Ep. 365: Making Menopause Your Bitch with Esther Blum Mar 08, 2023
    Show notes

Menopause comes for all of us, whether we’re ready for it or not. We’re all about embracing getting older, but shit, it would be nice to at least feel good about our bodies as we age! Today we’re chatting with Integrative RD + Menopause Expert,Esther Blum, about her new book, “See You Later, Ovulator” and how to make menopause your bitch. For so long, women have faced medical gaslighting around our hormones and what happens in our bodies through peri-menopause and beyond. Fuck that! It’s time to be our own advocates and get our hormones in check. Being a woman over 50 doesn’t mean we have to go bald or look like men anymore! We deserve to look and feel our best, no matter our age.

Ep. 364: How To Not Hate Your Changing Body Mar 03, 2023
    Show notes

Our relationships with our bodies is complicated and try as we might not to care, we still get hits of insecurity from time to time. Bodies change, and not always in ways we’re thrilled about. So when your body is getting you down, what do you do? We are all so much more than the way we look, and instead of hating your body for what it does or doesn’t look like, it might be time to show it some gratitude for what it can do. Nothing is forever, so even if you’re feeling like shit now, pick up a paintbrush, go for a walk, or even just lean in to your “winter” body.

Ep. 363: How to Be the Bigger Person Mar 01, 2023
    Show notes

As much as we all love being petty (and you know we’re good at it, too) there is something to be said about being the “bigger person.” While the un-evolved versions of ourselves might like pointing out when Brenda is acting like an idiot, that kind of negativity never brought out the best in anyone. Whether you realize it or not, people are looking to you to see how you act. Are you proud of the way you handle conflict? Do you respond to situations rather than react? Maybe it’s less “fun” tone the bigger person, but the way we show up in conflict matters.

Are you obligated to be the “bigger person”? [2:56]

What would the most-evolved you do? [6:09]

    What’s your long-term goal? [7:03]

Are you proud of the words you say? [9:19]

Standing up for yourself vs. lashing out [14:01]

The moments between feeling and acting [17:07]

Being mindful about who’s eyes are on you [19:45]

Ep. 362: Is Your Non-Toxic Lifestyle Actually Toxic? Feb 24, 2023
    Show notes

There’s a ton of buzz going around about living a toxin-free life and (much like most things on the internet) it’s getting a little toxic. Yeah most things in this life are probably poison but my god, Brenda, can you just like chill for a sec? You probably aren’t going to die because your water isn’t perfectly filtered, or not everything you eat is organic, or your pants are a synthetic material, or—heaven forbid—you put on deodorant. It’s definitely for the best that we all pay attention to the things in, on, and around our bodies but it doesn’t help anyone to enforce non-toxic perfection through shame. We’ll do our best in whatever ways we can, and that’s okay! And Brenda? You can pry our deodorant out of our cold, dead hands.

Dropping everything “toxic” about our lives [1:05]

Our bodies are less fragile than we think [3:18]

You need to be exposed to germs in order to fight them [7:35]

Focus on the big dial movers first [10:21]

A false sense of control [13:17]

    Fear-mongering and a lack of nuance [15:15]

Nobody likes being shamed into change [17:02]

You can’t do it all, so what can you do? [19:36]

Ep. 361: When Is Insta-Therapy Right For You? Feb 22, 2023
    Show notes

When shit hits the fan in life, we find ourselves scrambling for advice. But in a world where anyone can become an “Insta-therapist” there’s tons of conflicting advice online that can leave us more lost and confused than before. In these moments of confusion and vulnerability, we have to practice discernment and realize that what’s not for you is simply not for you. Instead, try focusing on simply taking care of yourself and tuning out all of the background noise. You got this!

