Episode 122 Dorcas Muhia (Dee) a mom of two children who shares her amazing intermittent fasting story. Losing 72 pounds (33 kg ) and finding great health. May 08, 2022
    Show notes

Hello my name is Dorcas Muhia, i like to go by Dee. Am 34 years old , born and raised in kenya until 2013 when i relocated to the USA. Am a nurse by profession here in Northern California and a blessed mommy to 2 beautiful children, a 16 months old son and a 12 year old step daughter. I love the outdoors activities like hike, go to the beach, travel, wine tasting and recently running after the weight loss.

Throughout my life I have always been on the heavy side. This didn't bother me at all in my childhood because coming from Africa, been chubby was a sign of good health and strength among the other children. Later on after pursuing a career in the health industry I saw the need to loose weight. I worked in a cardiac clinic back in 2010 and found it ironic to tell a patient to loose weight in order to control their diabetes or hypertension yet I was obese and saw decided to live by example. My heaviest at that time was around 200 lbs (90 kg) at only 22 years of age. I cut down on fried foods and carbohydrates and walked alot which helped me reduce to 180 -170 lbs (81-77 kg). It was such a huge achieving for me to see the scale go down as opposed to what i was used to my entire life.

Episode 121 Jeanette Brovold a retired bank managers amazing first year of an Intermittent fasting Journey. Losing over 70 pounds along the way. May 01, 2022
    Show notes

Jeanette Brovold Bio. I am 58 years old, 5’6” Retired in October 2020 from 31 years as a Bank Manager Live in beautiful Port Dover Ontario with my amazing husband Keith and my jack russell dog Abbie SW 240 lbs February 2, 2021where I started a diet where you count calories On March 23 2021 down 6 pounds I came to realize I wouldn’t be able to sustain this lifestyle and started IF CW 162 lbs GW ?? maybe 150 lbs Weight has always been an issue for me for as long as I can remember and like most have tried all the diets. I have successfully lost the weight several times to put it right back on, never made it to maintenance as always thought I can do this on my own as usually was tired of spending the money. I have always loved sports, I love to walk, I have done a marathon, 1/2 marathons, did a 220 km bike ride over 2 days for charity, however my weight caused me to have sore knees, back, hip and even had planters fasciitis more than once and eventually gave up all of that as it was just too hard on me and continued to gain weight. I almost gave up on myself and accept that I was going to be this obese sad person until the day I found IF, it will be a day I will never forget. My why? In 2019 started not feeling well, was having hard time focusing, lots of headaches, pains in side of my head, ringing in my ears and no energy. Went for many tests to find nothing wrong with me and I figured I would just have to live with it. My biggest thing is that my mom is in the last stages of Alzheimer’s and there is some science behind that IF can help, prevent or slow down the process and if that is possible why wouldn’t I try to prevent this from happening Jeanette

Episode 120 Colleen and Jeremy A couple who fast together with considerable success. Apr 24, 2022
    Show notes

    Colleen:

Weight was never an issue for me. Everyone in my family was slim and I was a pretty small child. At one point my pediatrician told my mom that I was too small. It wasn’t until around 2013 that I slowly began adding weight on. I have never been someone who weighs every day, but I began to notice that every season I’d have to buy bigger clothes. I could tell I was getting bigger and I didn’t like to look in the mirror or have my picture taken but that was never really enough motivation to do anything about it.

Then in June 2020 Jeremy’s younger brother, Jason, died unexpectedly from a massive heart attack. That was the wakeup call we needed to get our lives back in order. We had a young toddler and knew we had to find a way to lose weight and get healthy for her.

I was 244 pounds when we started. My results were immediate, I lost 20 pounds in the first month of fasting. I was down to 186 pounds by April 2021.

    Jeremy:

I was born into an obese family. “The Bryant’s are big people” is a line I’ve heard many times over the years. I had two brothers who looked like the other Bryant’s but I was thin and “scrawny.” My entire childhood, I felt left out and always wanted to be the size of the other Bryant’s. It wasn’t until my metabolism slowed down after high school that I put on a bunch of weight and became obese. I loved it.

