Ep. 335: Intrusive Questions During the Holidays Nov 23, 2022
    Show notes

One of the things we dread the most about the holidays are those intrusive questions and comments we all seem to get: When are you getting married? Have you thought about having kids? It looks like you’ve gained some weight! We know what you really want to tell Aunt Helen is just to fuck right off, but if you’re looking to keep the peace, there’s a better way. Your family may not understand your life or choices, but you don’t have to let it get to you.

    Getting asked intrusive questions [5:47]

People placing their values upon you [6:38]

An opportunity for education and to be an example [9:09]

Just own up to your choices [15:28]

People pleasing and going off-script [18:58]

You don’t have to justify your success [23:46]

Ep. 334: Emptying Your JAR For Relationship Harmony Nov 19, 2022
    Show notes

It’s the little things that kill a relationship. Judgements, assumptions, and resentments built up over time are silent killers, but just because those feelings have been built up doesn’t mean your relationship is unsalvageable. It’s time to empty out that JAR. Create a safe space for you and your parter, be willing to share openly, listen without judgment, and you might be surprised just how far that takes you. Take Danny-J and Jeff’s word for it, opening up their JAR has deepened their relationship through some of their hardest moments.

Growth as a couple starts with yourself [2:33]

Facing triggers from previous relationships [4:00]

Small rocks in the JAR leads to big problems [8:01]

Establishing a place of safety [10:19]

Allow the other person to share their perspective [22:21]

Understanding patterns that come up [24:11]

How to begin these conversations [26:45]

It’s about getting back on the same page [30:57]

Ep. 333: Working Through The Trauma of the Past Few Years Nov 17, 2022
    Show notes

Today’s episode is a bit more serious, but a much needed conversation. We all experience traumatic events in our lives, and the past few years we’ve seen trauma on a global scale. In addition to all that’s going on in the world, Danny-J has been through enough of her own, personal trauma that’s left her feeling empty, un-motivated, and confused. We’re just here to say, it’s okay, and it’s possible to work through it.

Ep. 332: The Things We No Longer Care About Nov 12, 2022
    Show notes

There are things 15, 10, and even 5 years ago that used to be the most important things in the world to us, and now, we just don’t give a shit. Maybe its age, experience, or a little of both, but some of our concerns of the past just don’t matter anymore. Sometimes it’s terrifying to let go of a past version of you that cares a lot about how your ass looks in those pants, or how many hours of cardio you did today, or what your neighbor down the street thinks of you. It mattered to you then, sure, but it doesn’t have to matter forever. It’s okay to move on and become a new version of you!

Complaining about our (fit) bodies [2:05]

Things we no longer care about [5:09]

Facing a crisis of purpose [7:30]

Life puts different things into perspective [10:10]

    With age, comes experience [14:26]

Focusing on what’s truly important [17:08]

    Evolution is okay [19:57]

Ep. 331: If We Were Dating Again Nov 09, 2022
    Show notes

It’s been a few years since we’ve been on any dating apps (and thank goodness for that!) but we’ve been wondering lately… what the hell is even going on over there? Are dating apps done? What we do if we were still on them? We know as well as anyone that dating is a cluster-fuck of a situation, it’s a lawless land. But after years of trial and mostly error, there’s a few things we’d do differently if we were still on the dating scene.

    Dating app changes [2:55]

    Meeting up right away [5:16]

Spending less time on apps [7:27]

    Dating app burn-out [9:57]

Chemistry online doesn’t translate to real life [13:34]

What stands out on a profile [15:02]

Where do you even meet people organically? [17:41]

The principles of making friends applies [20:02]

Abundance (and pickiness) in dating [22:33]

Making deeper connections with less people [26:40]

Ep. 330: The Pressure of the Holidays Nov 04, 2022
    Show notes

Now that it’s November, the holiday season is just around the corner and with the holidays comes a lot of stress, expectations, and obligations. Fuck that. Just because someone said you “should” spend the holidays with your family (who you might not even like!) doesn’t mean you have to! If it takes away from your peace and joy, it doesn’t have to be a priority. You may end up having a few difficult conversations and you may end up breaking a few traditions, but there’s always time to make some of your own.

