Episode 102 - Diana Stephens- A story of survival and living a successful intermittent fasting lifestyle losing 15 Kg 32 pounds in six months, Dec 19, 2021
    Show notes

My name is Diana Stephens and I'm a mother of two teenage girls. I've been married to my husband for 19 years. We live in a small town in Manitoba, about ten miles from the USA border. I've been a Registered Nurse for 25 years. I work part time in a personal care home as well as have my own mobile foot care business. I have been overweight much of my life. I've tried exercise and watching what I eat and have had success, only to let the food addiction take over once again. I've had a hard time keeping the weight off! I was diagnosed with leukemia in 2014. I had Chemo and eventually a stem cell transplant in April 2015. I lost around14kg ( 30lbs) at the time. I was put on hormone replacement therapy for chemo induced menopause, which possibly caused blood clots in both lungs. I was off work for three years. I've been doing very well since my transplant but my motto of "life is short, eat the cake" caught up to me. I had foot pain, back pain and was short of breath with little exertion and was at my highest weight of 252lbs ( I am 5"9 tall ). I also had high blood pressure. My inside voice was not kind, especially in front of a mirror or even sitting in a chair. I saw Greg Curries post on Facebook about his weight loss success and I connected with him. He suggested reading The Fasting Highway and I started 16:8 right after that. I have always been a strict 3 meals a day type person and if someone would have told me that I would be skipping breakfast everyday I would have told them they were nuts!! Here I am feeling so much better! I am off blood pressure meds, I've got more energy and a much more positive mind set. I have lost 32lbs in 6 months with the help of Intermittent Fasting and cardio. I am looking forward to the rest of the journey. News. My book about my own story The Fasting Highway is available on Amazon in both paperback and kindle. For Australian and New Zealand residents, you can buy the book direct from me at www.thefastinghighway.com. For the rest of the world Amazon is your best option. Episode 101, Carmen Brown- Over 500 fasts a fantastic insight into a living a sustainable IF lifestyle longer term. Dec 12, 2021
    Show notes

I am a homeschooling mother of 3 who also teaches private voice lessons and directs musical theater for students in middle school and high school and I have a very supportive husband in all of that! We enjoy the beautiful outdoors in Colorado! We enjoy camping as well and hiking, paddle boarding and kayaking. Fasting has given me the freedom and the energy to finally truly enjoy these things with my family! I have fasted in the past. It actually helped me to lose weight in the past but I didn't know why or if it was really working because I was also training for a triathlon at the same time, in 2012, after having my 3rd child. I am not an athlete but I was trying to find acceptance in my body and prove that I could do something athletic! Unfortunately, this change didn't last long and I gained my weight back and kept it on for 8 more years! In June of 2020 I was ready for a change! I was tired of being tired and overweight. But I had sworn off diets and did not know what to do. That is when Delay, Don't Deny came into my life through my dear friend. I read that book in one sitting on June 20 and started that day! My first fast was 18 hours and I have been fasting at least 16 hours, but mostly 18-20 hours for 470 fasts now, I am closing in on 500 fasts! I have lost 30 pounds and kept it off! And I keep losing inches! I was in a tight plus sized 18W jean and am now in a regular size 14 jean. And I wore plus sized 1X shirts and now wear a Small or Medium.

    Sincerely,
    Carmen Brown

Episode 99 Paulus Van Eeeden losing 38 kg (83 pounds ) with a 13-11 fasting protocol eating two meals a day. Nov 28, 2021
    Show notes

Paulus van Eeden is a Colonel in the South African Police Service. He was born in Durban ON 11 February 1971, he is 50 years old and grew up in Gauteng where he is currently also residing and working. He enjoys nature and goes camping when there is time to relax in his busy schedule. He is married with two daughters, one is 3RD year at university and the other is in grade 9.

During the nineties he was very active and participated in cycling as a sport. He also become a cycling “spinning” instructor. As life continued from 2014 he slowly had fallen into a pattern of eating the wrong food especially treats and fast foods. Gradually he gained weight until he weighed 125 kg due to long working hours in the Law Enforcement environment. In September 2020 he decided to make and change and be healthy before his 50th birthday in February 2021. The birthday went pass and he carried on with his life and bad eating habits. He was also having constant heartburn as a result of being overweight. By that time still weighing 122kg.

