The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 3rd study session on Dr. Llaila O. Afrika's Nutritional Destruction Black People (Nutricide). Dr. Afrika is an internationally acclaimed author, naturopathic healer, certified acupuncturist, nutrition counselor and addictionologist. His surprising death in March of this year saddened and stunned many. He was 74. We were scheduled to read Dr. Afrika's work at some point this year, but there was no urgency to select a date. The coronavirus changed everything. Seemingly days after many around the world joked that black people are immune to "the rona," an avalanche of reports announced that black people in the U.S. are dying at alarming numbers from the so-called coronavirus. The history and continued practice of #MedicalAprtheid, abusing and experimenting on black patients, is one theory to explain the high number of fatalities. But obesity, cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes and a host of other diet-related health problems seem to be correlated with a higher risk of dying from the coronavirus. The current health crisis demanded that we open Dr. Afrika's work immediately. Unfortunately, our first three installments yielded little reward for cracking Dr. Afrika's book. There's a hefty amount of name-calling and blaming of black people - who are not in control of their food choices. In the forward of the book, Dr. Afrika explains that he uses the term African to describe all individuals on the planet who are classified as black. He also details why he chooses not to include references. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Dr. Sylvia Hood Washington. The Chief Environmental Research Scientist at Environmental Health Research Associates, Dr. Washington is an environmental epidemiologist, environmental engineer and environmental historian with 30 years of research experience working on the impact of industrial pollution on human health and ecosystems. This spring we read her 2004 publication, Packing Them In: An Archaeology of Environmental Racism in Chicago, 1865-1954. The book does a fabulous job detailing the long and violent history of compressing huge numbers of black Chicagoans into sub-standard living conditions that destroy health. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes the return of scholar Vernellia Randall. A repeat visitor to The C.O.W.S., Gus actually met Professor Randall at the 2010 White Privilege Conference. A University of Ohio Professor Emeritus, Professor Randall published Dying While Black - which examines the numerous ways that the System of White Supremacy erodes the health of black people. Professor Randall has been closely following the coronavirus pandemic and reports that black people are being heavily impacted. We'll ask her for thoughts about the validity of the reports relating to black people as well as the U.S. federal response to the virus. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. We’ll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We’ll examine news reports from the past seven days and – hopefully – promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS The global coronavirus pandemic has shuttered the United States and much of the world for the past month. Uncertainty reigns about when things will normalize or what the new normal will look like. In the meantime, the disruption to all areas of people activity include intense ravages to the food service industry. With restaurants locked across the country, thousands of pounds of food are being wasted - and in some instances destroyed. While daily reports about the number of dead and sick continue to make headlines, President Donald J. Trump seemingly encouraged White members of the so called Patriot Front to defy stay-at-home orders in their respective states. Numerous Whites assert the shelter in place orders are not constitutional and should be immediately revoked and/or disobeyed. The Context of White Supremacy hosts our Friday weekly forum on neutralizing Workplace Racism. The world suspension of activities in response to the so called coronavirus continues. All areas of people activity have been disrupted, and workers in all industries are struggling to deal with daily adjustments and new safety hazards. As attention in the U.S. shifts to the impact the illness is having on black people, some have theorized that one component of racism that puts black people at greater risk is that a high number of black workers are classified as "essential workers." As opposed to being able to lounge comfortably working from home, numerous low-wage food service, transportation, sanitation workers are forced to brave the reportedly contaminated new world daily. Additionally, many workers are grappling with employers for safe work conditions and hazard pay. The coronavirus changed everything. Seemingly days after many around the world joked that black people are immune to "the rona," an avalanche of reports announced that black people in the U.S. are dying at alarming numbers from the so-called coronavirus. The history and continued practice of #MedicalAprtheid, abusing and experimenting on black patients, is one theory to explain the high number of fatalities. The current health crisis demanded that we open Dr. Afrika's work immediately. Unfortunately, last week's session wasn't the most optimistic beginning. Dr. Afrika made a number of comparisons between black people in the U.S. and black people on the continent of Africa. These two groups eat profoundly different things with profoundly different health consequences. This was not acknowledged or discussed at all in Dr. Afrika's work. There's a liberal amount of name-calling black people exclusively throughout the book. In fact, Dr. Afrika's book features this quote from "a White racist" on the book jacket: "Your people will never accept you.
