The Context of White Supremacy welcomes the return of a black male listener in China. A so called ex-patriot, he's been residing in China for over a decade. An educator by trade, he's been instructing Chinese pupils during his time abroad. Gus has been in contact with this Victim of Racism throughout the coronavirus pandemic. As the virus reportedly originated in the Wuhan village of China, he's already survived two months of quarantine and is now enjoying the freedom of no restrictions on movement - he still wears a mask. With painful accuracy, nearly a month ago he mailed Gus a detailed report predicting that black people in the U.S. - where his relatives still reside, would be devastated by Covid-19. He thought Racist control of our diet, polluted living environments, and centuries of inadequate health care and malicious medical experimentation and abuse on black people would leave us in a substantially immune-deficient state. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly Compensatory Call-In. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. We’ll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We’ll examine news reports from the past seven days and – hopefully – promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS The constantly shifting narrative of the global coronavirus pandemic took a bleak turn towards the end of last week and beginning of this week with an endless stream of reports from around the globe documenting that black people in the U.S. are dying at alarming numbers from Covid-19. The System of White Supremacy and the history of Medical Apartheid help explain our preexisting unhealthy state as well as the array of diet-related health problems black people suffer from: diabetes, hypertension, high blood pressure, obesity, asthma. As opposed to forming medical counsels to ensure the health and well being of black people, many have resorted to the usual: practice White Supremacy. There are reports of black people being harassed, labeled as contagions and kicked out of stores. The Context of White Supremacy hosts our Friday weekly forum on neutralizing Workplace Racism. The world suspension of activities in response to the so called coronavirus continues. All areas of people activity have been disrupted, and workers in all industries are struggling to deal with daily adjustments and new safety hazards. As attention in the U.S. shifts to the impact the illness is having on black people, some have theorized that one component of racism that puts black people at greater risk is that a high number of black workers are classified as "essential workers." As opposed to being able to lounge comfortably working from home, numerous low-wage food service, transportation, sanitation workers are forced to brave the reportedly contaminated new world daily. Additionally, many workers are grappling with employers for safe work conditions and hazard pay. The Context of White Supremacy hosts our debut study session on Dr. Llaila O. Afrika's Nutritional Destruction Black People (Nutricide). Dr. Afrika is an internationally acclaimed author, naturopathic healer, certified acupuncturist, nutrition counselor and addictionologist. He's surprising death in March of this year saddened and stunned many. He was 74 years old. We planned to read Dr. Afrika's work to honor his extraordinary scholarship, but there was no urgency to select a date. The coronavirus changed everything. Seemingly days after many around the world joked that black people are immune to "the rona," an avalanche of reports announce that black people in the U.S. states are dying at alarming numbers from the so-called coronavirus. The history and continued practice of #MedicalAprtheid, abusing and experimenting on black patients, is one theory to explain the high number of fatalities. But obesity, cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes and a host of other diet-related health problems seem to be correlated with a higher risk of dying from the coronavirus. A certified holistic nutritionist, wellness coach and an advocate for the life-saving benefits of plant-based nutrition, we first spoke with Dr. Lathon before The C.O.W.S. 10-Year Anniversary Yoga Retreat in Virginia. Featured in the documentary films What The Health?, Dr. Lathon offers a wealth of resources to help black people become more informed about food choices and inspired to make quality meal choices. We'll check in on Dr. Lathon's experience with the coronavirus shutdown. We'll ask how her toilet paper inventory is holding up and what she's been dining on in the kitchen. We'll ask for suggestions on how black people can use this time to polish their cooking skills and practice cooking healthier vittles. We're especially interested to hear her thoughts on recent reports suggesting a correlation between diabetes and obesity and the covid-19 virus. The Context of White Supremacy hosts our sixth study session on Dr. Sylvia Hood Washington's Packing Them In: An Archaeology of Environmental Racism in Chicago, 1865-1954. An environmental epidemiologist, environmental engineer and environmental historian, Dr. Washington is Chief Environmental Research Scientist at Environmental Health Research Associates, LLC. With research experience examining the impact of industrial pollution on human health and ecosystems, she's the creator and editor-in-chief of the first international environmental health disparities journal, Environmental Justice. We'll continue examining her 2004 text, Packing Them In: An Archaeology of Environmental Racism in Chicago, 1865-1954. Chicago is a significant city in North America, and black people have sojourned to this region for over a century. Consequently, Whites have devoted a staggering amount of time, energy and resources to study, warehouse, terrorize and poison the black people of the "windy city." During last week's session Dr. Hood described the great migration of the late 19th and 20th century. Legions of black people labored to escape terrorism in the south and migrated to western and northern cities like Chicago. Consequently, northern Racists studied and terrorized black newcomers. In Chicago - and elsewhere - black people were regarded as a medical menace. Whites claimed black people were a vector for disease to contaminate pure Whites. However, Dr. Hood notes that one major result of the 1871 great Chicago fire was the relocation of vice - prostitution and gambling - to the black part of town. The reading also detailed the dozens of bombings used to terrorize and punish black residents for attempting to purchase houses in the White section of town.