His blood pressure was high as well as cholesterol levels. He started getting blackouts due to high blood pressure and ended up in hospital. In hospital the final decision was made to take control again of his eating habits. A few weeks later a friend told him about intermitted fasting and he joined the fasting highway Facebook page and started following the 13/11 fasting routine. He has been on the 13/11 fasting plan since April 2021. The journey require discipline every day to make the correct food choices.

He was inspired by those who shared their fasting success stories on the Fasting highway as well as other wellness Facebook pages. The main inspiration was to take back control of his health and correct the high blood pressure and cholesterol with weight reduction and not medication. Since he lost weight his blood pressure returned to normal as well as normal cholesterol levels. The constant heart burn is also gone. Energy levels improved.

His fasting routine include a small breakfast with oats or similar and a fruit. During fasting only water. Dinner consists of protein, starch and vegetables / salad. Sugar, alcohol and snacks were eliminated from his diet as well as coffee due to high blood pressure.

On weekends if there is a social event he adjust the plan to have a bigger breakfast or change breakfast for lunch. He monitors his weight constantly and if he see there is an increase (for example when the family goes on holiday and eat special treats) he goes back to the strict intermitted fasting plan to reduce weight.

His weight loss statistics are as follow:

    SW 125kg

    CW 93

GW between 92 and 88 Kg

    Age 50

    Height 193 cms

Episode 98 Neva Warnock Losing over 36 kg (80 Pounds ) inside a year living an intermittent fasting lifestyle. Nov 21, 2021
    Show notes

Neva is a realtor in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Her weight got to the point where, in July of 2020, she seriously wondered if she could handle showings houses in 100 degree summer temps that are typical of the area. As Neva describes it, "We run into houses, up the stairs, down and out, and on to the next one. The stairs were the killer. I was worried. And the work really only starts with the showings - then you run home and start writing the contract paperwork. My brain had to be online." Neva is a fiend for architecture, to the point that she got the Historic Homes Specialist certificate. From the modest mid-century ranch homes, to the full-fledged Mid-Century Moderns, to Craftsman Bungalows, to Victorian Painted Ladies, it's a passion of hers. Before getting into real estate, Neva was a techie in the corporate world, and she says those skills come in handy. She says Excel is her favorite "game." Perhaps that explains her love of entering the numbers into ALL the apps AND her own spreadsheet. But she owns to a good bit of OCD too. A self-avowed recovering crazy cat woman, at one time Neva cared for dozens of cats, and was active in pet rescue. Now the number approaches something more normal, and vet bills are more manageable. She still points people towards resources, and fields random questions about cat behavior. Scratching posts need to be *where??* When she comes up for air, Neva does enameling as a hobby and has a kiln and a hydraulic press as part of her setup. And then there's music: Neva is avid about live music - bluegrass, rockabilly, blues, jazz, classical. She worked at a club near Washington, DC in her youth. She's looking forward to more energy for all of these activities from her success with IF.

Episode 97 Lisa Davey Finding relief from Asthma while living an intermittent fasting lifestyle. Nov 14, 2021
    Show notes

My name is Lisa Davey. I am from Cedarville Ohio. My husband & I have 2 grown adult sons 34 & 29. We have been blessed with 2 beautiful daughter in law's and our first grandson. I own my own small business. I handcraft organic & vegan bath and body products.

I am 56 years old, prior to my 40's my weight management journey was very good. I have always been a very active person and work out 6 days a week for as long as I can remember. Once I hit my forties things began to change and my weight started to creep up.

A friend invited me to join Weight Watcher's in 2004. I thought it couldn't hurt so why not. I was successful in loosing 20 pounds with the program and kept the weight off until 2017.

It was then that I had my fill of counting points with their program and writing down everything I ate. Years of that kind of dieting took its toll on me as far as enjoying the lifestyle and my mindset. It was a daily chore to constantly figure out what I was going to eat.

