We start off the show with a celebration, as the Texas Longhorns claimed their second national championship this week thanks to the men's golf team knocking off the Arizona State Sun Devils in the match play championship. That makes the third national title in two weeks for Texas and the fourth of the academic year, with still more teams in title contention. Next, Mike Roach makes his long-awaited return to the podcast, to help us preview the upcoming slate of summer visitors, including the biggest name still left on the board. What should Texas fans expect from the next stage of 2023 recruiting, who should we have our eyes on as Texas makes a push to close, and will Arch Manning's decision really have that big of an impact on how the 2023 class shakes out? Longhorn Republic: May 31, 2022 - Baseball Regionals and a Rowing Championship May 31, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns came up one game short of a conference championship on Sunday, falling to the Oklahoma Sooners in the conference tournament, However, thanks to a solid run to end the regular season and in the conference tournament, as well as the decision to announce the regional hosts before the conference tournament was over, Texas found itself hosting a regional once again. Bringing the Air Force Falcons, Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, and Dallas Baptist Patriots to town and coming away with a win is no small task, especially as Texas deals with its own penchant to give up the long ball. Now as they enter the postseason, all of their pre-season goals still are ahead of them, the road may be tougher. The Longhorns also brought home another team championship, as well as two individual championships, home to Austin over the weekend. The championships started with the rowing team repeating as champions in dominant fashion, beating rival Stanford by 15 seconds to claim the title. Then the doubles tennis pair of Richard Ciamarra and Cleve Harper snagged the men's doubles title, while Peyton Stearns brought home the trophy for women's singles. Longhorn Republic: May 23, 2022 - Tennis Natty and a Baseball Sweep May 23, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns women's tennis team ran a gauntlet of three top-5 teams this weekend to clinch their second-consecutive national championship. What makes it even sweeter is that they got revenge on the team that knocked them out of the indoor national championship tournament, the Oklahoma Sooners. That not only puts another trophy in the hall of fame, but gives Texas another big win toward its quest to repeat as the Director's Cup champions. It was also a big weekend on the diamond, as both the baseball and softball teams took care of their respective business. For baseball, the Longhorns are on a quest to improve their seeding and to position for the postseason and polished off an undefeated final week with a sweep of the Kansas Jayhawks thanks to another stunning offensive weekend. The softball team went on the road as an underdog and knocked off the Washington Huskies in dramatic fashion, keeping the Huskies from advancing as a host for the first time in school history. Longhorn Republic: May 17, 2022 - A Championship Weekend May 17, 2022
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns took to the field this weekend and came home with three conference championships, both track and field teams, as well as the rowing team, continued a record of dominance dating back years with their respective championships. The track and field teams now have claimed 11 indoor and outdoor championships in the four years under coach Edrick Floreal, while shattering records at essentially every meet they've attended this year. Texas also put the boats in the water and swept the Big 12 rowing championships, bringing home their seventh-consecutive conference championship. We also take a look at where the baseball team currently stands with just one week left to go in the Big 12 regular season, as all of the top teams jockey for position heading into the conference tournament. Longhorn Republic: May 12, 2022 - Developing Quarterbacks May 12, 2022
    Show notes

For the second year in a row, the Texas Longhorns have a quarterback battle on their hands. Sophomore quarterback Hudson Card is locked in a battle with Quinn Ewers, who took a long and winding path to end up at Texas after earning one of the highest evaluations of a high school quarterback of all time. Card, no slouch of his own, was the No. 59 player in the country a few cycles ago, meaning Steve Sarkisian has two highly-talented quarterbacks to develop and choose from. Sarkisian is known as one of the elite quarterback recruiters in college football, having coached six first-round draft picks and two Heisman winners in his time as a quarterback coach, offensive coordinator, and head coach prior to his time at Texas. He now has another opportunity to mold two elite-level talents, needing whichever one he chooses to lead his offense to reach their ceiling quickly for both his sake and the sake of the program overall. Their success, or lack thereof, in 2022 could set the trajectory for the remaining years of the Steve Sarkisian era at Texas. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. They roared back and run-ruled Houston Baptist and appeared to be cruising after a big doubleheader sweep of the West Virginia Mountaineers. Texas narrowly missed a perfect week thanks to yet another bullpen meltdown, blowing a lead in the sixth inning. What can we take away from the successful performances and how can Texas try to mask the bullpen deficiency with just one week left in the regular season? We also dive in on a successful week of tennis from the men and the women as they start their march in the NCAA tournament, the softball getting hot at the right time, and the women's golf team's strong opening round in the NCAA tournament. May 5, 2022 - The Changing Landscape of College Football May 05, 2022
    Show notes

College football is currently changing and this week the Texas Longhorns were at the center of the conversation, and controversy, around the changes. With the combination of the one-time transfer rule and players now having the ability to capitalize on their name, image, and likeness, there is a financial side to the roster management in high-level college football. Reportedly, Xavier Worthy and Jhadae Barron were courted by NIL money to different destinations, before both ultimately making the choice to stay. While the NCAA tries to put the toothpaste back in the tube, players and fans are weighing in on the new landscape of college football. So what does this mean for the future of college football and how can the Texas Longhorns position themselves to continue their trek back to relevance nationally? Not only does that mark the first time since the start of conference play that Texas was swept, but it also locked in Oklahoma State as the regular season Big 12 champion with one week of conference play left. How did this season go off the rails so wildly and what, if anything, can Texas do to salvage it?