    Ep. 360: Losing Your Ex's Family After a Breakup Feb 17, 2023
    Show notes

Breakups are hard enough already, losing a person you love is one of the most painful human experiences. There’s a lot grief to be fat and managed, but one of the unspoken difficulties of a breakup has nothing to do with losing your partner: it’s losing their family, too. We get close with our partner’s parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, and even children and when you lose that person you lose everything that comes with them. Sometimes those relationships can be maintained, and sometimes they can’t. Either way, things will unfold the way they do, and it’s up to us to trust the experience as it happens.

    Family members choosing sides [3:38]

New partners meeting ex family members [7:13]

    Navigating respect [9:53]

The choice to emotionally detach [14:33]

    A friendship your ex [17:42]

Allowing things to unfold the way they unfold [21:55]

Make healing a choice and trust the journey [24:43]

Ep. 359: What it Means to Be Authentic Feb 15, 2023
    Show notes

There’s something so magnetic about a person who shows up authentically. There’s deeper trust built for the people who show off their ups and downs, their strengths and their weaknesses, the good times and the bad. None of us have it “together” all the time, and there’s something unnerving about people who seem too perfect to be true. Real trust and connection is built through showing up authentically, and that authenticity takes repetition and getting uncomfortable, just like growing a muscle.

Owning your strengths and weaknesses [4:08]

Trust and belief are built in the struggle [7:27]

When is the “right” time to share your struggles? [9:50]

    Vulnerability takes courage [14:07]

    Courage builds confidence [17:09]

    Sharing is healing [22:00]

It’s okay to have weaknesses [23:15]

You never have to do it all [29:45]

Ep. 358: What Valentine's Day Means to You Feb 10, 2023
    Show notes

We’re just a few days out from everyone’s FAVORITE holiday: Valentine’s Day! Okay, obviously we’re joking because we can’t even think of a holiday that’s more polarizing. Hallmark-Holiday or not, it’s a day that carries a lot of meaning for some (maybe even you!) but unless you tell the people around you how it makes you feel, you’ll never get your needs met! Love is what you make of it, and so is February 14th. But you might want to make sure you know what that day means to your loved ones, too.

A day to prioritize your relationship [6:36]

Something “fabricated” can still be useful [9:47]

Communicating what Valentine’s means to you [12:36]

It can be about more than romantic love [15:30]

Holidays carry different meaning to different people [18:01]

Ep. 357: The Fear of Being Included Feb 08, 2023
    Show notes

We’ve all heard of—and experienced—FOMO, but there’s a new acronym we’ve been feeling lately: FOBI, or the fear of being included. Maybe it’s a symptom of aging or being in relationships, but these days we just don’t feel like doing stuff like we used to. Our energy is precious and with the limited time we do have, is going to every party or dinner or event the best idea? Not so much anymore. We’re trading in our FOMO for FOBI and we like it better this way.

The Fear of Being Included [5:15]

Is FOBI a symptom of relationships or aging? [7:06]

Being invited vs. being included [10:36]

Rest to protect your energy [13:55]

    It’s not a dig on the other person/people [16:57]

Give yourself permission to say no [19:44]

    Age brings discernment [21:26]

Ep. 356: You Have Daddy Issues Feb 03, 2023
    Show notes

You have Daddy issues. Probably. But don’t sweat it, we all do! Our fathers and mothers are the first two adults that show us how to act and what to expect from life, and most of us subconsciously tend to recreate exactly what we experience in childhood, or at least attempt to find the very opposite of it. We look for what’s familiar and often our partners look exactly like our main caregivers (hey, men aren’t immune to this, either!). But just because you *probably* have Daddy issues doesn’t mean it’s a death sentence or that you’re doomed to love junior versions of your dad forever… but you maaaay find yourself falling into some interesting patterns if you’re not careful.

How our parents influence the partners we choose [2:55]

We subconsciously choose what’s familiar [5:03]

We act like our parents, too [9:06]

The things that lay under the surface [11:05]

Do we recreate our wounds in order to feel right? [14:52]

Awareness isn’t enough to change a pattern [20:21]

    Daddy’s girls and Momma’s boys [24:41]