I gave up Weight Watcher's and continued to exercise and eat as healthy as possible. As I entered my 50's everything changed once again. Menopause hit and one more time the weight began to creep on. It was in 2011 that I was diagnosed with Asthma. I then began my journey into finding out what the triggers were when I had frequent asthma attacks.

I was put on twice daily prescribed medicine. I kept thinking there has to be a natural way to reduce symptoms or rid them all together. Fast forward to March 2021. I was researching ways to help asthma. I stumbled across intermittent fasting.

There were a few examples of IF helping reduce inflammation in the lungs and asthma symptoms. I decided to give it a try.

I started out 16/8 although not clean fasting and after a few weeks went to 18/6 and then on to 20/4. During the first few weeks I came across Gin Stephens book Fast Feast Repeat and read about clean fasting. That was a game changer for me. My protocol varies from day to day and my body responds well. I have reduced my asthma medication by almost 100%.

I have experienced many NSV's along with an 18 pound weight loss and an exciting body recomposition. I am not sure if I have decided I am at goal. I'm giving it a little more time to see what my body will do.

While listening to Gin's podcast I heard Graeme's interview and immediately joined the fb group. There is something about Graeme that drew me in. I heard him mention his book "The Fasting Highway" on this podcast. I ordered it and have read it through twice with more rereads to come.

It was Graeme's book that gave me the final push and realized IF is more than just weight loss

Episode 96 Marcy Lemasters Finding her way to "The Fasting Highway" a life long yo dieter's success with intermittent fasting. Nov 07, 2021
    Show notes

My name is Marcy Lemasters. I’m from Middletown, Missouri where i live with my husband of 33 years. I have two adult boys age 31 and 21. My dieting journey began basically from birth. I jokingly say, “If anyone has an excuse to be overweight, It’s me. I was born overweight.” I weighed in at 11 lbs. 10 oz when I was born in 1969. I’m the youngest of 4 children. My mom was diabetic during her pregnancy with me and each child had just gotten bigger and bigger. The first diet I ever remember being on was the summer of 1986, between my junior and senior years in high school. I’m 5’4” and weighed 150 lbs then. I got down to around 120 once I started college, by just eating frozen yogurt, granola bars and Diet Soda. From then on, I was on a roller coaster of dieting my entire life. I didn’t discover Intermittent Fasting until a few years ago. I had fasted off and on before this, but only for religious reasons. The most drastic was probably 19 years ago, when I fasted for 25 days and only ate one meal a day, which was a very small meal and I lost 25 pounds in 25 days. After that I went right back to regular eating and my weight was up and down. I tried Keto 3 times, for 3 months each time, but hated it. 167 pounds was the highest weight I got. I counted calories and started running in January of 2015. That got me down to 109 at my smallest. Due to injuries, I could no longer run, so my weight crept back up to 162. Since starting IF this year on June 10th, I’ve lost 21 lbs. I’ve been plateaued for a month, but my entire attitude has changed and I plan to be IF for life. I love it!

Episode 95 Margret Saemundsdottir A 30 year old mum of three from Iceland who lost a staggering 60kg (132pounds) inside a year Oct 31, 2021
    Show notes

I’m Margrèt I’m 30 years old I’m from Iceland but live in Ireland with my Irish partner and 3

small kids! I work as a makeup artist. Ive always struggled with my weight since I was about 12-13 years old…I’ve always been starting or coming off a diet! I’ve done it all! I’ve counted calories..I’ve done the replacement shakes.. I used a food delivery service… I did keto for a while that did work for a bit but I had a bit too much fun with the stevia chocolate! And was eating all day hence I only lost a little bit of weight!

I first heard about fasting from a good friend of mine. She lost 18kg and I honestly didn’t buy into fasting then it all sounded too simple to be honest.. didn’t get how eating in a smaller time frame would help me loose weight! But then this was the one thing I hadn’t tried! Why not try this! I started with 18:6 and started loosing weight straight away! I was so surprised that this was actually working so I decided to do more research on this and a whole world just opened up to me! I found the IF story’s podcast from Gin Stephens and there I learned about the clean fast and how important it is long term and read her book and became part of her Facebook page and then your page and honestly being active in those groups has kept me going! I started my journey in the first lockdown August 2020 and I was just after having my 3rd baby in 3 years and I was morbidly obese

    SW 135kg 298lbs

    CW 75kg 165lbs

    GW 75kg 165lbs

    I’m 175cm 5’9

I’m someone who’s always been overweight and have yo-yo’d from being overweight to obese and then morbidity obese. I’ve never been at a happy weight… until now!!

