My Top 5 Favorite Business Books of the Year Dec 22, 2021
    Show notes

Why you need to read the best business books of the year EACH year

Raise your hand if you've been looking forward to this podcast episode on the best business books of the year…ALL year!? Well, that makes two of us, friend, because I have a craaaaaaaaaaaaaazy obsession with books. Truth be told, however, I haven't always been this way. Picture this: an English teacher who doesn't love to read! Well, that WAS me. Or, at least, I thought it was. Turns out, it wasn't that I didn't like to read, but rather I just didn't have the time. Then, a year before I left the classroom, I had a required reading assignment for my specialist degree and – in typically Kayse fashion – I waited until the last minute to do it. To solve my procrastination, I used Audible. And that was the book (and service) that changed everything. Of course, the must read business book that changed everything was none other than Dr. Stephen Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. And ever since, I've been on a mission to devour the must read business books of the year each year. Today, I want to share them with you.

Why must read business books catalyzed my multimillion dollar company

While it was almost painful for me to only pick 5 favorite books, I've decided to go with 5 business books you MUST read. These 5 books helped me grow a lot this year and, for those of you looking for something a little more fun, I'll mention a few bonus fiction books at the end just for you. So if you've been wondering, "what are the best business books to read, Kayse?" Well, start by listening to this episode and you'll receive a mindset-shifting curriculum.

In this episode, you will learn:

    • What are the best business books to read
    • How to cruise through the business books you must read at 2x (or 1.5x) the speed
    • Why Shonda Rhimes and Will Smith made my list
    • Why one of the best business books of the year includes a mindset mantra
    • Why I recommend aiming for having a 100 products on TpT (in a new segment at the end of the episode!)

LINKS MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE ABOUT THE BEST BUSINESS BOOKS OF THE YEAR:

    • The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

What is the Most Important Self Care for Teachers? with Brooklyn Powell Nov 03, 2021
    Show notes

Self care for teachers begin with starting small

Self care, friends, is one of the most important things that you can do, not just as a CEO Teacher ®, but in general for your life. Currently, I'm finding self care strategies even more important because, with fall upon us, I'm dealing with Seasonal Affective Disorder. For those of you unfamiliar, Seasonal Affective Disorder (or S.A.D. for short…) is a type of depression that begins each fall and can continue through winter. Symptoms include things like anxiety, depression, and overwhelm. As I've grown older, however, self care activities are the only way I know how to combat S.A.D. And today's guest is going to talk you through how a teacher self care routine may not only combat S.A.D, but how it may also improve your life.

Navigating Life as a Part Time Teacher, Mom, and CEO Teacher® with Kayla Collins Oct 27, 2021
    Show notes

    Part-time teacher plus full-time mom and Instagram-er

Friends, I cannot wait to share with you today's podcast guest, Kayla Collins. Kayla is the heart and soul behind Teach Like You Mean It, a teacher Instagram account that I've been following for years (and don't take my word for it — check out her elegant classroom images on Instagram through the link below…). Not only does Kayla have an amazing eye for design and innovation, she does this while teaching part-time, running a very successful online TpT store, and sharing her beautiful classroom creations on teacher Instagram. Honestly, for this teacher mom, I would gladly bend time to be a student in her classroom. Her room is just that beautiful. And if I can't be in her classroom, well, I wish she'd decorate my home! Likewise, you're going to be sooooooooooo inspired as we talk about Kayla's journey through education, her move to teaching part-time, her joy at becoming a new mom, and her struggle with managing postpartum depression (and much, much more).

How she designed her own part time teacher jobs

To begin with, Kayla Collins is a design and Innovation teacher. Moreover, Kayla has over a decade of teaching experience in grades Pre K – 8th and, with a master's degree in STEAM Curriculum and Development, she integrates the engineering design process into all subjects matters in a variety of classroom settings. Furthermore, her favorite aspects of teaching include relationship building, social and emotional learning, and giving students opportunities for real life problem solving. When Kayla started creating creative lessons and skits to reach her specific students' needs and, additionally, sharing those lessons on Instagram, she stumbled upon a successful Teachers Pay Teachers business. Listen here to learn how you might do the same!

In this episode, you will learn:

    • How Kayla used her classroom needs to build her TpT store (and not the other way around)
    • Why being a part-time teacher and full-time CEO Teacher® is more of a reality than you might think
    • How having an insecurity or perceived deficiency can become a super-power
    • Why making the main thing the main thing EVEN with social media can become your biggest business driver
    • That being vulnerable with your students can give them agency and drive classroom success

Friends, I am soooooooooo happy today because not only is my guest going to share what diversity, equity, and inclusion is she is also going to share WHY diversity, equity, and inclusion in education is soooooooo very, very important. Without further ado, it is my pleasure to introduce Nita Creekmore. Nita is an Instructional Coach who lives just outside Atlanta, GA (hello neighbor!). While originally from Woodbridge, Virginia, Nita taught in grades 1, 2, and 5 for 13 years before becoming an Elementary School Instructional Coach. Invite under-represented voices to the table: diversity, equity, and inclusion best practices

Before becoming a speaker on diversity, equity, and inclusion, Nita began Love. Teach. Bless. on Instagram in 2015. Interestingly, it started simply as a fun hobby highlighting the fun things that she did with her first grade class. From there, Love. Teach. Bless. has grown to be a true consulting business where Nita presents, coaches teachers, and collaborates with a variety of educational companies…all while sharing diversity, equity, and inclusion resources. Most of all, Nita believes in holding inclusive spaces. And today, we're going to talk all about that. In addition, you'll hear: Nita's journey through education, how she became an instructional coach, how she found success in her mission-driven business, and how, through her journey, she allowed her passion for inclusivity to create a greater conversation around diversity and equity in all classrooms.

In this episode, you will learn:

    • Advice on how you can make your business more inclusive and equitable
    • How to take what you do in education and turn it into a business
    • Why starting a T-shirt merchandise store, such as her BLESSED & BEARDED TEES, can also be an opportunity to further your mission for diversity, equity, and inclusion
