    Ep. 305: What Makes A Marriage A Failure? Aug 10, 2022
    Show notes

What makes a marriage a failure? Are people who get married and divorced shortly after somehow less than the rest of us? Of course not! Most people aren’t getting married knowing it will end, and there’s no way anyone can know the inner workings of a marriage, anyways. And a long marriage isn’t necessarily a happy or healthy one, either! All that matters is the happiness and personal growth of the people directly involved in the marriage. That seems like true success.

Is an ended marriage a failure? [2:26]

    Most people don’t want a divorce [5:10]

How long does the honeymoon phase really last? [6:38]

Some issues you just can’t work through [9:52]

You don’t know what you don’t know [12:35]

Getting right with your own choices [15:03]

Focusing on the marriage rather than the wedding [18:46]

Working through hardships before and during marriage [19:53]

    Understanding your own choices [22:48]

“Success” should be measured by happiness [25:04]

Ep. 304: Are You a Failure for Hiring Out Chores? Aug 05, 2022
    Show notes

Nobody likes putting away laundry. Well, maybe you do. But it’s a chore we hate, and there’s probably something you hate doing (or just don’t have time for) too. At some point, you have to stop doing everything by yourself! Hiring someone to do your dishes, or mop your floors, or watch your kids doesn’t make you a failure, it just means you have more important shit to do! That’s the Best Life. Hiring out the inane tasks—whatever they may be—to save yourself the mental energy and spend time on what really matters to you.

When is time to stop doing everything yourself? [1:06]

Someone loves doing the shit you hate [2:29]

Saving time or saving money [4:24]

Is “martyrdom” a generational or gendered thing? [6:25]

    Conserving your mental energy [8:29]

Someone needs or wants that work [12:09]

You can’t do it all! [14:20]

Do it, delegate it, or delete it [17:09]

    Productive vs. busy [17:53]

You can start out with trades [23:50]

    Hiring out isn’t a moral failure [26:59]

Ep. 303: Differing Money Mindsets in Your Relationship Aug 03, 2022
    Show notes

Money is a sensitive subject. For most of us, the way we think about, save, and spend money comes straight from our childhood and our parents’ habits. Then, when we start to factor in a partner’s money habits, things start to get even more complicated. Maybe one of you saves every penny, while the other loves to spend on the finer things. What we do know is that nothing changes if you don’t talk about it. So if you and your partner are in need of a Money-Mindset-Makeover, it might be time to have a few hard conversations.

Our money behaviors often come from childhood [4:08]

    Savers vs. spenders [6:08]

The more you give away, the more you welcome in [7:11]

The value of saving and investing [10:52]

    Abundance (with a plan) [11:44]

    Know thyself [15:29]

Have a conversation about what works for both of you [17:41]

    A balanced money mindset [22:00]

Money helps you enjoy your life [24:32]

Give yourself a buffer before you buy [27:26]

Out of sight, out of mind [30:59]

    Needs, wants, and priorities [33:38]

Hiding spending from your partner [36:56]

Adding streams of income, just for yourself [39:57]

    Single-income households [43:36]

Ep. 302: How We've Stayed Friends and Business Partners Over 300 Episodes Jul 29, 2022
    Show notes

We’re 300 (and 2) episodes in! We’ve always joked about running out of things to talk about, and we finally did. Only a little kidding about that. Some of our best conversations come from our deep friendship, and that’s something we’ve been able to maintain over the past 5 years through relationships old and new, moves to different cities, business decisions, family matters, and everything in between. Finding and keeping friends is harder than it seems, but here’s how we keep ours going strong. Because even after all this time, we’re still Best Friends living the Best Life.

We’ve run out of things to say [2:49]

The ebbs and flows of our lives [4:38]

Life changes, but the love remains the same [7:30]

It’s okay to do things just for the love of it [9:23]

    Putting in the effort [13:57]

    How to maintain friendships [17:28]

Finding a way to touch base [20:52]

Get involved to meet people [25:54]

Ep. 301: Being Wrong Isn't the End of the World Jul 27, 2022
    Show notes

Making a mistake isn’t the end of the world (even if it really feels like it.) A lot of children are conditioned to fear “messing up” and those children turn into perfectionist adults. Sure, perfectionism might take you “far” places, but at some point, that same perfectionism is going to stifle your creativity and keep you stuck in the same places. If you want to go even farther, you have to learn to embrace your mistakes and give yourself grace when you’re wrong or you’ve messed up. You’re tougher than you know, and even if you are wrong sometimes, everything is going to be just fine.

