    The Ben Azadi Show

Your body isn’t broken. It’s blocked.Twenty years ago Ben Azadi was obese, exhausted, and convinced something was permanently wrong with him. Nothing was. His cells weren’t getting the signal. Once they did, everything changed — and it’s stayed changed for two decades.

Ben is a 2x New York Times bestselling author (Metabolic Freedom, Keto Flex), international keynote speaker, and a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner. But here’s what he’s learned after two decades and thousands of transformations: knowing what to do isn’t what changes your life. Becoming the person who actually does it — that’s what changes your life.

That’s what this show is built for. Three episodes a week, each with a job:

Metabolic Monday — Conversations with world-renowned doctors, researchers, and health experts on the latest breakthroughs in metabolic health and longevity. Fasting, insulin resistance, stubborn belly fat, hormones, mitochondria, blood sugar, gut health, ketosis, carnivore, and biohacking — translated into something you can actually run this week.

Transformation Tuesday — The mindset, habits, and daily practices behind following through. Paradigms, self-image, identity, and the inner work that makes results permanent instead of temporary.

Freedom Friday — Real conversations about freedom in every area of life. Not just metabolic freedom, but freedom with your time, your purpose, your energy, and the way you show up in the world.

If you’re over 40 and doing everything right while the scale won’t move — start here.

Ben’s mission is to educate one billion people. You’re one of them.

New episodes every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.

Dr Robert Cywes MD, Dopamine Fasting Serotonin Loading, Sugar Addiction, & The Truth Behind The Keto Diet & Diabetes :KKP 118 Mar 16, 2020
    Show notes

Today we welcome a specialist in Weight Management and Bariatric Surgery for adults and adolescents, Dr. Robert Cywes. He has been doing bariatric surgery for 18 years, performing over 8,000 surgeries.

Dr. Cywes’ medical training began in Cape Town, South Africa, where he received his medical degree from The University of Cape Town. In 1989, Dr. Cywes moved to North America and completed a year-long residency in Pediatric Surgery at Ohio State University’s Columbus Children’s Hospital.

After completing his pediatric surgery fellowship at the University of Michigan’s C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, Dr. Cywes was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Pediatric and Fetal Surgery at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee where he did hepatic stem cell research. During this time, Dr. Cywes became increasingly interested in adolescent obesity and the impact of the liver and metabolic syndrome on young patients.

Dr. Cywes’ research led to a comprehensive understanding of the toxicity of chronic excessive carbohydrate consumption as the primary cause of obesity and so-called obesity-related co-morbidities, and he became interested in developing a clinical program to treat obese patients using this knowledge.

Dr. Cywes relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where he joined the Department of Pediatric Surgery at the Nemours Children’s Clinic and Wolfson Children’s Hospital. This led to a national meeting in Jacksonville where guidelines for adolescent obesity surgery were established.

Dr. Cywes established JSAPA to continue his work in both adolescent and adult obesity treatment and surgery, and in 2013 opened a practice in Palm Beach County, Florida. He now works with a highly experienced team of professionals from a variety of medical sub-specialties to better care for obese patients. He has developed the practice into an internationally recognized Center of Excellence for obesity surgery. The practice uses a cognitive behavioral therapy approach that addresses carbohydrate addiction, along with bariatric surgery, to help patients manage their obesity long term.

In this episode, Dr. Cywes opens the show discussing the correlation between carbohydrates and toxic drugs. Our bodies do not need to run on sugar; our bodies prefer a keto lifestyle. Also, Dr. Cywes explains effective methods of treating diabetes and what's wrong with conventional treatments. Stay tuned, as Dr. Cywes discusses dopamine fasting, serotonin loading, and how our feedback controls for survival work.

