She was married to a member of the production team so was well aware of what was happening with Doctor Who when she joined it for a milestone story. She also discusses radio acting, being drawn by the second Doctor and a prize winning and rather well known artistic offspring. It's a very interesting chat - you could actually describe it as a Great One!

    Nominated charity: Shelter

    Toby Hadoke's Who's Round: 174: Andrew Morgan May 04, 2016
    Show notes

An extended edition in which Toby lunches at BAFTA and chats to a director who notched up two landmark 80s stories. Under discussion are such topics as being the best friend of a 70s Doctor Who director, working with an earlier Doctor on one of his last jobs, and blowing up part of central London in the name of science-fiction entertainment.

    Toby Hadoke's Who's Round: 173: Sarah Berger May 03, 2016
    Show notes

An actress whose career started on a high - a lead role in a BBC drama whilst she was still in training. That did nothing to prepare her for the glamour of Doctor Who though, in which she appeared as a very distinctive alien. Her preoccupation nowadays is to make a difference to the profession and she has a lot to say about being proactive and how the acting world has changed over the years: and for women in particular.

    Nominated charity: Rethink

Well, as everyone is taking about (and watching) the latest series of Game of Thrones how about one of its regular actors in a timely interview that was conducted after the broadcast of series four of the swords and sauciness series - so there are no spoilers for after that. He's done a lot of telly, so we talk sketch shows, ensemble dramas and even ill-advised Glaswegian accents - and a very recent episode of Doctor Who! The chat goes on till after midnight so it is, shall we say, quite convivial!

    Nominated charity: St Oswald's Hospice

There aren't many of today's actors who haven't learnt their trade under this highly regarded drama teacher. So where better for a meeting place than RADA, where some of the finest thespians in the land have started their journey to stardom? Our victim began his career in Australia, was a regular in a much loved, long running UK cop show and played one of the most memorable and fondly regarded guest characters ever to appear in the show. Give him a big hand - but don't throw any at him!

    Toby Hadoke's Who's Round: 170: Clive Merrison Apr 03, 2016
    Show notes

Two Doctors, one black and white, one colour. One when he was just starting out, the other when he was - as he is now - one of the most respected character actors of his generation. He's played a crime fiction icon, appeared in one of the biggest Oscar success movies of all time, and worked on the West End stage in an international hit play. He's done it all, yet he still found time to donate his memories and guffaws to the Who's Round listeners. What a treat!

One of the most candid and fascinating interviews comes to an end but the searing honesty doesn't let up. We still haven't finished talking about Doctor Who and it's time to address some of the points that have been made earlier in the conversation as well as going into further detail about some of the controversies surrounding the story. And yet we still find time to discuss working with that fine actor Paul Schofield and all sots of other impressive non-Who moments.

    Toby Hadoke's Who's Round: 168: Stephen Gallagher Part 2 Apr 01, 2016

The second part of an interview with one of those script writers whose subsequent career means that Doctor Who is just a tiny element of an impressive CV. So he discusses his work on the show from the perspective of a successful writer who still works in television and knows how it works. He also happened to write two strories which had a very difficult transition from script to screen and discusses them openly and with fondness.

    Toby Hadoke's Who's Round: 167: Paul Joyce Part 2 Mar 05, 2016
    Show notes

This forthright and intelligent director talks Kubrick and Peckinpah, but it all relates back to his time on one of the most turbulent but interesting productions in the history of Doctor Who. Oh, and there's the small matter of meeting Samuel Beckett in person. But even then it's not the endgame.