When I was 24 and, in the Army, I weighed 260 and was 50 pounds heavier than the maximum weight the Army would allow someone of my height. I was given an ultimatum: lose the weight and keep it off or leave the Army. I lost 50 pounds by cutting calories and eating 3 meals with snacks between, and exercising. I quickly gained back all of those 50 pounds. Instead of trying to lose the weight again, I chose to leave the Army early.

For the next 20 years, I never got below 280, maxing out at 308. Whenever I would get past 300, I would buckle down and lose 20 pounds or so, only to gain it back. More in the episode.

Episode 119 Mac Mckew A former baseball coach turned umpire recounts his amazing health transformation journey. Apr 17, 2022
    Show notes

Name: Mac McKew Home: Portland, Maine USA Age: 62 (November 6, 1959) Height: 6’ 1” Current Weight: 170 lbs. I am a 62 year-old business professional, former high school baseball coach and current high school & college baseball umpire. In October of 2019, one month shy of my 60thbirthday, I had hip replacement surgery. At the time of my surgery I weighed 215 lbs. The typical recovery from hip replacement surgery is three months until you are back to about 85% and then another nine months (one year from the surgery) until you are back to the point of “as good as it will be.” The holidays of 2019 followed my hip surgery where my mobility was limited, but my appetite for holiday food was not. On January 1st of 2020, I weighed in at 230 lbs. Not long after that the pandemic known as COVID-19 arrived in the United States. I believed there would be one of two responses to the pandemic with many businesses (including gyms) shutting down and people working remotely. One response would be to fall into a state of depression, feel sorry for myself and eat junk food for my medication…or, a second response, use the pandemic to inspire myself to get after it and develop good habits. Thank God I chose the latter. My wife and I put together a home gym in our basement with equipment like kettlebells, bands and TRX straps. We created a three day on - one day off workout plan. It was great; however the nutrition piece was still missing. In late February I purchased the book Atomic Habits by James Clear. The book was a gamechanger for me in many ways. One of them was the authors use of intermittent fasting. I had first heard of IF when I was with a couple of my assistant coaches a few years ago, and we went out to breakfast together. We sat down to order breakfast and when one of them only ordered black coffee; I asked if that is all he wanted? I was then introduced to IF; frankly I thought he was wacky. Little did I know then that intermittent fasting was going to be my nutritional gamechanger. I really started applying it in March of 2020. I weighed 225 lbs. On June 13th I weighed in at 193 lbs. and on September 24th the scale read 172 lbs.

Episode 118 Lori Morton A 64 year old women who has lost 58 pounds (22.6) living an intermittent fasting lifestyle. Apr 10, 2022
    Show notes

    Lori Morton Biography

I’m a daughter, sister, aunt, and dog mom. My struggle with weight began in middle school. Fast food, candy, and desserts were my downfall. After graduating college I accepted a position as a 5th grade teacher. Teaching and careers in education are rewarding, but also are stressful. I responded to the stress by eating and as a result my battle with weight grew over the years. I happily retired in 2015 from my last position as an elementary school principal. After retiring, I was determined to lose the weight I gained over my 30 years in education.

Losing close family members to Diabetes, Dementia, and Sarcoidosis has been the catalyst for my weight loss and fitness journey. My older brother who had type 1 diabetes since the age of 13 died at the age of 52 from colon cancer. The death of my younger, seemingly fit and healthy 47 year old sister was a wake up call. Also, watching my mother slowly deteriorate from Alzheimer’s disease added to my trauma. She died two years after my sister. To make sure I was there for my family and my sister’s children in particular, I rejoined WW in 2016 and followed the program successfully for several years, but was frustrated that I couldn’t get past a plateau that lasted about 1 ½ years. During that time I was yo-yoing up and down 10-15 pounds.

From the beginning of the pandemic February 2020 to April 2021 I gained an additional 35 pounds. That’s when I decided to get back on track. After resetting, I lost only a few pounds before my weight seemed to hit a plateau again. I was worried that I had a problem with my metabolism. My frustration led me to research other ways to lose weight. More in the episode.