    [01:10] About Dr. Cywes

    • Cywes recognized the connection between carbohydrates and toxic drugs within himself. Addicts are usually not able to see how bad it is within themselves.
    • He moved to Canada, where he completed his general surgery residency and specialized in Minimally Invasive Surgery at the University of Toronto.
    • Also, Dr. Cywes earned a Ph.D. in Liver Carbohydrate Metabolism and the effect of glucose metabolism on liver transplant immunology.
    • Cywes learned that the body doesn’t need to run on sugar. In fact, it prefers a keto method of running. He also learned that fatty liver doesn’t come from the consumption of fat. It happens from infusing insulin and sugar.

    [10:00] About LDL

    • LDL is a complex molecule. It’s a truck on the road transporting fat on your body. LDL will lay down fat over an injury. HDL will come along and remove the fat.
    • LDL is not causing the injury; it’s desperately trying to heal the injury.
    • Think of the liver like a subdivision. You have all the houses which are the different cells. Tiny roads that go to each house. Think about a bunch of garbage that blocks the road. You can’t get food and oxygen downstream to those cells. Eventually, those cells will die. As you infuse sugar into the liver, you will see that swelling.

[14:15] The Difference Between Ketosis and Diabetic Ketoacidosis

    • The difference between ketosis and diabetic ketoacidosis is 5.5 – 6 grams of sugar.
    • It’s half to one gram difference. It’s an incredibly small difference.
    • An apple has 25 grams of sugar in it. That’s a five-fold increase in blood sugar.
    • Think about how resilient the body is to take sugar out of the bloodstream.

[16:15] Flaws With Conventional Approaches to Diabetes

    • Nothing fixes diabetes. Drugs just slow down the process. Once someone goes on the drugs, they are told to eat sugar.
    • There is a misconception that the body has to have sugar.
    • If you don’t have carbs going in, then you are not going to have the type 2 effect.
    • If you manage your blood sugar tightly, you don’t have insulin resistance.
    • Chronic carbohydrate consumption will cause resistance.
    • If the body protects itself by resistance, then it doesn’t matter what the source of the insulin is.
    • A1C is an injury to blood cells because they are damaged.

    [20:35] Effectively Treating Diabetes

    • If we are going to treat diabetes effectively, we have to understand how our body protects itself.
    • We can treat diabetes without sugar.
    • We are relying on people who are dependent on the diabetic manufacturing industry to tell us not to eat sugar. It’s counter-productive.
    • How do you tell people that statins are unnecessary?
    • No one can get their hands on an inexpensive CGM. You cannot manage a type 2 diabetic without a CGM. Yet, because of the FDA, these things are so expensive that people cannot afford them. CGMs safe lives.

[23:40] The Best Feedback Instrument to Lose Weight

    • The best instrument to lose weight is a CGM.
    • The worst device to lose weight is a scale.
    • You can eat a tub of ice cream, and the scale will go down. You can do a 24 hour fast, and the scale will go up.
    • As soon as you put the first spoon of ice cream in your mouth, your CGM will be alarming.

[26:30] Our Bodies Have Feedback Controls for Survival

    • For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
    • If something is not necessary for human survival, then it doesn’t have a feedback system.
    • The systems are very complex at the interface level. The human body will use one molecule to create a whole variety of downstream effects.
    • It is ridiculous to tell people to drink water. Your body knows when it needs water - it will rarely allow yourself to get thirsty. There is no need for a mathematical formula to tell us when to drink.
    • Alcohol is not necessary for survival. There is no stopping point for our bodies. That is why we have a mathematical formula for when to stop drinking.
    • The human body has no need to know when you should stop eating. There is no feedback control for the consumption of carbohydrates.
    • People are not fat loading their food, they are fat overloading. It’s not okay to eat a lump of butter with steak attached. Overeating fat will make you feel like crap afterward.
    • Part of keto is allowing your body to tell you when it has had enough.

