1577: Subsidizing “Healthy Food” Can Improve Health, But Who Defines It? Nov 21, 2019
    Show notes

“I think food recommendations should be listed as condition specific. The food that is OK for a diabetic is going to be much different from someone that isn’t.”

    - Jimmy Moore

If we could get more people to start embracing eating real, whole, healthy foods in their diet, then we could reduce healthcare costs by tens of billions of dollars and lower rates of diseases like heart disease and Type 2 diabetes dramatically. A new National Institutes of Health (NIH) study did computer analysis estimating these savings and you can read about it below.

Prescribing healthy foods could bring cost-effective benefits: https://www.nih.gov/news-events/nih-research-matters/prescribing-healthy-foods-could-bring-cost-effective-benefits

While this sounds all well and good at face value, there’s one huge problem with this according to health podcaster and international bestselling author of KETO CLARITY Jimmy Moore. It boils down to one question–who decides what defines “healthy food?” Listen to learn what these researchers think is healthy food and why it will likely be an utter disaster to most who try it in this episode

1576: Best Of, Nina Teicholz Shares Why Butter, Meat and Cheese Belong in a Healthy Diet Nov 20, 2019

“From the beginning when Ancel Keyes said ‘who can prove me wrong’, diet science has been characterized by their poor scientific choices.”

    Nina Teicholz

Today’s interview guest is an investigative journalist named Nina Teicholz who has written columns for Gourmet magazine, The New Yorker, The Economist, The New York Times, and The Washington Post. After being asked by a publisher to write a book about the health impact of trans fats over a decade ago, Teicholz found a much deeper story that was more salacious and groundbreaking than even she realized at the time–the negative attention saturated fat receives as a culprit in disease was just plain wrong and the unfounded low-fat diet advice has been the most disastrous public health experiment in world history. The culmination of over a decade of research and writing has resulted in the release of her 2014 book The Big Fat Surprise: Why Butter, Meat and Cheese Belong in a Healthy Diet that has already hit the New York Times bestsellers list.

Listen in to hear Jimmy and Nina discuss why we’ve never heard of her before now, the differences between her book and Gary Taubes’ classic Good Calories, Bad Calories, the history behind how the American Heart Association bought into the anti-saturated fat bias of Ancel Keys, how the anti-sugar work of John Yudkin was mocked and ridiculed by anti-fat proponents, the fraudulent way the Mediterranean diet was created (by Keys) and marketed as “healthy,” how the vilification of tropical oils like coconut oil actually led to the increased use of trans fats, how groups like the Center for the Science in the Public Interest led by Michal Jacobson have had such an influence with good and bad results, the problem with omega-6-rich polyunsaturated fats from vegetable oils producing oxidation products when heated, and so much more! This new book from Nina Teicholz takes the message of Taubes to the next level in a narrative form that makes the notion of a high-fat diet more mainstream that it’s ever been before. The tide is turning and this book is going to be a big reason why.

“People think of hospitals as the place where health begins. Why isn’t a hospital the first place to lead the way to health?”

    Jimmy Moore Paid advertisement

What would happen if hospitals took the leadership on being a part of the solution to the obesity and chronic disease epidemics by making a policy to prevent sugary-sweetened beverages like soda, fruit juice, energy drinks, and chocolate milk from being sold in vending machines and in cafeterias in their hospitals? It could make a profound impact and it’s already happened in the little town of Reston, West Virginia where a family doctor there named Dr. Mark Cucuzzella began lobbying for it several years ago–and now it’s finally happened! Read the press release about it below.

Jefferson Medical Center announces initiative to eliminate sugar-sweetened beverages: https://wvumedicine.org/news/article/jefferson-medical-center-announces-initiative-to-eliminate-sugar-sweetened-beverages/

This is incredible news to health podcaster and international bestselling author of KETO CLARITY Jimmy Moore who says hospitals have the great responsibility to be the standard bearer for healthy living and that making this removal of sugary drinks (and maybe down the line sugary food, too!) catch on across the United States would be nothing but a positive thing for the collective health. Listen to Jimmy share more about this exciting news in this episode.