Episode 115 Sarah Kull- We talk Type 2 Diabetes and how intermittent fasting can help. A fascinating insight into some amazing patient case studies. Mar 20, 2022
    Show notes

Sarah Kull is a New Zealand Registered Nurse. She has been working with intermittent fasting for many of her clients since early 2018, in particular, to support those with Type 2 Diabetes or obesity related health concerns.

Sarah has been working in General Practice for over 18 years and as such has a background in chronic care management and diabetes as well as the many health risks associated with obesity. With a growing epidemic of type 2 diabetes and obesity related health issues in NZ, Sarah was looking at alternatives to the old “calories in vs calories out” advice that has not made an impact on global health since its inception. She came across the work of Dr Jason Fung, a Canadian nephrologist and world leading expert on intermittent fasting for type 2 diabetics. Having been taught throughout her career that type 2 diabetes is a long term, chronic disease that worsens with time, the results from Dr Fung’s work was phenomenal. Sarah went on to look at intermittent fasting as a solution to New Zealand’s growing crisis and so spent time researching and learning about fasting as an option in her work.

Now with over 4years experience in working with clients and intermittent fasting, Sarah not only has a fantastic knowledge base on IF, but she also has some phenomenal and life changing stories and case studies to show the incredible health benefits that come with IF. From complete reversal of type 2 diabetes, dramatic weight loss, improvement in fatty liver and blood pressure to improved sleep, wellbeing and energy the results speak for themselves.

Sarah continues to work in a couple of clinics in South Auckland supporting many patients to start their IF journey and improve their health outcomes. She also runs a Facebook group with over 6000 members and growing daily as well as running courses for fasting education and support for the general public as well as seeing private clients.

In her spare time, Sarah enjoys Pilates, horse riding and is the CEO for a medical charity in her local community and of course, she practices intermittent fasting! Sarah has two young children and enjoys camping and spending time with friends and family.

Episode 114 Trevor Karlowsky An inspiring intermittent fasting journey. Dealing with shift work and fasting a fascinating insight. Mental health benefits of fasting. Mar 13, 2022
    Show notes

I live in Niverville, Manitoba, Canada which is around a ½ hour drive south from Winnipeg. I am turning 50 soon. I am a single dad of two girls – Ashley (20) and Samantha (16). I have lost weight 3 times in my life before I tried intermittent fasting. Right after high school I lost around 20 pounds and quickly gained it back. At 30 years old I lost around 50 pounds and kept it off for about a year. At 40 years old I lost around 75 pounds and kept it off for about 5 years. Even though each time I became more successful in maintaining the weight loss for longer, maintaining has been my biggest battle. Each time I had success in weight loss in the past it was from a low-calorie diet and exercise.

In 2016 - 2021 I slowly gained my weight back. I tried many times to get back on track but was unable due to many stresses I was struggling with. During this time, I missed work for over half a year and wasn’t mentally able to return to my regular shift work position until February 2020. I was convinced that I would be able to maintain my weight and health for the rest of my life and felt like a failure when I gained a lot of it back. To be honest that period in my life with stress and mental struggles were just too overwhelming. I had the most incredible support team during this time. My girlfriend, mom, dad, sister, daughters, friends, co-workers, employer, and just simply time have allowed me to re-build and be able to focus again on my health. So, I attempted to try a 4th time to lose weight with the addition of the fear of not being able to maintain it. Episode 113 Jacqui McCoy An incredible weight loss journey. A realty tv show contestant and finding intermittent fasting, Mar 06, 2022
    Show notes

Jacqui is from sunny south Florida, has been married 17 years and is currently a stay at home mom to three young daughters. Jacqui was put on her first diet by a doctor at 11 years old. This started a life long battle of weight. Decades on and off diets all while gaining more and more weight while losing self esteem and confidence. In 2010 she thought she found the answer to health and happiness when she was cast on a weight loss reality show. While she did lose a great deal of weight on the show, it was by over exercising and severely limiting calories. This did lead to a smaller body but keeping it off was a daily challenge and she did not feel her best. She was continually in a binge/restrict cycle which took it’s toll mentally and physically. She knew there had to be something more to the puzzle. She spent the next years of her life trying to figure out true health. This journey led her to Intermittent Fasting.