We’re conditioned to fear making mistakes [0:58]

    Perfectionism makes you fragile [2:48]

Imperfection is a productivity system [6:00]

Having to be “perfect” stifles your creativity [6:54]

The freedom of allowing yourself to make mistakes [9:25]

Life just isn’t that fragile [11:14]

    Growth requires other people [13:02]

Resiliency takes you farther than perfectionism [14:32]

    A moment of self-compassion [18:08]

Who makes the rules of “good” and “bad”? [22:40]

The Pratfall Effect builds trust [24:37]

    It’s okay to stop [28:21]

The stakes aren’t as high as you think they are [28:18]

Ep. 300: The Negativity in Body Positivity Jul 22, 2022
    Show notes

The body positivity movement has been life-changing for so many people. Bodies come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, and we ALL deserve to love ourselves, however we look. But we’ve noticed a weird trend, where body positivity turns… well, negative. Now if you show up online as a thin person, you’re shaming people who aren’t. Or if you express interest in losing some pounds or gaining some muscle, you “don’t love yourself.” The body positivity movement is incredible in a lot of ways, but something is wrong when we’re still focused on what “weight” means, rather than the act of being healthy, however that looks. As in most things, the best way to live a life you love is to worry about your own journey, and let others live theirs.

The line between body positivity and accepting unhealthy lifestyles [1:20]

Why do you give a fuck what someone else looks like? [3:48]

    Shame never motivated anyone [5:32]

Get right with YOUR journey [7:31]

We’re focused on the wrong enemy [9:28]

Promoting health as en end result [11:47]

If someone wants to be skinnier, that’s okay! [16:46]

Speaking the language of your clients [20:31]

Body Positivity isn’t all good, but it’s not all bad either [23:36]

Ep. 299: The Grass Is Always Greener (Until It Isn't) Jul 20, 2022
    Show notes

The grass on the other side of the fence always looks greener… until you get over there and it’s covered in ants or dog shit, or maybe it was just spray painted green. And at some point, you’re still going to have to water and mow it. The grass may look greener, but that doesn’t make it “better.” Spoiler alert: we aren’t actually talking about grass. We’re talking about everything: relationships, jobs, friends, homes, you name it. It can be so easy to compare the same old things that we have to whatever is shiny and new. And maybe that is what you want… but maybe you can learn to appreciate the grass you have, too.

New things are fun, but they lack depth [5:42]

Understanding where you are in life [7:57]

Owning the value of your own choices [10:30]

If you want something else, try to cultivate it with what you have [13:15]

Working through your “issues” will always help you [17:20]

What you covet might not even be real [21:11]

The answer is always to talk about your needs [24:31]

Make the conscious choice to choose what you have [28:54]

Your perception is always your choice [34:19]

Getting caught up in our emotions [36:03]

Ep. 298: Who Are You Posting For? Jul 16, 2022
    Show notes

When you have a personal brand or online business, you get a lot of comments from the peanut gallery—and by that, we mean that strangers feel like they get a say on what you post. Some times we get accused of posting pictures of ourselves for male attention. We definitely aren’t, but even if that were true… who gives a fuck? Your social media, your rules. Maybe what we post can be a little polarizing at times, but that’s how we’ve found amazing people like you who really GET us. So be a little polarizing sometimes. You’ll find yourself surrounded by the right people.

Who are you posting for? [4:24]

    Internalized misogyny and objectification [6:41]

    Posting for external validation [9:50]

    Energy and intention matter [12:38]

Paving the way for other women’s confidence [15:03]

You get to do what you want on your own social media [17:17]

Just keep going until you find your audience [18:56]

Post for yourself, and the right people will find you [21:41]

    Unlearning your negativity bias [23:07]

Ep. 297: Shiny Object Syndrome in Business Jul 13, 2022
    Show notes

If you’re brand new to business, there are a million different things you could be doing at any given time. You might be falling prey to shiny-object syndrome, just chasing after whatever seems like it’ll bring you success the fastest. But if you keep changing things up without any real commitment, you’ll never know what really works for you. Just like you wouldn’t switch from making cake to pie halfway through the recipe, you shouldn’t shuffle your business around every so often.

Beginners seem more susceptible to shiny-object syndrome [2:01]

Follow through to the end [3:55]

Constantly operating out of scarcity and urgency [5:26]

    Focus on one variable [8:25]

How to decide what to focus on [11:23]

    Play to your strengths [14:14]

There is no “right way” [16:23]

Ep. 296: Overcoming Food Scarcity and Dysfunction Jul 09, 2022
    Show notes

Yes, food is fuel but it is so much more than that. Food is community and connection, and honestly, sometimes that shit is simply delicious. We used to be those kinds of people who weighed every ounce of food and cried if you asked for a bite—aka, we were obsessed and dysfunctional. Now we can share food without a second thought and it no longer has the same kind of power over us. If you’re stuck in an unhealthy relationship with your food, know that food freedom is possible! It takes a little mindfulness and a lot of practice, but we’re here on the other side, waiting for you to join us (and share a French fry or two).

Food obsession on competition diets [2:32]

    Dysfunctional food scarcity [4:11]

Overcoming scarcity by sharing and mindfulness [7:10]

Food can be a way to connect [10:10]

Are you putting food on a pedestal? [12:43]

Moving on from mindsets that no longer serve you [15:34]

Honoring your natural hunger and activity levels [17:06]

Learning to listen to your own body [21:45]

The happiness we have from food freedom [26:04]