“I wonder if we are training our brains to continue the sugar addiction we are trying to overcome by continuing to use these products.”

    Jimmy Moore Paid advertisement

There’s a new sweetener that’s all the rage in the keto community because it supposedly doesn’t raise blood sugar and insulin levels. It’s called allulose and it’s got the taste and cooking properties of real sugar without the calories or negative effects on your health. The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) just issued their heralded GRAS (generally recognized as safe) status to this sweetener. Read all about this news that will open the floodgates to new low-carb food products hitting the market in the next year below.

FDA guidance could prompt surge of interest in low-cal, tooth-friendly, rare sugar allulose: https://www.foodnavigator-usa.com/Art…

This is a double-edged sword for health podcaster and international bestselling author of KETO CLARITY Jimmy Moore who says while this is good news for people wanting something sweet, having more sweet treat options might not be the answer. Listen to Jimmy share his thoughts about this new development and what it means for the ketogenic community in this episode.

1573: Best Of, Dr. Will Cole On The Functional Medicine Approach To Improving Health Nov 13, 2019

We also will be airing shows from his wildly popular JIMMY RANTS live show that originated on Instagram Live and now resides at JimmyRants.com.

“Most people don’t realize that their doctor is only trained to diagnose disease and match it with a corresponding drug.”

    Dr. Will Cole

From the international bestselling author of Ketotarian comes a revolutionary new plan to discover the foods your unique body loves, hates, and needs to feel great. In Dr. Will Cole’s game-changing new book, readers will discover how inflammation is at the core of most common health woes. What’s more, it exists on a continuum: from mild symptoms such as weight gain and fatigue on one end, to hormone imbalance and autoimmune conditions on the other. How you feel is being influenced by every meal. Every food you eat is either feeding inflammation or fighting it. Because no one else is you, the foods that work well for someone else may not be right for your body. At heart, The Inflammation Spectrum is about learning to love your body enough to nourish it with delicious, healing foods. You’ll find insightful quizzes and empowering advice to put you on a path toward food freedom and overall healing, once and for all.

It seems the more conventional medicine tries to deal with the chronic diseases of our modern day, the more stark their failure at getting to the root causes of these health problems appears. That’s why there has been a rise in the number of Functional Medicine practitioners in recent years attempting to correct these errors and helping patients truly find a pathway back to health again. That’s the heart soul of a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based Functional Medicine practitioner and clinical nutritionist named Dr. Will Cole. He sees patients in person in the Pittsburgh area as well as via telephone or Skype around the world to help them with a wide variety of common health problems with a customized solution tailored just for them.

Listen in as Jimmy and Dr. Cole discuss the major differences between the way Functional Medicine and Conventional Medicine handle health problems, how the labs and analysis of functional medicine doctors is different, the lack of knowledge from standard doctors regarding what to do with autoimmune disease, the problem with only looking at TSH to determine overall thyroid health, the carbohydrate connection to diabetes, and so much more! If you’re fed up with the mainstream medicine approach to treating your health, then you won’t want to miss this special interview with Dr. Cole.

1570: Best Of, Sam Feltham Takes On Calorie Myths With His 5,000-Calorie Self-Experiments Nov 06, 2019

While Jimmy is gone on a much needed and deserved sabbatical for six months to rest and recuperate, we will be bringing you the best of the best from the vast archive of shows that Jimmy has accumulated over the last 15 years. We also will be airing shows from his wildly popular JIMMY RANTS live show that originated on Instagram Live and now resides at JimmyRants.com.

“Lots of people just said that I had a high metabolism, so I did the experiment again with 5000 calories of junk food to prove the difference in real food and junk food.”