I did 18:6 at the start did that for good 5-6 months and then that evolved into 20:4 I reached my goal weight in August 2021 so 1 year I managed to do this!

IF has been unbelievable healing process for me.. when I started fasting it’s like something was finally plugged in! I finally understood my body! And I was finally able to listen to my body.. where as before it’s been a constant battle and a real disconnect between me and my body! Now there’s a great connection and almost like a spiritual awakening! I sound like a right hippie now ! Haha! But with every fast it’s like my body says ahh thank you! I needed that rest from digestion!

Episode 94 Chip Bennett A very near miss with diabetes. Finding his way to intermittent fasting and losing over 100 pounds (45Kg) Oct 24, 2021
    Show notes

"Chip is from Avon, Indiana, USA, 44 years old, and 6'2" (188 cm) tall. He is married and the father of two, teen-aged girls. He has always been a healthy person but has struggled with weight since elementary school. After the low-fat, eat-less-move-more 80s and 90s, Chip weighed over 270 lbs (123 Kg) in high school and college. He discovered Atkins and ketogenic diets his senior year of college and lost 80 lbs (36 Kg), reaching a weight of 197 lbs (90 Kg). Despite generally following keto, with age and time, he slowly put on weight through his 20s and 30s. In his 30s he was diagnosed with gout, and in his 40s he was diagnosed with pre-diabetes. During the Covid19 pandemic, he was nearly diagnosed as diabetic and reached his highest weight, 294 lbs (134 Kg) in July 2020. Refusing to go down the diabetes road, Chip realized he needed to make several lifestyle changes to address the insulin resistance and systemic inflammation at the root of all of his metabolic syndrome-related issues. Through those changes, including adopting intermittent fasting, he reversed both the onset of diabetes and the gout from which he had suffered for over a decade. Additionally, he lost over 100 lbs (45 Kg), and is currently 192 lbs (87 Kg).

Episode 93 Lexi Waters (momfasting on IG and you tube ) A very inspiring intermittent fasting story from a mom of four boys. Oct 17, 2021
    Show notes

    By Lexi Waters

I was born and raised in Northern California. I attended BYU in Utah and met my husband after graduating and moving back to California. We have moved around a bit, and now have recently landed in the Boise, Idaho area. I have 4 boys, ages 5,9,12, and 14. I started homeschooling in 2016 and I love it.

I never struggled with weight as a child, and not even as a young adult. But after I got married and quickly started to have children, the weight started to creep on. I would lose it, gain it back in the next pregnancy, and then repeat the cycle, adding a little bit more onto my baseline each time. I felt sluggish, always in a brain fog, and stuck in a perpetual cycle of over-restriction and lack of control. I definitely came to a point of helplessness where I felt that my only options were to succumb to a life of perpetual weight gain and increasing health issues, or to be so strict and rigid to always deny myself the foods that I enjoyed.

I found some success on the keto diet, but it was still a lot of back and forth, on and off, gaining and losing for me. Through keto I discovered intermittent fasting, and some other influencers that helped me to steer toward that path. After an experience of re-gaining weight I had lost very quickly once again, I decided to commit to intermittent fasting and make it work. At first I struggled to find a daily window that worked for me (also not clean fasting). Then I decided to commit to ADF for 6 months, doing the 4:3 method, where I fast MWF, eat Sun, Tues,Thurs, Sat. I ended up loving it and continuing past the 6 months. I lost 35 lbs (16 kilos) in 9 months, going from 209 lbs (94 kilos) to 174 lbs (78 kilos). At the end of 2020 I re-gained a little bit and my body has been a bit stubborn about getting it back off, but I have maintained at least a 25 lb (11 kilo) loss since then. I am okay with it taking a while to get back to goal weight, because this is a lifestyle in which I feel at peace with food and in control of myself, and I’m pretty sure I’ll do it forever!
