Episode 140 Tracey Dixon Neale A tale of resilience and true dedication losing the first 43 kg (95 pounds}. We check back in from episode 25 where is Tracey now. Sep 11, 2022
    Show notes

Tracey Dixon-Neale is a 43-year-old Mum of 4 living in the small farming community of Onewhero in the Waikato region of the North Island of New Zealand. As an 11-year-old girl Tracey was sexually assaulted by a family friend which was prolonged by a yearlong court case. In the following years her stepmother left her and her father, she dropped out of high school and eventually moved in with her mother.

As her weight started to climb her mother suggested trying the diet pill Duromine. After some time on diet pills, Tracey was offered Speed and Methamphetamine. This eventually spiraled out of control and led to a crippling addiction which spanned over the course of a few years. With the love and support of her now husband Tracey got clean and has remained clean for over 19 years. Shortly after getting back on track Tracey became pregnant with her first child. Two weeks after finding out she was pregnant her father was diagnosed with terminal Cancer. After nursing her father and best friend through his illness and following his death her weight started to climb again. After two more children, enduring the loss of two babies and welcoming her fourth and final child, Tracey's weight was at an all-time high of 115kgs. (253 pounds)

At a Doctor's appointment her general practitioner suggested she try Intermittent Fasting. She went home, googled Intermittent Fasting and started that night. In the two and a half years since then she has not missed a single fast and so far, has managed to lose over 43kg. (95 pounds)

Tracey has gone from having a self-proclaimed 'allergy to exercise' to joining the gym as a reward for losing her first 40kg. She now enjoys daily cardio on the cross trainer/elliptical machine and daily weight/strength training. She is also a moderator on The Fasting Highway.

Tracey's relationship with food has completely changed over the past two and a half years although she still remains a passionate Cook and Baker. She is focused and determined that she will happily remain a Faster for the rest of her life and help educate as many people as she can along the way.

Episode 137 Candice Fletcher Roberts A second attempt at IF making it sustainable with a renewed mindset and determination. Aug 21, 2022
    Show notes

I’m Candice, 41 year wife, Mom and working part time outside of the home. We are an Air Force family nearing military retirement with 3 kids. Our eldest son is 23 currently serving in the Florida National Guard, a 16 year old son and our youngest daughter is 9.I started my IF journey the summer of 2018 when we were stationed in Illinois. I originally started the process of getting weight loss surgery at the beginning of that year. Before I hit my “that’s it” wall…. I really had accepted that I would just be overweight the rest of my life and ignored it.I had not struggled with my weight or any body image issues when I was younger/school age. I was probably 125/ 130lbs in High School. I don’t even think we had a scale. Maybe I tried the subway diet to drop a few lbs at some point lol. It was never something I really worried about. I wasn’t super athletic but I did play sports.

My husband and I had our son earlier than we would’ve planned. So I was a young Mom at 18. After the birth of my first son I gained allot of weight rather quickly (like 80lbs). It never even crossed my mind during pregnancy that weight would even be an issue. My Mom had always been in amazing shape and the women in my family were small for the most part. Same on my Dad’s side. I personally believe it had allot to do with my hormones. I had really never had any breakout/acne before but my skin went crazy with painful cystic acne at that time too. It definitely had a negative emotional effect on me. I ended up doing a round of medication/acutane and it cleared up my skin issues for the most part. My weight continued to start to climb from there over the years.

More of Candice and her inspiring story in the episode.

Episode 136 Jenni Warren-Zielke An inspiring intermittent fasting story, over coming sensitivities and food addiction. Aug 14, 2022
    Show notes

Jenni Zielke, 61, lives in Green Valley, Arizona, in the United States, about 30 miles from the Mexican border with her husband Larry. Jenni and her husband are originally from Wisconsin and only moved to Arizona in 2019, where they are partially retired. Jenni’s career in Human Resources for manufacturing plants has meant working intimately with other people and their careers. This has been both a blessing and a curse, as Jenni navigated her own journey as a Highly Sensitive Person in a leadership role.

Being partially retired, Jenni had more time on her hands, when she could eat more and become unhealthier, or find a new life. The new life she found is IF. Jenni was diagnosed 10 years ago with: T2D, Non-Alcoholic-Fatty-Liver, high BP, and diverticulosis. She also had intense joint pain in her feet, knees, hips, and neck.

