    Ep. 355: Competitive Insecurities Feb 01, 2023
    Show notes

For modern women (and men, and everyone!) insecurities seem to be a part of life. We pick up insecurities as children and those fears follow us around for decades to come. Unfortunately, these insecurities tend to become competitive: “you can’t feel ugly today because I’m uglier!” “That person has a way flatter ass than you!” Hey, we’re all entitled to feel bad about ourselves at some point, but why are we so caught up in feeling justified in our self-hatred? Maybe instead of policing why someone should or shouldn’t feel insecure, we could all try to love ourselves no matter what.

    Competitive insecurities [4:25]

We all deserve our own experience [7:38]

Why are you holding on to your insecurities? [9:01]

The mental energy taken up by insecurities [10:00]

Our childhood wounds follow us [13:17]

Your adult self can accept what your child self couldn’t [15:08]

Self-hate never brings lasting change [17:59]

    Insecurity is not reality [22:14]

Peace is so much more valuable [23:29]

You have more to offer than just your body [25:48]

Ep. 354: [Not] Caring What Others Think Jan 28, 2023
    Show notes

Even the most confident among us get hit with feelings of inadequacy from time to time. Worry about what the “tribe” thinks about us is in our DNA, but at some point that concern stops being helpful. You deserve to be liked for all that you are, and if the people in your life don’t like that, then fuck those bitches! Kidding, of course, but also not kidding. You truly can’t be liked by every single person, and the only opinion that matters at the end of the day is yours. If YOU like you, then you’re not doing too bad.

Is it helpful to worry about what others think? [1:24]

Am I showing up as the most authentic version of myself? [3:02]

    Checking your insecurities [6:14]

Security and authenticity are attractive [9:58]

Affirm who you are to yourself [12:07]

It all starts with self-acceptance [14:01]

    Practical pessimism [17:19]

    It’s okay to care [19:04]

Ep. 353: Defining Your Core Values Jan 25, 2023
    Show notes

Our value systems are deeply personal and influence almost everything we do in our lives. We all have core values, whether they’re obvious to us or not. Getting clear on what our values are can help us find direction in work, play, love, and life. It’s often said that you teach people how to treat you, and with a defined set of values, you get to set the tone for your interactions and future choices. Not all things in this life can be important, and when you know what your core values are, you have the freedom to focus on what really matters to you.

    Why are values important? [1:59]

Your values guide your expectations and your business [5:55]

It’s nice to know what you stand for [8:39]

Some questions to help you understand your own value system [10:22]

You have to define what your values really mean to you [13:13]

    What are your anti-values? [15:21]

Running tough decisions through your core values [17:36]

Not everything can be important all the time [21:27]

Ep. 352: Leaving A Relationship for the Unknown Jan 20, 2023
    Show notes

Relationships are tricky, and it’s normal to wonder what life might look like outside of the one you’re in. Things get even stickier when the person you’re with is the only person you’ve ever known. We had a listener bravely share her doubts and confusion surrounding her relationship and her feelings of curiosity about what lies beyond and we wanted to give this more thought. We all only have one life, and spending it less than satisfied only hurts us down the road, but is there a clear answer in a situation like this? Can you trust yourself enough to jump into the unknown?

Curiosity about what’s outside your relationship [1:16]

You can’t just make feelings go away [3:04]

We can want two different things at the same time [5:31]

    Honesty is powerful [7:50]

    Exploring open relationships [9:19]

Trusting yourself to handle whatever comes up [11:22]

Both people deserve to get their needs met [12:45]

Betraying yourself never leads to good outcomes [14:23]

You’ll know when you know [16:27]

Things turn out the way they’re meant to [18:28]

    Ep. 351: Non-Consensual Coaching Jan 19, 2023
    Show notes

Everyone knows *that guy.* You know, the guy who comes up to you at parties (or makes comments on your social media) acting like a life coach, and telling you all the ways you’re doing life wrong. Yeah, that guy sucks. Hey we get it, we’re coaches too, and when you see someone doing something and you know there’s a better way, it’s only natural to try to help! But has unsolicited advice worked well in the history of anything? Life is a journey, and it’s for the best that we let people take their journeys at their own pace. Let’s keep coaching consensual.