[40:30] Keto is a Metabolic State

    • There is so much bullshit in nutrition science.
    • The best place to go to is understanding the complexity of human biology.
    • Human beings changed to become better with our brains. To develop brain function, we needed a more significant source of animal fat. We hunted and primarily lived on coastlines with easy access to water and seafood. Our brains need animal fat.
    • Human beings evolved to become omnivores. Our primary focus is on the carnivore diet when we don’t have access to animal fat.
    • If you have to supplement your food with pills, then you are not on a complete diet.

[48:30] Dopamine Fasting and Serotonin Loading

    • Carbohydrates are a drug and not food.
    • When you get rid of carbohydrates, they will leave deficits.
    • People don’t understand that the main reason they overuse carbohydrates is because they have a dysfunctional relationship with a substance that gives them instant gratification.
    • If you have a rough day and eat a tub of ice cream; then you’ve had instant gratification.
    • Going on a walk requires effort. However, it allows you to process tough issues that drive emotions.
    • A healthy person can focus for 20 minutes, then they give themselves a serotonin break like a sip of coffee or a deep breath.
    • We have lost track of effective serotonin relief.
    • Go for a walk, do something charitable, do something creative.

    [00:50] Dr. Berry’s Favorite Tool

    • Lowering carbohydrates is Dr. Berry’s favorite tool. People will benefit from simply turning down the carbs.
    • Eat more meat! Even the cheapest processed meat will be better than eating carbs.
    • Meat is the powerhouse of nutrition.
    • If you can afford better quality meat, it will be like taking a multivitamin.
    • The vitamins and minerals in meat are hugely bioavailable and more easily absorbed.

[09:30] What Do Skin Tags Mean?

    • There are rare genetics anomalies that can cause you to have lots of skin tags.
    • For the average person, a skin tag means you are hyperinsulinemia. This means excess levels of insulin are circulating in the blood relative to the level of glucose.
    • You will sunburn more easily and be more susceptible to skin cancer.
    • People who are keto for six months will realize that their skin tags are all gone.
    • Going keto will fix your hyperinsulinemia.

[20:00] Why Keto is so Popular

    • There is not a multibillion-dollar corporation that is pushing keto.
    • People talk about how the keto lifestyle works for them.
    • Weight Watchers is full of processed food and leaves you hungry for hours. Keto is a grassroots movement.
    • Multiple corporations are trying to put out the keto fire.
    • We are all rediscovering the proper human diet. The bulk of your diet should be some type of fatty meat. You want a lot of fatty meat if you are going to be a healthy human being.
    • You can’t make billions of dollars from the proper human diet because it doesn’t consist of products. It consists of whole foods like meat, nuts, and vegetables.

    [24:00] Where Should You Start?

    • Three simple steps when starting out:
      • Get rid of all sugar from your diet.
      • Stop eating all grains.
      • Stop eating all industrial seed oils.
    • After cutting these three things, you can figure out what else will work best for you.
    • The next step is not to buy anything that has “keto” or “low-carb” in the name. You do not need these things to do low-carb or keto right. Keto is real and whole foods.

    [29:30] Getting Knocked Off Keto

    • Stop trusting keto products! Those people just want to make a lot of money. To make a product that is tasty, they are going to have to use net carbs.
    • Industrial seed oils are shelf-stable. They are terrible for your long-term health and nutrition.
    • Throw away your canola oil. It’s dangerous for human consumption.
    • You can start off doing keto really well. Then, you start to have little bites of carbs. However, those carbs will add up.
    • You do not need three meals and three snacks a day. Protein will elevate your insulin. Carbs will also raise your insulin. Do not bring your old eating habits to keto.
    • Fast for at least sixteen hours a day. Do not eat outside of your eight-hour eating window.

[37:20] Our DNA is Wise and Intelligent

    • Our body does not need help or input. Our bodies just need us to not do stupid things.
    • Fasting is ancient! There is nothing new about it.
    • All major religions have some type of fasting involved.
    • Food corporations are not interested in talking about fasting because their profits will suffer during a fast.
    • Our bodies are ancient and intelligent. When our bodies are not eating, then we give our body time to repair.