Jenni has been overweight since puberty. She remembers at 12 years old, seeing the boys wrestling team’s weights posted in the hallway at school. This was the first time she realized her weight was way higher than the highest weighted boys older than her. Since then, Jenni continually gained weight up to her highest of 247 lbs/112 kgs. As a child, Jenni was often reminded she was overly sensitive, which she grew up believing was a character flaw. It is only through IF, that Jenni was able to fully appreciate her people-pleasing sensitivities were literally feeding her food addiction. Most importantly, The Fasting Highway has provided Jenni the tools to appreciate the blessings of being a highly sensitive person. With the help of TFH, Jenni is finally able to be sensitive to her own emotional needs. Jenni refers to herself as a recovering people-pleaser and works daily to keep her emotions separate from her food relationship. Jenni has found a supportive home in TFH group, along with new daily practices to support her new life as an IF’er.

Episode 135 Karen Giacalone overcoming health issues and living a successful intermittent fasting lifestyle .A story of resilience and determination. Aug 07, 2022
    Show notes

I’m a happily retired wife, mom of 3 adult children, pet mom, and volunteer. Over the years I’ve been a mental health case worker, special Ed teacher, stay at home mom, preschool teacher, and child protection case worker. I’m 60 years old, and have been clean fasting since 9/12/19. I reached my goal of losing 22 lbs in 11 months, and have been in maintenance mode for over a year and a half. My weight was fairly stable for most of my life, with a few predictable exceptions, like the freshman-15 and the child bearing years. I’ve always been active, and never really dieted until after my third child was born in 1994. I resolved to lose the baby weight once and for all, and achieved that goal within 6 months thorough an extreme low fat diet and over-exercising. Living that way was not sustainable for me however, and certainly not healthy. I eventually abandoned that way of life, and managed to remain at a healthy weight through consistent exercise and always watching what I ate. In 2003, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease. Along with many debilitating symptoms, my weight slowly began to creep up. The thyroid medication I was prescribed helped only minimally, and I continued to struggle with symptoms for over 10 years. In 2013, following a cross country move, my health crashed completely. I was in constant pain, had zero energy, and could barely function. I worked my way through several doctors before discovering functional medicine, and that was when my true healing journey began. Fortunately, I was able to make great strides in my health through a functional approach, because in 2017 we made another cross country move, and shortly thereafter my husband was diagnosed with lymphoma. Had I not regained my strength as much as I had before the move, I’m not sure how I would have made it through that very difficult time. More in the episode. The Fasting Highway

Episode 134 Florence Valladares A mother of four children who shares her inspiring intermittent fasting journey releasing 70 pounds (34Kg) healing her relationship with food. Jul 31, 2022
    Show notes

Florence lives in LA with her husband and 4 children. She's from the UK, but was partly raised in Spain where she met her husband who is Peruvian. Florence trained as an opera singer, and now is the Publisher and Co-Founder of an arts and culture magazine in LA.

In common with many IFers, Florence has struggled with her weight since she was a child/pre-teen and spent all of her adult years trying different diets and ‘lifestyle changes’. After each baby she would retain most of the pregnancy weight and even gain more in the first year postpartum! After baby number 4 in 2018 she reached her highest weight and after a lifetime fighting with food and dieting, assumed she just had to accept it.

Then Covid-19 hit. Florence got some sort of respiratory infection in April 2020, which may or may not have been Covid, but it suddenly became clear to her that she wasn’t going to allow her kids to become motherless from only one pre-existing condition - being obese.

Florence had dabbled in IF for a month the previous summer to ‘lose some weight’ before a trip to visit family because she was ashamed of how overweight she was. But after the trip the pressure was off, then the holidays came, and IF went by the wayside. With the sudden impetus to live to see her kids grown, Florence started her IF journey in earnest in June 2020 and has never looked back. She will never go back to what she now refers to as ‘poisoning herself with food’.

Florence originally found IF from a random comment from a friend. It had sounded completely bizarre to her, but she’d looked it up at some point later and joined Gin Stephens’ facebook group. From here she found The Fasting Highway and Graeme’s supportive community. Being on this sudden determined mission of health in 2020, she jumped straight into OMAD and thanks to the clean fast, found it easy enough. From here she has tried many different protocols, released 70lbs, become a daily runner, tapped into appetite correction, healed her relationship with food, and has settled into an intuitive flexibility with her IF.

I said, I am just not going to eat. That same day, I went to a thrift store, and found the book “A Guide to Intermittent Fasting, by Dr. Jason Fung” I knew about fasting in the past, as I had heard about it. I said why not, as I am not eating anyways. From that point forward, I learned everything I could about fasting.

From July 2019 to Dec 2019 I dropped over 60lbs. Today I have dropped a total of 85lbs from my fasting starting date. My highest weight was November 2008, I was at 317lbs! I have struggled with being overweight my entire life.