The holidays are a stressful time [1:35]

    Preserving your own peace [3:09]

The financial expectations and burdens [8:04]

Practice letting the chips fall [11:25]

Letting go of a narrow vision of the holidays [13:49]

    Having a solo holiday [16:30]

    Creating new traditions [18:15]

Do the things that give you joy [20:18]

    Ep. 329: Compromise in A Relationship Nov 02, 2022
    Show notes

Relationships require compromise—it’s the price we pay to be with the people we love. Compromise can be difficult, and it’s not always 50/50. But when you spend a lot of time with someone, you might find have very different wants, needs, and expectations that aren’t always communicated clearly. Maybe this means you’ll have to spend some time with relatives you don’t like cry much, and maybe this means your partner will have to go to a Shania Twain concert he never really wanted to go to in the first place. There’s one thing we know for sure: if you want compromise, you’re going to have to communicate.

Going out with your partner (when you really don’t want to) [3:19]

    Compromise isn’t always equal [6:02]

    Understanding your non-negotiables [8:38]

    Get your resentment in-check [10:42]

Set your expectations ahead of time [12:44]

    Consideration above all [14:41]

Valuing your partners needs as much as your own [16:15]

Not everything is important and not everything is personal [19:45]

Ep. 328: Your Instagram Following Owes You Nothing Oct 28, 2022
    Show notes

We’ve noticed a trend of self-righteousness and victimhood on Instagram and it isn’t the best look. If you have any sort of following online, that’s great! But at the same time, that audience doesn’t owe you shit. Post what makes you happy, of course, but it’s also not your followers’ “fault” if you aren’t getting as many likes or if no one buys the product you’re selling. If they don’t like what they see, they have the right to unfollow you, just like you have the right to post anything you want. No one owing anyone anything. And we love it that way.

The (sometimes) self-righteousness of Instagram [1:20]

Post whatever brings you joy [4:23]

    Changing means you’ll lose some people—and that’s okay! [6:50]

Your followers don’t owe you anything [8:15]

Nobody’s full attention is on you [11:18]

    The attention differential [15:56]

    Guilt marketing never works [17:46]

    Everyone has competing priorities [20:59]

Social media is a perfect filtering system [23:15]

    E. 327: Bad Break-Up Behavior Oct 26, 2022
    Show notes

If you knew us in 2016-2018, no you didn’t. Jokes aside, the years following our divorces were difficult in a lot of ways and we coped with the pain in ways not necessarily in line with our best selves… and that’s normal! Break-ups and divorces turn your world upside down, and sometimes you need to post a few thirst traps and get drunk a few times (okay, maybe more than just a few) to get yourself through it. But you’ll be okay in the end, even if you do some things you think are cringey in the future.

The self-esteem hit after our marriages ended [1:48]

    Making embarrassing decisions [4:42]

The process of finding yourself again [6:34]

    Judgement makes it worse [9:11]

Our friendships help us get through [15:04]

How do you know you’re ready to date again? [18:12]

Who do you want to be now? [22:04]

    Rebuilding your identity [25:21]

    Ep. 326: I'll Start When I'm Skinnier Oct 22, 2022
    Show notes

Have you ever postponed starting something because you felt “too fat”? Or maybe you won’t let anyone take a picture of you or you won’t wear an outfit you love until you’re thinner. We won’t be the ones to tell you how to live your life, but we can tell you this: life doesn’t magically start when you lose weight. And besides, thinness doesn’t equate to confidence anyway! So don’t postpone happiness. You can always start a weight loss journey, but don’t wait until it’s completed to start living your life.

Missing out on life because we’re “too fat” [2:39]

The moment we vowed not to care about our weight [3:33]

Waiting doesn’t get you any closer [6:58]

Being thin doesn’t guarantee confidence [9:40]

    Bodies are always changing [10:58]

Other ways to gain confidence [12:44]

Wearing what makes you feel good [14:13]

Take off what isn’t “you” [17:29]

    Why deny joy? [19:56]