Dr Daniel Pompa, How Intermittent Fasting Works For Weight Loss & Autophagy :KKP 115 Mar 09, 2020
    Show notes

Today, I am blessed to have here with me, a well-known medical trainer and detoxification expert, Dr. Pompa. The people of Africa have a saying that before one can have authority, one must first experience victory. Having battled and emerged victorious over a debilitating battle with chronic fatigue syndrome, Dr. Dan Pompa has embraced his God-given mission to assist others who face similar challenges.

Dr. Pompa earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Life University’s College of Chiropractic in Marietta, Georgia in 1995 where he graduated second in a class of 150. His journey back to health continued to lead him to a voracious passion to research and learning beyond what is often readily understood. He and his family live in Park City, Utah.

Even though Dr. Pompa no longer practices chiropractic, his understanding of cellular healing and his “5R Principles” as the “roadmap” to healing has led to many requests to be a speaker at large chiropractic seminars to hundreds of professionals who learn of his detoxification program for neurotoxic conditions and other unexplainable illnesses. In 2004, spiritual leaders and health care practitioners hosted Dr. Pompa’s teachings on health and healing principles and the dangerous misuse of western medicine in Zimbabwe, South Africa.

In this episode, Dr. Pompa opens the show revealing the critical benefits of fasting. There are more than seven benefits, by the way! Autophagy is the most significant phase of your fast. Dr. Pompa explains how to reach autophagy and some common signs that you should stop fasting. Stay tuned as Dr. Pompa reveals the varying ways to fast and the problems with Kombucha and Airpods.

[01:00] The Key Benefits of Fasting

    • Autophagy: the body will get amino acids to heal by getting rid of bad cells.
    • Stimulating Stem Cells: it will create new cells that are younger, stronger, and better.
    • Energy Diversion: when you are eating food, it takes so much energy to process the food. When you are not eating, it takes the extra energy and diverts it.
    • Hormone Optimization: when we look at healthy people, they don’t have high hormone levels.
    • Reset Your Genes: stressors of life will trigger genes. Genetically, we are programmed to fast to reset your genes.
    • Reset Your Microbiome: you don’t fix a bad gut by ingesting more bacteria.
    • Ketones: we need high ketones to heal.

[07:45] When Does Autophagy Start in a Fast?

    • Fifteen years for metabolically healthy people.
    • If you’re a sugar burner, then it will take you a lot longer to reach autophagy in a fast.
    • The people that struggle to get fat-adapted will never really hit the autophagy numbers.
    • Be fat adapted to achieve maximum autophagy.

    [08:55] Intermittent Fasting Schedule

    • When do you want to eat? Pick a window.
    • Look at how metabolically flexible you are. Measure your glucose and ketones first thing in the morning. As you fast, your glucose should drop, and your ketones should rise. If that’s not happening, maybe you will need to broaden your window.
    • As you start fasting more, then you can begin expanding your fasting window.
    • Pompa eats within a 3-4 hour window.

[17:20] Drinking Coffee and Tea During a Fast

    • Measure your glucose right before your coffee and then again right after. If your glucose is rising, then it’s not good for you.
    • Coffee can stimulate glucose in some people.
    • You don’t necessarily have to stop drinking coffee and tea. You might want to try drinking it black or drinking it with fats. You can also try drinking decaffeinated.
    • Make sure you are not shutting down autophagy.
    • Change up your coffee brand to get better results.

    [19:40] About Block Fasting

    • Block fasting is for an extended fast. You take blocks of time to fast throughout the year. You get the most autophagy on a water fast.
    • As you go through the fast, you get more autophagy.
    • You do not want to run a marathon without training.
    • There is a way to train yourself in order to maximize your results.
    • Typically, a person will not get max autophagy until day four. Max stem cells will happen on day five.
    • The best benefits happen at five days. The shortest fast should be for three days.
    • We are all programmed to fast.

