025 Halloween 3: They Only Removed The Headstones! Oct 31, 2017
    Show notes

Catchy Jingles. Irish robots. Cheap Masks. Stonehenge.

Fresh off killing Michael Myers in Halloween 2, John Carpenter wanted to take the Halloween franchise in a different direction. In a bold choice Carpenter decided to move the franchise from a serial killer stalking teens to a plot focused on Stonehenge-related Halloween masks killing children all over the world. To say this was taking a bold chance would be a massive understatement and it's safe to say that consumers at the time did not reward this gamble.

Halloween 3: Season of the Witch released on October 22, 1982 to mixed-to-negative reviews and ended up making on $14 million in the box office. This number compared to the nearly $100 million the first two movies made in theaters effectively doomed the planned anthology series Carpenter had envisioned and the series has used Michael Myers as the main antagonist ever since.

However, recently the movie has generated something of a comeback and is now starting to be looked upon as an underrated cult classic rather than a one-off mistake.

Join the Texas Podcast Massacre crew as they yell out their favorite horror movie quotes and debate which one is more terrifying. Then the crew unmask their unsuspecting victim and dig really, really deep into the the Irish heritage celebration that is Halloween 3: Season of the Witch.

    Show Segments:

    - Debate Question: Best screamed line in horror movie history?

    - Movie Review: Halloween 3: Season of the Witch (1982)

    - What Would You Do Differently?

    - Awards

    - Final Cut: Movie review scores from hosts and guests

024 Jigsaw: Gettin' Jiggy With It Oct 30, 2017
    Show notes

Deceptive motorcycle sales. Red herrings. Bulk chain purchases. Twists on twists.

2017's Jigsaw continues the Saw franchise 7 years after Saw 3D: The Final Chapter was released and ostensibly the end of the series. However, on the back of multiple successful 'James Waniverse' movies the last few years Lionsgate decided to bring 'Saw' back to movie screens to take advantage of horror's resurgence in culture.

Killings reminiscent of the Jigsaw murders start happening again even after the famous Jigsaw has been confirmed dead for some time. The new game begins and the police are playing catch-up as they search for clues to figure out who this new killer is. Everyone becomes a suspect and the murders hit home for the police who might be being terrorized by one of their own.

Join the Texas Podcast Massacre crew as they try to follow strict journalism rules the best they can while discussing current horror news. Once they progress to the next room/segment they try to make it out of the podcast studio alive and review 2017's 'Jigsaw'.

    023 Jason X: X Gon Give It To Ya Oct 26, 2017
    Show notes

Cryogenic Freezing. VR Teens. Robot Makeouts. Cyborg Jason.

Jason X is not a good movie, but it is a memorable one. Most aptly described as simply 'Jason in space' this movie was the 10th and most expensive of the Friday the 13th franchise when it was released in 2002. This despite the movie being filmed in 2000 and sitting on the shelf for around two years after the release date it was pushed back four separate times as well.

The "plot" of this movie revolves around a 25th century professor and his class of archaeologist students as they unwittingly bring Jason Voorhees onto their space ship. Once he is reanimated he wreaks havoc on the students and a group of comically inept space marines. There are really no standout roles in this movie, but needless to say there is a large and varied amount of killing.

Join the Texas Podcast Massacre crew as they unfreeze from cryo-sleep to debate where Jason should have had a movie instead (Desert, Underground, Retirement Community?). Once they improve on most of the Friday the 13th series we put away the premarital sex and dig into 2002's monstrosity 'Jason X'.

    Show Segments:

    - Debate Question (04:55): Best setting for Jason?

    - Movie Review (12:00): Jason X (2002)

    - What Would You Do Differently? (54:30)

022 Trick 'r Treat: Follow The Rules! Oct 20, 2017
    Show notes

Halloween traditions. Bad bus drivers. Principals. UNICEF.

Trick 'r Treat is quite possibly the best Halloween movie to never get a theatrical release. Originally scheduled to come out in October 2006, it was pulled to miss competition with Saw III. Due to it's direct release to DVD the movie has never been extremely popular

Four main stories intersect and influence each other in this anthology Halloween classic. A sinister principal hands out Halloween candy, children play a prank near the spooky quary, some young friends party in the woods and an old man is tormented by what appears to be a small child. Anna Paquin, Brian Cox and a large ensemble cast bring these horrific stories to life.

