NCAA Tournament. The Texas men lost three winnable games against the Baylor Bears and the Kansas Jayhawks to close the regular season, then followed that performance with a 20-point meltdown in the Big 12 tournament against the TCU Horned Frogs. The Longhorns were selected as a six seed in the tournament but drew one of the toughest 11-seeds in the country, the Virginia Tech Hokies. The ACC Tournament Champions won 13 of their last 15 games -- including a 15-point win over the Duke Blue Devils to claim the tournament title. The Texas women, on the other hand, won their last 11 games heading into the tournament, including 67-58 win over the Baylor Bears in the Big 12 Tournament championship and end a decade of futility against the annual conference power. The women will now host two rounds of the tournament to close out the Frank Erwin Center, starting with the Fairfield Stags on Friday. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Longhorn Republic: March 15, 2022 - Baseball Falters, Basketball Struggles Continue Mar 15, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns continue to adjust to the loss of Tanner Witt on the baseball diamond, struggling with consistency in the pitching staff and dropping their first season series 2-1 at the hands of the South Carolina Gamecocks. In spite of the loss, Ivan Melendez continued his big year of production, earning Big 12 player of the week honors for his troubles. However, Texas will need more than one big bat to get the job done in Big 12 baseball. On the hardwood, while the men were giving up a 20-point lead in an opening-round loss to the TCU Horned Frogs, the ladies were marching through the conference tournament to bring the first conference championship trophy for that program since 2003. The men's track team brought home a national championship trophy, while the rowing team started its national championship defense in dominant fashion. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Longhorn Republic: March 8, 2022 - Baseball Soars, Basketball Falters Mar 08, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns went to Houston with something to prove on the diamond and came away with convincing wins over ranked teams, topping the Tennessee Volunteers 7-1 and the LSU Tigers 6-1 in the ranked matchups of the weekend. With those two wins, Texas seemingly proved that when they are at the top of their game there are very few teams that can hang with them. However, with Sunday starter Tanner Witt scratched from the lineup as a precaution, the Longhorns learned that they are far from invincible, falling to the UCLA Bruins 5-1. The men's basketball team hoped to close the season out with an upset win over the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence, but couldn't keep the offense going in overtime, losing their second game to close out the regular season. Locked in for a tournament-opening matchup against the TCU Horned Frogs, can the Longhorns snap the skid and avoid letting all of the wind out of their sails heading into the NCAA tournament?