    [30:20] About Partial Fasting

    • A partial fast is when you bring calories under a 1,000.
    • Restrict both calories and protein. If you eat too much protein, it will shut off autophagy. Get under the 20 gram of protein mark. Keep carbs under 50 grams. You can do this with foods that you already know work for you.
    • Bone broth fasting is also considered partial fasting. You can always take sea salt to maintain electrolytes.

[35:00] Dealing With The Toxic Load During a Fast

    • If we absorb the toxins, then we can have a successful fast. Get a bind that will sit in your gut.
    • Toxins can bind up with bile, which will be dumped in your gut. Then, your liver will reabsorb the toxins.
    • Take some CytoDetox.
    • You can find necessary detox supplements at com.

    [37:10] About Dry Fasting

    • A dry fast is not eating food or drinking water.
    • Your body needs water. So, your body will start crushing cells to get water.
    • There is a 3 to 1 autophagy vs. a water fast.
    • Even a single day of a dry fast will be remarkable.
    • Try a two day dry fast. It will be the equivalent of six water fasts.
    • Don’t jump out and do a long dry fast right away.
    • A hard, dry fast means no showering or teeth brushing.

[42:10] Signs You Need to Break a Fast

    • There is a point where the body will stop benefiting.
    • You will get a white tongue. Then it might turn yellow or fuzzy black. Later, your tongue will turn pink again. That’s a sign to stop the fast.
    • Weight loss is another sign. If you are losing weight, then you stop, that’s a sign of stopping the fast.
    • If you are hungry again, then you should break the fast.

[47:10] The Problems with Kombucha and Airpods

    • People get addicted to Kombucha.
    • Stop taking your probiotic. You’ll end up with too much of that bacteria.
    • When you drink Kombucha, you will be getting the same bacteria. Change up what brand and type you are drinking.
    • Airpods will cause cellular damage and DNA disruption.

Dr Jolene Brighten, Side Effects of Birth Control Pills, Keto For Women :KKP 112 Mar 02, 2020
    Show notes

We have a prominent leader in women’s medicine, Dr. Jolene Brighten. Dr. Jolene studies the emerging science of Post-Birth Control Syndrome — examining the effects of hormonal birth control on female health.

A fierce patient advocate and completely dedicated to uncovering the root cause of hormonal imbalances, Dr. Brighten empowers women worldwide to take control of their health and their hormones. She is an international speaker, clinical educator, medical advisor within the tech community, and considered a leading authority on women’s health.

Dr. Brighten is also part of the MindBodyGreen Collective and a faculty member for the American Academy of Anti Aging Medicine. Her work has been featured in the New York Post, Forbes, Cosmopolitan, Huffington Post, Bustle, The Guardian, and ABC News.

In this episode, Dr. Brighten opens the show discussing the digestive health issues she had growing up. Eventually, Dr. Brighten realized how big of an impact nutrition has on our everyday health. Plus, Dr. Brighten wants women to know about the enormous problems hormonal birth control can have on women’s bodies and minds. It’s essential that women are educated on the process of birth control and what other options are available. Stay tuned as Dr. Brighten discusses essential fats and what you need to do when detoxifying your body from hormonal birth control.

Dr Phillips CBD Oil, Fruit Chews, Topical Cream | https://www.drphillipscbd.com/ketokamp

    Free Keto Guide | http://www.ketokickstartguide.com

    [00:20] About Dr. Brighten

    • Brighten had digestive issues as a child. After visiting multiple doctors, someone finally realized she had H. pylori.
    • pylori lives in the digestive tract. After many years, they can cause ulcers in the lining of the stomach or the upper part of the small intestine.
    • Brighten treated her H. pylori. The doctor told her she would need medicine for her entire life to subside the heartburn. Dr. Brighten started doing observations about how her diet was affecting her health. She asked her doctor how her diet could prevent the heartburn, and the doctor said it wouldn’t.
    • Brighten started to study naturopathic medicine. She liked the fact that naturopathic medicine would continually ask why.