Join the Texas Podcast Massacre crew as they trick or treat down in the podcast studio and fight over who got the best candy and who won the debate for best Halloween tradition. After they carve their Jack-O-Lanterns they pull the razor blades out of their candy and review 2007's Trick 'r Treat.

    Show Segments:

    - Debate Question (03:30): Favorite Halloween tradition?

    - Movie Review (14:20): Trick 'r Treat (2007)

    021 The Babysitter: Dad's With A Protestant Oct 16, 2017
    Show notes

Bullies. Horny Teens. Over-protective parents. Protestants.

The Babysitter is the Netflix original movie that takes the 80s teen babysitter fantasy and darkly updates it for current audiences. The touching relationship between Cole (12 year old outcast) and Bee (cool, hot teen babysitter) lulls you into a false sense of security in the movie's opening third. Once the blood starts flowing in this one, the pace quickens and doesn't let up even until the final credits.

The main lead of the movie is Cole (Judah Lewis) - the 12 year old outsider who still somehow needs a babysitter. His genesis from total loser to smart survivalist is a treat to see and a throwback to 80s coming-of-age films. The main antagonist Bee (Samara Weaving) is equal parts attractive and dangerous - although you never really root against her despite the body count.

Join the Texas Podcast Massacre crew as they stay up past their bedtimes to discuss their own horror character dream team. After pretending to fall asleep they sneak out of the podcast studio to discuss 2017's McG slasher 'The Babysitter'.

    Show Segments:

    - Debate Question (02:29): Name your horror Dream Team

    - Movie Review (14:35): The Babysitter (2017)

    020 Happy Death Day: Kappa's Don't Eat Cupcakes Oct 14, 2017
    Show notes

Wake Up. Live your Life. Get Killed. Again.

Happy Death Day takes the revered formula of Groundhog Day and mashes it up with a modern college slasher flick. The premise seems so simple that it's a surprise that it took until 2017 to be executed. Once again Blumhouse Productions (Get Out, Split) is hoping that this slick concept will translate to yet another 2017 low-budget horror hit.

Jessica Rothe plays the protagonist Tree Gelbman as she is repeatedly murdered in increasingly creative ways on her birthday. Each time she relives her final 24 hours she gets closer and closer to figuring out who is coming after her and why. It seems more like a video game than a movie but this movie walks the line well and delivers a satisfying entry into slasher film canon.

Join the Texas Podcast Massacre crew as they die laughing over and over again debating the first skill that you would learn if you were in a time loop. Once they blow the candles out on the debate they dissect 'Happy Death Day' for Friday the 13th, October 2017.

    Show Segments

    019 Gerald's Game: A-Wristed Development Oct 05, 2017
    Show notes

Authentic Kobe beef. Creepy sex fantasies. A dog that is not man's best friend. The Moonlight Man.

Based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, Gerald's Game is the latest film from up-and-coming horror director Mike Flanagan. Flanagan (who will direct on 2018's The Haunting of Hill House adaption) has collaborated with Netflix to bring this film this surreal story that some thought would be impossible to bring to film.

Carla Gugino, playing the protagonist Jessie, gives a tour de force performance. She carries the entire film and makes her character being hand-cuffed to a bed for a majority of the movie riveting anyway. The interplay between the imagined versions of Gerald and Jessie is entertaining and ambiguous while driving the plot and the limited action forward.

Join the Texas Podcast Massacre crew as debate with each other and themselves about who their imaginary cheerleaders would be. Once they solve that problem they work through the kinks of this year's Gerald's Game and escape the podcast studio before it's too late.

018 Rosemary's Baby: Word To The Mothers Sep 28, 2017
    Show notes

Nosy neighbors with chocolate mouse. Terrible obstetricians. People going blind out of nowhere. Terrible, terrible necrophilia jokes.

Rosemary's Baby is a classic of the horror genre with allegories and themes of isolation, religion, sexism and motherhood just to name a few. Often imitated but never fully eclipsed, Rosemary's Baby is revered in film schools almost 50 years later and was the favorite movie of Stanley Kubrick. From Rosemary's pixie haircut to one of the most disturbing endings to a film ever - this classic is as potent now as it was when it was released.

Join the Texas Podcast Massacre coven as they quickly betray the pregnant host in the group to a bunch of elderly satanists while debating how much they can get for the betrayal. Once those incantations have been completed the paranoia rises as they review the 1968 masterpiece 'Rosemary's Baby'.
