    Longhorn Republic: October 28, 2021 - Baylor Preview + Women's Basketball Preview Oct 28, 2021
    Show notes

Officially a dynamic duo again, podcast host Gerald Goodridge returns to discuss the Texas Longhorns taking on the Baylor Bears as both teams exit a bye week. We break down a prolific running game that has carried the #16 Bears to one of the best records in the country and what Texas needs to do to halt a trend of outplaying, but not finishing off ranked opponents in the previous two weeks. In addition to football, we preview the No. 25 ranked Texas Women's Basketball team opening the second year of the Vic Schaefer era with the man who knows him best: Alex Gomez of Sports Illustrated and Swish Chronicles. Expectations are lofty for the team picked only behind a Kim Mulkey-less Baylor team in the conference and after a Cinderella run to the Elite 8. Replacing #1 overall pick Charli Collier will be a tall task, but this is a team with 7 new players and arguably the top recruiting class in school history. Longhorn Republic: October 26, 2021 - Midseason Recruiting Update with Mike Roach Oct 26, 2021
    Show notes

Texas Longhorn football had a bye this past weekend, so in lieu of a look back and recap -- we are offering a look ahead to the Longhorns of Tomorrow. Mike Roach from 247 Sports joins the podcast to discuss the momentum after back-to-back close losses to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and how it is more neutral than reverse. We focused especially on the offensive line: how the approach of Kyle Flood and Coach Sark is different than the previous regimes, who is on the board to join the current class, and how fans should feel about the future of the position. We also looked at playmakers at the skill positions (and particularly Wide Receiver) as Xavier Worthy has stepped on campus and immediately become our WR1 and biggest playmaker out wide. It wouldn't be a recruiting podcast without some discussion of Arch Manning from someone who has covered him closely -- Mike gives some insight into where Texas stands in the pack and a bit of the momentum that could come in the 2023 class with Manning on board. As is now tradition for a Mike Roach/Longhorn Republic production, Mike breaks down what he's been watching when he's not grinding tape and gives some elite recommendations. Longhorn Republic: October 21, 2021 - Men's Basketball Preview Oct 21, 2021
    Show notes

With football on a bye week, it is a good time to look ahead to a program kicking off in a few weeks with new faces and lofty expectations. New Head Coach Chris Beard and his staff hit the transfer portal hard to fill out the Longhorns Basketball roster. We have Bitterwhiteguy (formerly of Barking Carnival, now part of the Pretend We're Football Podcast and the Bitterwhiteguy Substack site) on to break down the new additions, the familiar faces, the optimal rotation, and the coaching philosophy to tie it all together. We discuss the ceiling and floor of the AP Preseason #5 team, and how much effect a coaching staff has on that. We discuss the out-of-conference schedule (tipping off on November 9th against Houston Baptist). We also take a look at a loaded Big-12 conference and attempt to stratify it into tiers and identify the teams that may jump between them before the season is over. Longhorn Republic: October 19, 2021 - Oklahoma State Recap Oct 19, 2021
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns head into the bye week coming off of yet another collapse - this time at the hands of the Oklahoma State Cowboys. However, instead of the defense collapsing under the offensive pressure, the Oklahoma State defense shut down the Texas offense - allowing the defense to slowly bleed until one big play sealed the deal. What happened to the Longhorns' offense on Saturday and what can Steve Sarkisian do about it with two weeks off? How does the defense limit gash plays and keep opponents from ending up in short-yardage situations? Quarterback Casey Thompson had his worst outing of his five starts as he nurses an injury to his throwing hand. So Texas has to take advantage of the week off to get healthy and get ready for a tough Baylor Bears squad. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Longhorn Republic: October 16, 2021 - Oklahoma State Instant Reaction Oct 17, 2021
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns went into halftime leading by four but managed just 92 yards and seven points in the second half to fall to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, losing back-to-back games heading into the bye. The Texas offense had just one sustained drive in the second half, its first of the third quarter. After that, the offense went three-and-out four straight times, was stopped on fourth down, and threw a game-clinching interception. The Longhorns managed just one yard in the fourth quarter, which is obviously illustrative of how poor Texas played. How did Texas get here and what could they have done differently to avoid yet another embarrassing result as they try to rebuild. Now, Texas has to watch the rest of the conference shake itself out and see where the chips fall. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Winning is Hard: Xavier Worthy's G.O.A.T Potential, High Stakes for Texas Recruiting, and Oklahoma State Oct 15, 2021
    Show notes

Wescott Eberts and Cameron Parker get you prepared for a big weekend in Texas football with a new "Winning is Hard" podcast. They open with a discussion on Xavier Worthy's performance against Oklahoma and what his ceiling can be at Texas and beyond. Plus, Steve Sarkisian and Kyle Flood's decision to shake up the offensive line (9:00), Pete Kwiatkowski's decision to NOT shake up the defensive scheme (14:00), are recruiting misses and attrition to blame for the defensive woes? (20:30), the big recruiting weekend for Texas (28:00), and keys to the Oklahoma State game (34:00). Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Longhorn Republic: October 14, 2021 - Oklahoma State Cowboys Preview Oct 14, 2021
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns may have lost one game, but their season goal of winning a conference championship is still in front of them and the march to Arlington starts Saturday against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Texas has an opportunity to rebound strong and show that they are a team that is able to bounce back and overcome adversity, taking on the No. 12 team in the country. The Cowboys are not the Oklahoma State teams of the past, with the defense leading them to success and the offense doing just enough to get the job done. Oklahoma State currently ranks at or near the top in most defensive categories, while the offense sits at No. 9 offensively in the conference. So how do they match up against a potent Texas offense and a defense in need of some answers? Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook. Longhorn Republic: October 11, 2021 - Red River Recap Oct 12, 2021
    Show notes

The Texas Longhorns pulled ahead early, but couldn't sustain the offensive momentum and allowed the Oklahoma Sooners to erase a three-score lead en route to a 55-48 loss in the Red River Showdown. The Longhorns put up massive numbers early, en route to a 388 yard, five touchdown performance from Casey Thompson, who connected with Xavier Worthy for a record-setting 261 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Both are now set up for big finishes in the second half that could etch their names in the record books when it's all said and done. However, the defense stole the show in the worst way possible, putting together one of the worst all-time performances against the run en route to the loss. So what does this say about where Texas is in the early stages of the Sark era and where does the team go from here? Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook.