[09:20] Focusing on Birth Control in Beyond the Pill

    • No one is taking a deep dive into birth control.
    • There are so many hormone books; yet, over a quarter of all women are using birth control. Women shouldn’t have to go to medical school to learn about birth control.
    • Women need to detox their liver and body after hormonal birth control. Most people can do this in two weeks.
    • “You only write a book if you can’t not write that book.” -Dr. Brighten
    • Brighten wrote a book that she wishes she had when she was in her reproductive years. She had no idea what would happen when she went on birth control. Dr. Brighten went through her twenties, thinking this is how it feels to get older.
    • We need significant changes in women's medicine.

    [13:50] Common Birth Control Issues

    • Everyone knows that low libido can happen; they just don’t know that it can happen to them.
    • Birth control can cause insulin issues in some women. If you are on birth control and enter menopause later in life, you are more likely to develop diabetes.
    • Always view everything in the lens that is true for you.
    • The same pill can affect two women very differently. One woman may feel no depression side effects while the other gets crippling depression.
    • Depending on your family history, you could be more likely to develop certain diseases while on birth control.
    • Birth control can cause inflammation, and inflammation can change our mood. Birth control can also cause nutrient deficiency.

[20:35] Symptoms After Stopping Birth Control

    • Getting your period for the first time is a significant hormonal shift.
    • Birth control will stop your brain from talking to your ovaries. When you come off birth control, it’s a big hormonal transition.
    • Some women will lose their period for three to six months.
    • If you’re not getting a period, you may not be getting enough hormones that will protect your entire body.
    • Work with a doctor so you can navigate your hormonal system.
    • Your body is always detoxifying hormones. If your body is deficient in nutrients, then you may be shutting down primary communication in the body. We need to support the liver. Some women may get liver tumors on birth control.
    • Get great sleep! You need deep sleep to recover.
    • Think about the things that you should stop taking in rather than what you should be taking more of.
    • Also, consider the relationships that you have in your life. Do you have a coworker that doesn’t make you happy? Pause from hanging out with them. You don’t have to ditch people forever, but you need to consider your own energy while healing.

[35:40] Saturated Fats and Cholesterol For Hormonal Health

    • When it comes to cholesterol and saturated fats, they are healthy components of a diet. Where are you getting your fat-soluble nutrients from? They will come from eating fats. We need what mother nature made rather than what chemists made.
    • Saturated fats are part of our cellular makeup.
    • Fat-free is the worst thing that you can do to your hormones.
    • There is no bad food – it’s only what works for you and what doesn’t work for you.
    • If you’re having bad cramps, eat more omega-3s.
    • For vegans and vegetarians – you will not have natural estrogen on hormonal birth control. Try eating algae.

    • Getting back to the fundamentals

    About Keith Norris:

Keith is one of those few lucky souls who has been able to completely transition out of corporate America and dive headlong into his passion for bettering lives by teaching the art and science of physical culture. He not only “walks the walk” on a day-to-day basis, but his economic well-being hinges on his precepts of “proper exercise, stellar diet and lifestyle, and intelligent “hacks” and supplementation” forming the bedrock foundation for a long, healthy and prosperous life.

Keith, together with partner Mark Alexander, have molded Austin-based Efficient Exercise into one of the most highly regarded fitness venues in the nation. Keith’s mix of intelligent and highly effective exercise programming, coupled with Mark’s business savvy and proprietary equipment genius have made Efficient Exercise the preeminent wellness authority.

The very essence of Paleo f(x)™ is rooted in the idea of putting theory to practice; an idea that Keith is heavily invested in, having been blogging about these issues since early 2007. And his “30-thousand-foot view” for the Paleo f(x)™ enterprise serves as the movement’s guiding, north star.

And with a belief that intelligent “hacks” can help bridge the gap between our elegant evolutionary programming and sub-par environmental surroundings, Keith is continually ferreting out and backing the most promising of technological enhancements. As a founding partner of ID Life, Keith is helping to usher-in 21st century, optimal supplement dosing.

