The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 6th study session on Romain Gary's White Dog. A White man born in eastern Europe, Gary piloted jets in World War II and authored a number of top selling french novels before committing suicide in 1980. We'll discuss his 1970 global bestseller, White Dog - which is reportedly based on actual events. The book centers on a white German shepherd Gary finds while visiting the United States. The vagrant canine is beloved by Gary's entire family and treated as part of the clan. But Gary quickly notices the hound becomes hostile and immediately attacks when black people appear. During last week's session, Gary continues to castigate Stokely Carmichael. This critique is literally hours and days following the assassination of Dr. King. Gary recounts attending a Hollywood fundraiser where those in attendance included: the late Coretta Scott King, Rev. Ralph Abernathy, Jesse Jackson Sr., Harry Belafonte and other prominent members of the so-called Civil Rights Movement as well as entertainment titans like Marlon Brando. Gary uses this moment to mock the proposed Poor People's Campaign - which was Dr. King's final project. He later recounts his time spent with former President John F. Kennedy and his brother and former Attorney General Robert Kennedy. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Dr. Horace Bartilow. A professor of political science at the University of Kentucky, Dr. Bartilow examines International Political Economy. Specifically, he researches "the politics of the World Bank's and IMF's structural adjustment lending and the impact of global economic integration on democratic governance and human rights." We'll examine his 2019 publication, Drug War Pathologies: Embedded Corporatism and U.S. Drug Enforcement in the Americas. The book details how the White Supremacist "War On Drugs" that originally targeted black people born in the U.S. became a global mission against non-white people. We'll also discuss his more recent report on how the C.I.A. destabilized Jamaica during the 1970's. The chaotic and dangerous summer of 2020 slowly draws to conclusion, but the new seasons offers few reasons for hope. Covid-19 continues to wreak havoc on job environments. The conclusion of August typically signifies the beginning of a new school year. That brings a hosts of uncertainty and challenge for working parents, as a number of schools will not reopen this calendar year. Some parents are being forced to take time away from work because they do not have child care for their offspring. We'll also continue to encourage that non-white employees remain vigilant and committed to being safe in the workplace. During last week's session, Gary continues to castigate Stokely Carmichael. This critique is is literally hours and days following the assassination of Dr. King. Gary fails to offer insight on King's - other than insisting that black riffraff like Carmichael taunted King as a sellout and "Uncle Tom." In fact, Gary repeatedly hypothesizes if a black person killed Dr. King. He mocks the Black Panther Party as being nothing but loud violent rhetoric unsupported by action. Meanwhile, the Racist hound is no longer violent to black trainer, Mr. Keys. But, as Keys explains, the dog simply views the black trainer as his "house nigger". He still growls at hopes to chomp another black people. There's a striking moment where the dog escapes as discovers a black infant. A associate professor of Africana Studies at Fresno State University, Dr. Johnson's work focuses on black males studies and 20th Century Africana Socio-Political History. The C.O.W.S. has heard a number of guests discuss the concept of black male privilege - legal scholar Athena D. Mutua and Dr. Tommy J. Curry to name two. We'll review Dr. Johnson report, "SOME BLACK MEN MAY BE JERKS BUT BLACK MALE PRIVILEGE IS NOT A THING." Much like Dr. Curry, Dr. Johnson describes "intersectionality" and notions that black males occupy similar levels of power and patriarchal tendencies to White Men. When following logic, seeking evidence, there's not much to evidence the might and influence of the black male.
