Ep. 425: Healing From Relationship PTSD Oct 04, 2023
    Show notes

We talk a lot about the struggles of being stuck in an unhealthy or toxic relationship—and rightfully so—but there isn’t much being said about how hard it can be in your first relationship after something toxic. Old triggers die hard, and even if your new boo hasn’t done anything to give you concern, you might still be holding on to anxiety and hyper-vigilance from your past. Or even worse—you could be attracting the same type of unhealthy relationship over and over again. For better or for worse, you can’t run from the past, so you’ll have to heal one way or another. We’re with you every step of the way, Bestie.

Ep. 423: Making Friends with Your Family with Danny Coleman Sep 28, 2023
    Show notes

We got 5-peat guest, Danny Coleman, on the show today! Danny Coleman is Jill’s younger brother and one thing the Colemans do well is great family relationships—even if it hasn’t always been easy. We don’t believe that you have to like your family just because they’re family. Good relationships take effort, whether it’s a romantic partner, best friend, or your parents and siblings. Today, Jill and Danny are discussing what makes their relationship bond so special and how you can work on creating a better dynamic with your family.

Ep. 422: "Victim Blaming" on Social Media Sep 22, 2023
    Show notes

There are tons of terms that get thrown around the internet and it’s hard to know what’s what at times. Today we wanted to chat about victim blaming—when is it really an issue, and when are people just being a little over dramatic? Believe it or not, words have real meanings and you can’t always take them out of context to serve whatever narrative you want. Real victims deserve our compassion, but you can’t just make yourself one because you don’t like what someone posts online.

Guilt and shame around masturbation [5:04]

    What is victim blaming? [8:11]

Words taken out of context [12:21]

Cheapening the meaning of words for true victims [17:20]

Insecurity is part of the human experience [19:09]

    Holding space for victims [23:26]

Who are you giving control to? [26:06]

So much has changed since then, including long-term relationships for both women. Jill has interviewed Keith for the show before, but it’s been a while and we thought it was time to check back in. Ep. 420: What is Your Sexual Market Value Sep 16, 2023
    Show notes

There’s a trend going around on some corners of the internet defining people—usually, defining women—by their Sexual Market Value. Your SMV is defined by things like physique, income, and even the number of people you’ve slept with and to be honest, it’s a load of bullshit. The qualities that make someone attractive are so subjective, and besides, we shouldn’t be basing our worth based on how fuckable we may or may not be to some dude named Brad with a Twitter account. There are so many more important things to care about in this life, your “SMV” shouldn’t be at the top.

    Your Sexual Market Value [2:24]

    What determines your SMV [5:52]

    Relationship vs. hookup material [7:12]

What makes a “high value” woman [9:42]

Building self worth on subjective measurements [12:34]

    A relationship is not the end-all, be-all [15:08]

Change for YOU, not a partner [19:25]

Ep. 419: How To Get Your Partner to Communicate Better Sep 13, 2023
    Show notes

We know you shouldn’t be falling in love with someone’s potential, but is it fair to your partner to push them towards being a better communicator? If you listen to this podcast, chances are you’re interested in personal development, but just because you’re trying to improve yourself doesn’t mean you can force your partner to be interested in the same things. Becoming a better communicator is at the heart of so many day-to-day issues, but the only thing you can really do is lead by example. If you set the stage for healthy communication, hopefully your partner can learn from you.

Getting your partner to become a better communicator [2:14]

A tool to brush up on communication skills [5:15]

    Identifying your emotions first [8:16]

    Leading by example [12:36]

Enjoying the ways you’re different than your partner [13:48]

Creating a safe space to communicate [16:04]

    The “3 S’s” of communication [19:14]

Curiosity + the grace to mess up [24:02]

Not everything has to be communicated all the time [29:05]

Ep. 418: Falling In Love With Someone's Potential Sep 08, 2023
    Show notes

Have you ever loved the idea of what someone *could* be, more than the person that they actually are? There’s danger in falling in love with someone’s potential. Some people are happy to be challenged by their partners, but there’s a fine line between challenging them to reach their dreams and setting expectations that your partner can’t reach, or never wanted in the first place. You’ll find a lot more peace in letting your partner tell you who they want to be, rather than attempting to force them into being who you wish they were.

Falling in love with someone’s potential [1:55]

Putting expectations on how your partner lives their life [3:26]

Listen to your partner’s dreams [6:15]

Can you be okay if your partner never changes? [8:55]

More acceptance leads to greater change [12:28]

    We’re always changing [14:10]

You don’t have to want all of the same things [17:38]

Don’t set expectations too high [20:23]

Encouragement pushes further than shame [23:00]

Ep. 417: Breaking Out of Your Monotonous Life Sep 06, 2023
    Show notes

Are you living out the plot of Groundhog Day—every day you wake up and life is just the same over, and over, and over again? So many people get complacent in their lives and dream of a way out, but without ever making any changes. No doubt about it, life is busy and stressful and it’s hard as hell to get out of the rat race, but if you want something different, you have to DO something different. We’re so grateful we decided on an entrepreneurial journey so many years ago, but if you’re craving the same things later in your life, it’s never too late to get started. We want to live a life we don’t feel like escaping from, and we want that for you, too. You have to start somewhere, sometime. Why not start now?

    Jury Duty [1:50]

    Living a monotonous life [6:24]

Having empathy for what people are actually going through [7:55]

    Planning your life decisions [10:15]

Something else is always possible [12:40]

Making one big decision to change your life [14:03]

It’s never “too late” to start [15:55]

Taking a step back in order to take a step forward [17:29]

Give yourself time to make your dreams work [19:08]

    Releasing ego [22:09]

It’s easier than ever to just get started [24:28]

Ep. 416: How Much Venting Is Too Much Venting? Sep 01, 2023
    Show notes

We all need to vent about the shitty moments in our lives, but there’s a thin line between venting and complaining. Our partners are often our sounding boards to life’s frustrations, but what do you do when your partner says you’re too negative? How can you tell what the right amount of venting is, or the right time to do it? Your partner should be able to hold space for you, but they’re only human, too, and sometimes they just want to fix it, but don’t know how.

    A problem-solver’s frustration [2:52]

The thin line between venting and complaining [6:51]

    Seasons of extra stress [7:58]

Viewing your partner in absolutes [10:44]

See things from the other’s perspective [14:13]

Venting doesn’t need to be a long conversation [15:29]

    Timing matters, too [17:42]

    Surfing the discomfort [20:24]

It’s okay to defend yourself! [22:29]