    Sam Feltham Paid advertisement

Calories, calories, calories. It’s all we ever hear about when it comes to weight loss and health these days. All the so-called health experts say you just need to eat less calories in your diet and exercise off more calories through activity to create a calorie deficit and you’ll easily lose weight. It’s as simple as that. But is it really? Skepticism about the calories in, calories out hypothesis has been growing over the past few years, even amongst mainstream public health researchers at Harvard University. Health podcaster Jonathan Bailor will be releasing a book about this topic in December 2013 entitled The Calorie Myth: How to Eat More, Exercise Less, Lose Weight, and Live Better that will challenge everything we’ve always believed to be true about calories. But over in the UK, there’s a man who decided to take a different tactic in tackling the problem with obsessing about the quantity of calories while neglecting the quality of the calories you are consuming.

His name is Sam Feltham from “Smash The Fat” and he wanted to put this calorie thing to the ultimate test–he sacrificed himself for science to demonstrate the differences between calories consumed on a low-carb, high-fat diet vs. the calories from a low-fat, high-carb diet. In a pair of 21-day self-experiments conducted in May 2013 and then again in September 2013, Sam decided to consume a 5000+ calorie/day diet to see what would happen to his weight and measurements. Below you will see the final weigh-in results of each of these experiments to see a direct comparison of what happened:

Listen in as Jimmy and Sam talk about his work in the UK to educate the public there about fitness and nutrition, his concerns over the fallacies of the calorie hypothesis, why he decided to take it upon himself to test this theory on his naturally lean body, a comparison of the kind of foods he consumed during both of his experiments, the weight comparison following his isocaloric LCHF experiment and CARB experiment, whether he experienced any withdrawal symptoms after eating 5,000+ calories a day of sugary carbage, the conclusions he has drawn so far about calories after his first two experiments, his upcoming January 2014 experiment testing Dr. John McDougall’s starch-based diet, and so much more! If you’re still one of those people who thinks weight loss is all about the calories, then you gotta hear from this man who is showing us all just how bogus that really is.

1569: Does Being Fat And Obese Automatically Mean You’re Sick? Not Even Close! Nov 05, 2019

“You’re going to hear people make the connection between obesity and sickness. You can achieve good health markers while you still have excess weight on your body.”

    Jimmy Moore Paid advertisement

There is this concept being promoted by health professionals that being fat and obese means you are axiomatically and by default sick and diseased. This was most recently perpetuated in an interview of Dr. John McDougall that I parodied in a JIMMY RANTS BONUS episode you can see below.

Keto Clarity Author Jimmy Moore’s 2019 Dr. John McDougall “Interview”: https://youtu.be/c0NvYcEkQik

But does being fat mean you are automatically sick? Not a chance according to health podcaster and international bestselling author of KETO CLARITY Jimmy Moore who says you can have perfectly good metabolic health markers with weight on the body and you can be completely wrecked in your bloodwork while still being thin. Listen to Jimmy share more about how we culturally view people with extra weight unfairly in this episode.

1568: The Ironic Truth About All Of These Vegan Plant-Based ‘Burger’ Products Oct 31, 2019

“These companies are not stupid. They can make these burgers a whole lot cheaper than they can a cow burger. It’s just another example of food-like disease agents.”

    Jimmy Moore Paid advertisement

Many people who decide to embrace a vegetarian, vegan, plant-based diet do so on the basis that innocent animals are being harmed unnecessarily all to become food for humans and they think that’s wrong. So when these so-called veggie “burger” products like Beyond Meat and Impossible Burger created with all plant-friendly ingredients in them mimicking the look and taste of an animal-based beef burger (including using beet juice and other ingredients to mimic “blood” on the burger), it’s gotten pretty weird. Read about it in the article below.

Think That “Bleeding” Vegan Burger Is Super Healthy? Think Again: http://www.eatingwell.com/article/291777/think-that-bleeding-vegan-burger-is-super-healthy-think-again/

There is great irony in all of this to health podcaster and international bestselling author of KETO CLARITY Jimmy Moore who questions out loud why there is such a rush to have a recreation of a dead animal (blood and all!) if that is the very thing that is so abhorrent to someone in the plant-forward movement. Listen to see Jimmy’s reaction to these highly processed vegan burgers in this episode.
