    The Lindsey Elmore Show

    What changes us?

I’m Lindsey Elmore: pharmacist, educator, author, and speaker. For more than a decade I’ve helped people understand their health and make more informed decisions, on stages in about 35 countries and in hundreds of long-form conversations. I’m endlessly curious about what changes a life — what we learn, what we believe, what we survive, and what we choose to do next.

On this show I talk with physicians, researchers, authors, clinicians, and people whose experience has something to teach the rest of us. We get into medicine and pharmacology, mental wellness, hormones, longevity, and what the evidence actually says. We also get into the parts of life that no study fully explains: faith and doubt, grief, forgiveness, sobriety, the books that rearranged us, and the ordinary decisions that add up to a life.

My training taught me to examine evidence, ask precise questions, and respect how much there is still to learn. My own life has given me plenty of chances to practice that last part. So I read the research so you don’t have to, I ask the questions I’d want answered myself, and I come ready to be taught.
Hundreds of episodes in, the thread hasn’t changed: bigger questions, better conversations, and a willingness to reconsider what we thought we knew.

This show is for education. It isn’t medical advice, and it isn’t a substitute for care from your own clinician.

Engineering Your Microbiome Mini Episode | Ameet Aggarwal Jun 22, 2023
    Show notes

Welcome to this very special edition of The Lindsey Elmore Show. Do you feel like you've tried everything to lose weight, decrease stress, increase energy, and just feel better? Maybe it’s not your fault. It could be your microbiome. Your microbiome is connected to every single body system as well as your overall physical and mental wellness. Imbalance in the microbiome (dysbiosis) could be the cause of a slew of health issues that may surprise you. Contrary to popular belief, simply popping a probiotic supplement is not enough to support this intricate network that makes up the microbiome. The truth is, if you’re not engineering your microbiome, you’re leaving yourself vulnerable to an imbalance that can negatively affect your physical and mental health. Back in September of 2022, I hosted an event with over 40 experts who shared about the role of the microbiome in overall health and wellness. We are now sharing many of these interviews as a part of a podcast series. We’ll explore the ever-evolving science of the human microbiome and its impact on health. You’ll hear from experts about the latest research and how to apply this in your daily life. If you’ve struggled with health issues and feel like you are out of options, I encourage you to tune in as we investigate the complex interplay between nutrition, lifestyle and the microbiome, and discover new ways to engineer a healthier, happier life. From exploring cutting-edge treatments to learning about the power of probiotics, this special series of The Lindsey Elmore Show podcast is sure to open your eyes to the world of microbial engineering. Join Dr. Lindsey Elmore and learn how to engineer a healthy microbiome to prevent & reverse a variety of physical & mental illnesses. A graduate of the Yale University School of Medicine, she is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a fellow of the American College of Physicians, a diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine, and a former Instructor in Medicine at Harvard University. After struggling with IBS herself, Dr. Dawn Harris Sherling’s symptoms seemingly disappeared while in Italy. In an effort to help her patients and herself, Dr. Sherling began learning more about how food additives such as emulsifiers, thickeners, and stabilizers are wreaking havoc on our microbiomes and how eliminating them can reverse several diet-related diseases. Dr. Sherling currently sees patients at a clinic for the underserved in South Florida and teaches at the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University where she serves as Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program. Dawn Harris Sherling M.D., a graduate of the Yale University School of Medicine, former Instructor in Medicine at Harvard University, and board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, will release her latest book, “Eat Everything: How to Ditch Additives and Emulsifiers, Heal Your Body, and Reclaim the Joy of Food” on May, 2 via BenBella Books and Penguin Random House Distribution.
