028 | Kate Nowlan Explains Why Having a Backup Plan in Business is Important

Kate Nowlan makes it happen as COO of GRACED BY GRIT. She manages her team leading by example and rarely sacrificing fun. She starts an impromptu ab workout in the office onemoment to get endorphins pumping for creativity and focus and leads a company meeting the next.

With her positive attitude, she shows her employees why working for GRACED BY GRIT is her dream job each and every day. She is a natural people-person and loves working with women.

Outside of the office, Kate is raising two teenage daughters while squeezing in yoga, pilates, a de-stressing walk or a run (almost) every day. When she isn't folding laundry (hello, teenage girls) she finds time for her boyfriend, family and friends usually while sipping an extra dirty martini.

Kate's entrepreneurial journey started out a bit differently than some, she started by doing small things here and there to help make ends meet for her family. This eventually escalated to a full-blown business when Kate moved to California.

After separating from her husband, Kate began a career that she'd been yearning for.

After being fired after only 5 months at her job, she had to quickly bounce to her Plan B. Kate experienced some scary moments after she was fired. She was responsible for her two daughters and knew she had to quickly jump back in after reconnecting with old personal training clients.

One of those old clients led to a business partnership. This partnership, is what grew into Kate's current company GRACED BY GRIT.

Kate shares with us, how even when she was feeding her kids PB&J sandwiches, she was able to make huge leaps in her business.

025 | Marc Von Musser Tells Us Not to Be Afraid to Invest $38K in Yourself

Marc Von Musser is the Director of Sales at Clients on Demand, the most effective online business coaching firm in the industry today. Training coaches, consultants and entrepreneurs to create their own 6-7 figure businesses. For the last 35+ years, Marc has been helping businesses large and small, massively increase their sales and eliminate cancellations.

Marc considered himself to be a great salesperson from the start, excelling at selling candy bars and newspapers, but quickly realized that there was more to the game, than the old pushy sales techniques.

Marc believed in investing in himself, and did not shy away from seminars that were putting him into debt. Through the process he found himself in $38K in debt and had to figure out a means to learn more without spending more money. Marc shares his story of negotiating his way into the trainings that ended up changing his sales tactics and his career.

If you're an entrepreneur, remember it's all about the client. Stop selling them. Start serving them to their solution, to their dream and leave the high pressure sales at the door.

Marc experienced NO after NO, but never let that deter him from making the next call, or knocking on the next door.

Tune in as Marc shares his incredible journey from waiter, to high-powered, non-pressure salesman!

024 | Kris Buchanan tells us Why We Should Slow Our Business Growth

Kris Buchanan founded GOODONYA in 2001, which originally had 5 locations. In 2010 she created the GOODONYA bar (which is no longer being made) and then in 2014 she started the 1051 minerals and electrolyte drink.

Kris is the very proud owner of the delicious GOODONYA Organic Restaurant in Encinitas, which I am a HUGE fan of!

I dive deep with Kris; she shares how creating and selling a product can be extremely difficult when you don't have the kind of money that bigger manufacturers have. Kris did not let that stop her from pursuing what she wanted though (she tells us more in this interview). Despite not being a salesperson she jumped in with both feet and made a huge push to get her nutrition bars into different grocery chains.

However, Kris shares why she believes she would have been more successful if she had slowed down, learned more about sales and marketing, and found her target audience.

If all you see on Facebook is that you need to hustle, hustle, hustle, I invite you to listen to this episode, where Kris actually encourages my listeners to slow down business growth, and focus on just their niche market.

Kris bares all in this in a vulnerable interview of how her NO's which led her to where she is today. You DO NOT want to miss this episode!

023 | Steve Olsher Asks How Safe Is Your Business? Nov 01, 2017

023 | Steve Olsher asks How Safe Is Your Business?

Steve is the New York Times bestselling author of What Is Your WHAT? Discover The ONE Amazing Thing You Were Born To Do, and the host of the #1 rated radio show/podcast Reinvention Radio, and I'm SO excited to have him on today's show.

Can you imagine being removed from your own company, when you were just 20 years old?

This is exactly what happened to Steve Olsher, our guest on Success Unfiltered. Steve shared with us that he had the idea for his very first business at the age of 19. He had been DJ'ing at clubs in his area, had curated a pretty big following and decided that he'd open a club that provided amazing dance music and was alcohol-free (since he was underage).

He created his business plan, found investors, and hired a manager to manage the club. What he hadn't anticipated was that the manager and the investor would be in cahoots and had a different vision for the club. In the end, because their visions didn't align, Steve had to just walk away. He had no way of fighting them.

Steve learned a VERY important lesson here; you need to put protective mechanisms in place so that something like this doesn't happen. However, he admits to still not having implemented it, many years later.

Steve shares a few other stories where he clearly had not protected himself or his business.

Steve is hoping that by sharing his information, he can keep others from making the same mistakes he did.

Steve gets raw and vulnerable in this episode and shares some incredible lessons learned. You DO NOT want to miss this episode!

    • When he decided to take liquor.com public, he quickly learned "There was no pot of gold there at the end of the rainbow."

    • Steve shares his story of losing much of his real estate properties and how it led him into a very dark time.

022 | Julie Busha Shares How YOU Get Sales!

This week I'm bringing you a fellow Shark Tank alum, Julie Busha. She's an entrepreneur at heart who bootstrapped and launched the innovative relish company called Slawsa in the highly competitive mainstream grocery market. The lifelong saver also endured a buy-out request from a former partner early on in the venture…a decision that increased her risks significantly.

But, guess what? She came out on top!

Julie shares her stories of working in sports marketing and how what she learned there helped the way she works with others today. Not only that, Julie shares the juicy story of why she was fired from that sports marketing company, simply for standing up for a contract they had with a client.

This firing led Julie to re-think her career choice. She started helping small entrepreneurs gain visibility in the marketplace. She even helped one entrepreneur get a spot on QVC!

When it comes to marketing, Julie knows what she's doing!

But, Julie's most important feat to date, was her use of a family recipe to create Slawsa a delicious cross between slaw and salsa. Julie's products are in 8000 stores, which wasn't easy and certainly did not happen overnight. This took a lot of hard work, effort and follow-up!

Julie shares ALL of her tips and strategies when it comes to following-up with potential buyers and prospects. This episode is definitely a MUST LISTEN if you're ready to start making sales!

019 | Dan Negroni Shares The Myth on Millennials

On the show this week, we have Dan Negroni who is the founder of LaunchBox. Dan has built his business predicated upon connecting innovative youth with age-old experience, or in other words, bridging the gap between the generations.

Dan believes that instead of pushing kids into college we need to teach them what life is all about, ie. building relationships. It isn't about selling, it's about trusting relationships where you can provide value to others. It's about how young people can learn to frame their words, their mindset, and their approach. Right now, Dan believes we do an awful job of teaching this in traditional education, but we don't have to!

We can teach kids that it takes time to harness their power and build their mindset. Rushing into anything isn't necessary!

To start any journey it's important to learn about yourself. You need to become comfortable with what you're asking of others and know it will provide value to them in some way. We are all incredibly powerful in our ability to influence people.

Dan tells us what the best way to help others is, and as well as how to learn what our master skill set is! If you're ready to dig deep and find your true passion, then you don't want to miss this episode.

    • To Dan a NO means not now, or NO, thank you, it's not a fit for them. It's not a NO to what he's doing or saying or trying to provide to the other person.
    • Dan believes that we're doing a crappy job of teaching young people how to harness their power in traditional education.
