The Context of White Supremacy hosts our Friday weekly forum on neutralizing Workplace Racism. In an unprecedented week, hundreds of thousands of workers around the world find themselves not working at all or working dramatically reduced hours in response to the so-called Wuhan coronavirus. What started with eliminating handshakes and social distancing has transmogrified to working from home and a gargantuan number of closures. For many this means a sudden decline in income. Because this is unfolding globally, it could be cataclysmic for a legions of non-white people. The C.O.W.S. will evaluate how this is impacting non-white workers. For working parents, school closures have added a new problem. We'll discuss problems with working from home and challenges for those who are still required to be on the physical plantation. Gus encourages non-white workers to take their healthy and safety seriously and to be extremely alert for changes to sick leave policy and/or work place regulations in general. The Context of White Supremacy hosts our third study session on Dr. Sylvia Hood Washington's Packing Them In: An Archaeology of Environmental Racism in Chicago, 1865-1954. An environmental epidemiologist, environmental engineer and environmental historian, Dr. Washington is Chief Environmental Research Scientist at Environmental Health Research Associates, LLC. With three decades of research experience examining the impact of industrial pollution on human health and ecosystems, she's the creator and editor-in-chief of the first international environmental health disparities journal, Environmental Justice. We'll inspect her 2004 text, Packing Them In: An Archaeology of Environmental Racism in Chicago, 1865-1954. Chicago is a significant city in North America, and black people have sojourned to this region for over a century. Consequently, Whites have devoted a staggering amount of time, energy and resources to study, warehouse, terrorize and poison the black people of the "windy city." During last week's session Dr. Hood highlighted Dr. George Washington Carver's efforts at the turn of the 1900's to address black people's problems - which included healthy environments. W. E. B. DuBois a prominent sociologist of the period, also commented on the importance of clean water and air for black people. The Context of White Supremacy's host Gus T. Renegade makes time to evaluate the opening stages of the so-called coronavirus pandemic. Gus s not a doctor or qualified health care provider. He is not qualified to offer medical advice. However, he is literate and able to follow logic. As the entire world is taking unprecedented measures to stem this reported health crisis, we'll make a counter-racist assessment of what looks to be months of confusion and irregular activities. It's sound logic for non-white people to observe when Whites take something as serious as this. It's prudent to investigate and make sound choices in the best interest of you and your attempted family. We'll evaluate safety precautions, child rearing challenges and the difficulty of corralling accurate information in a system propelled by deception. With thirty years of research experience examining the impact of industrial pollution on human health and ecosystems, she's the creator and editor-in-chief of the first international environmental health disparities journal, Environmental Justice. We'll discuss her 2004 text, Packing Them In: An Archaeology of Environmental Racism in Chicago, 1865-1954. Chicago is a massively important city in North America, black people have sojourned to this region for over a century. Consequently, Whites have devoted a staggering amount of time, energy and resources to study, warehouse and terrorize and poison the black people of the "windy city." During the opening session of the book, she discussed the ways some groups of people were initially classified as not white. Consequently, they were subjected to poisonous environments - although not to the same level as black Chicagoans. Woodson, 2020's Black History Month came to somber conclusion with the death of Katherine Johnson and the public memorial to basketball legend Kobe Bryant. Johnson was a mathematical genius and used her brilliance for White NASA program; she's immortalized in the Kevin Costner film Hidden Figures. Bryant, who died at the end of January in a helicopter crash with his 13-year-old daughter and seven others, was given a public tribute in Los Angeles. Sorrows continued with a reported workplace shooting at Molson Coors Brewery in Wisconsin. A black male, Anthony Ferrill, has accused of killing five co-workers and then committing suicide. Ferrill charged his White colleagues with practicing Racism on the job - including leaving nooses in the workplace. Speaking of lynching, decades and decades after thousands of black people were lynched across the continent, congress finally approved anti-lynching legislation.