It might be said that Keith lives by the credo written by the Greek poet and soldier, Archilochus, over 2,600 years ago – “We do not rise to the level of our expectations. We fall to the level of our training”. And his vision for Paleo f(x)™ is that of a battle-tested warrior, preserving the right of everyone to fully, actively and enthusiastically engage in the human experience.

Dr Ralph Esposito, Natural Ways to Boost Testosterone, Favorite Benefits of Intermittent Fasting, Signs of Too Much Fasting :KKP 109 Feb 24, 2020
    Show notes

On today's show, we have a naturopathic physician, acupuncturist, and functional medicine practitioner specializing in integrative urology, men’s health, and nutrigenomics, Dr. Ralph Esposito. His precise and personalized style utilizes a systems biology and precision medicine approach to medicine.

In addition to advising as a peer reviewer for medical journals, he has authored several medical textbook chapters. He has designed education modules for health professionals specifically on urological conditions, male and female hormone dysfunction, hypogonadism, exercise, men’s health, and sexual dysfunction.

Dr. Esposito has trained under Dr. Peter D’Adamo, the originator of Opus23®, at the Center of Excellence in Generative Medicine at the University of Bridgeport, and NYU Integrative and Functional Urology Center. He holds a position as an adjunct professor at New York University, where he lectures on integrative medicine. Currently, Dr. Esposito serves as a medical consultant and research analyst.

In this episode, Dr. Esposito opens the show by diving deep into his background. Then, he reveals what may be causing low testosterone levels in men and common ways to test for the issues. Dr. Esposito describes ways in which men can raise their testosterone levels, including exercise, sleep, and nutrition. Stay tuned as Dr. Esposito names the best exercises to boost testosterone – plus, he gives his take on time restrictive eating and ways to tell if you are overdoing it.

    [00:20] About Dr. Ralph Esposito

    • Esposito watched as his father became medically disabled and heavily medicated. The threat of a family history of chronic disease was a major contributing factor to why he chose to pursue naturopathic medicine when conventional medicine alone was not working.
    • Ralph credits Dr. Geo Espinosa for his mentorship and for allowing him to work with him at the NYU integrative and functional urology center for almost seven years.
    • Esposito continued his work with Dr. Espinosa in research, writing, and education modules. This experience led him to his current position as a medical consultant and research analyst for medical practice in New York.

[03:45] The Culprits of Low Testosterone Levels in Men

    • Is the brain sending a message to the testes to make testosterone? If they get the message, are they making the testosterone? What is the body doing with the testosterone afterward? Once you figure out these answers, then you can figure out the underlying cause.
    • Sleep deprivation and chronic stressors can contribute to low testosterone.
    • A lot of athletes can have issues in the testes and the brain after years of trauma.
    • It’s not so black and white what could be causing the issue.

    [07:40] Testing Male Hormones

    • Ralph will test for various male hormones – including the thyroid hormone. Without the thyroid hormone, you will not be able to produce testosterone.
    • Physicians are misreading labs because they do not understand statistics.
    • How are your hormone levels changing over time?
    • Heavy metals can impair libido. Dr. Ralph’s patients will come to them with heavy metals and complaints about a lack of libido.

[12:00] Using Drugs to Test Testosterone

    • Drugs are the last option. Clomiphene is an estrogen modulator – it blocks the estrogen receptors in the brain. If their testosterone does not go up, there is an issue in the testes.

[15:30] High Estrogen and Low Testosterone

    • High estrogen and low testosterone are signs of metabolic dysfunction.
    • Environmental toxins can cause this. In the past week, Dr. Ralph has read four articles about how the environment is disrupting our health.
    • The most common reason for high estrogen is high insulin levels.

    [17:40] Boosting Testosterone

    • You have to start with the foundations:
      • Exercise