Let people ask for help [3:21]

    Well-intentioned tone-deafness [6:53]

    Pulling status ruins connection [9:07]

Making assumptions about what others are going through [13:18]

The right and wrong time to put your coach hat on [14:59]

Finding connection before you coach [18:25]

Giving answers is less powerful than self discovery [20:37]

We don’t always know the better path [24:23]

The comment section is not for coaching [28:37]

Ep. 350: Has Vanity Sizing Gone Too Far? Jan 13, 2023
    Show notes

Everyone knows buying clothing as a woman is a goddamn zoo. What’s a small one one brand is a large in another, but a 7 in a third, and a 31 in another, and all of a sudden you have no idea what size you are in any brand and you just want to buy some damn pants. Clothing retailers are known to implement “vanity sizing,” aka, labelling clothes as smaller sizes to make the buyer feel better about themselves. Why the hell are we even letting clothing sizes determine our self worth anyways?! Yeah, we live in a society where people are unfairly judged by how much space they take up, and it sucks! So why are we perpetuating that bullshit to ourselves? Sizes should be meant to help us find clothes that fit us, let's take the judgement out of it.

    Vanity sizing [0:59]

We don’t need to give a shit about sizes [4:02]

Can we create new “labels” for sizes? [7:02]

    Arbitrary judgements over sizes [10:52]

Working on our perception of different bodies [13:34]

Giving away your power to a random size [16:47]

    Ep. 349: When Does Self-Development Become Self-Obsession? Jan 12, 2023
    Show notes

It seems like everyone is an Insta-Therapist these days. People are looking for diagnoses, taking personality tests, uncovering trauma, and deeply psychoanalyzing themselves… but to what end? Sure, life is really hard sometimes, and sure understanding why you are the way you are can make you feel a lot less alone, but that kind of self-awareness only helps when you decide to make a change for yourself. Self-discovery is important, but only if you let it fuel you to make better choices in the future. After all, you’re not the main character of the universe. Over-identifying with your past can’t make a better future.

This episode is brought to you by BetterHelp.

    Can self-development turn into self-obsession? [4:39]

Creating an identity around diagnoses and traits [8:14]

You can choose to depersonalize the past [11:17]

    It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy [15:53]

    A form of self-discovery [16:40]

An explanation doesn’t take away responsibility [19:16]

You can’t change the past, but you can let go [21:45]

The chicken or the egg? [24:03]

    Instagram buzzwords [26:07]

Your perception is always a choice [29:03]

Making a new decision based on your self-awareness [33:00]

Ep. 348: Is It Healthy to Have Fights in Your Relationship? Jan 06, 2023
    Show notes

We’ve heard some people claim that the “real” test of a good relationship is one without any fights. Yeah, we’re gonna call BS on that one. If your relationship is fight-free, great! But when you’re building a life with someone, it’s normal to find yourself butting heads. A healthy relationship is less so defined by a lack of fighting, and more by having productive and respectful fights. When you disagree with your partner and practice vulnerability, you get the chance to come even closer together, and to strengthen the bond you share. That sounds like a gift to us.

The test of a good relationship [2:56]

    The gift in disagreeing [3:31]

Defining what a “fight” is [6:14]

Can we be okay with disagreeing? [9:44]

A right and a wrong way to fight [11:33]

    Understanding your own sensitivities [14:26]

    Courage and vulnerability [17:25]

    Leading by example [21:27]

Your relationship needs to feel joyful [24:01]

Ep. 347: How to Make (& Keep) New Year's Resolutions Jan 04, 2023
    Show notes

New year, new you? New Year's resolutions have a bad rap, but goal and intention setting can be potent tools for growth, as long as they’re used correctly. Some people like to set a word to focus on for the year, others like to list out every little thing they’d like to change about themselves, but we sit somewhere in the middle. Those things are great, but a goal or intention is only as useful as the actions you take to back those things off. And if you fall off the wagon, it’s better to get back on than giving up entirely! If you’re thinking about setting some resolutions this year, you’ve gotta back it up with action.

Setting an intention for the year in a word [4:39]

    Feelings + actions = intentions [7:03]

    Excitement isn’t a solution [9:35]

Biting off more than you can chew [13:20]

Reverse engineering your big goals [15:36]

How bad do you want it? [17:46]

Get clinical about your goals [20:22]

    The all-or-nothing mindset [24:25]

Look at the bigger picture [29:01]

What are you making your goals mean? [31:18]

    Ep. 346: Reflections on 2022 Dec 30, 2022
    Show notes

Another year older, and fingers crossed, we’re another year wiser. Even if we aren’t fans of resolution setting, we do like to take some time at the end of the year to reflect on all the things we’ve learned over the last 365 days. If you want to make 2023 a better and happier year, it’s important to take stock of all the best and the worst parts of 2022, so you can walk into the new year with a fresh mindset!

The ways we’ve changed in the past 5 years [2:06]

What got you here won’t get you there [3:22]

    Only intentional healing, heals [5:49]

    Finally achieving relationship peace [9:15]

Invest in your physical and mental health [11:47]

Longevity comes from embracing change [14:27]

The future belongs to those willing to learn [19:05]

Projecting onto others what you see in yourself [19:51]

Taking stock of what worked and what didn’t [24:49]
