Fragrances, Hormones & Small Steps to Non Toxic Living | Ep 167 Aug 17, 2021
    Show notes

A 2016 study found that more than 50% of the population said they’d prefer public spaces like offices, hotels, airplanes and healthcare facilities be fragrance-free. Despite this, fragrance use is ubiquitous: it’s found in everything from perfumes, beauty products, and cleaning supplies to plastics, paints, and disinfectants.

The problem with these synthetic and artificial fragrances is the health effects they can have on our bodies. Chemicals used to create or prolong these “fresh” scents often have deleterious effects on our health like neurological, metabolic, respiratory, and hormonal imbalances.

Today’s episode continues the summer series, answering your questions about hormones. Listen in as Erin gets into the nitty gritty answering your questions about fragrance effects on hormone health, and lays out what to be aware of in products we often use on our bodies or in our home. This is a topic everyone can benefit from because most people don’t even know how toxic synthetic fragrances are, nor how pervasive they are in products many of us use daily.

    In this episode:

-Small steps we can take to get closer to non toxic living [4:38]

    -Starting with the basics [6:56]

    -Fragrance and endocrine disruptors [8:11]

-“Overly sensitive” or canaries in the coalmine? [11:30]

-The real problem with fragranced products [17:16]

-Why and how synthetic fragrances linger [22:17]

-VOCs: what they are and common sources [23:36]

Imposter Syndrome: Are You Talking Yourself Out of Your Own Potential? | Ep 162 Jul 20, 2021
    Show notes

Have you ever felt imposter syndrome before? Put simply, it’s the feeling that you’re a fraud or that you don’t belong in a space where you are - even though you have legitimate skills and effort that got you there. We may struggle with imposter syndrome for many reasons: we’re trying something new, we’ve become the little fish in a big pond, or we just feel like a phony or a fraud when pursuing something we’re passionate about. We often talk ourselves out of the thing we want to do for fear of not being good enough, and we worry that we don't have what it takes. “Who am I to do this” stampedes its way through our brain at the WORST possible times. (Like at the exact moment we’re about to make a leap forward.)

In this episode, Erin highlights things to pay attention to in your life and questions to ask yourself when you experience this phenomenon. You’ll walk away with actionable steps for when you’re experiencing imposter syndrome, and what you can do to dig yourself out of it. We even created a companion guide you can download and fill out for yourself! Are you talking yourself out of your own potential? Tune into this episode to learn how to get your brain into a new mindset.

Mold, Lyme & Chronic Illness with Toréa Rodriguez, FDN-P | Ep 160 Jun 29, 2021
    Show notes

Today Erin welcomes back to the show Toréa Rodriguez, FDN-P to discuss not just mold, lyme, and chronic illness, but also how to navigate symptoms, testing, and communicating your illness to friends and family (especially if they don't understand). Chronic illness often carries a lot of stigma and can be called a "silent illness" because even though you may be dealing with health challenges on the inside, to the outside world, you may not look sick and "seem fine."

As someone who's struggled with chronic illness, Erin is all too familiar with this, which is why she continues to show up and speak out about these conditions. If you've ever been told it's all in your head, or struggled finding a diagnosis to symptoms you experience, this episode is for you. Erin and Toréa unpack all these things and explain how finding answers - and relief - to your symptoms can be totally navigable.

After completing her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry, Toréa has embodied transformation and self-discovery. She's worked at some of the leading dot-com Silicon Valley companies, has held executive positions and she used to be a professional pilot flying jets for private families & charter companies out of the San Francisco Bay Area. Her diagnosis of two debilitating autoimmune diseases brought her back to biochemistry, not only achieving full remission, but also certification as a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® Practitioner. During that time discovered her love of coaching.

Today, she coaches her clients through their own unique transformational experience that helps restore health, vitality and balance the immune system so that they can focus on their dreams without sacrificing their health.

    In this episode:

-If you've ever been called a hypochondriac... [3:34]

-Toréa’s background and why it's relevant to today's topic [8:46]

-The many factors that go into the root cause of chronic illness [12:48]

-The process of discovering mold as a root cause factor [14:52]

-Mold-xiety and the balancing act of being aware + trusting yourself [20:34]
