179 - Shark Tank's Kevin Harrington on Mentoring and Meeting Goals Sep 21, 2020
    Show notes

I think that aside from the advice that Kevin Harrington, one of the original sharks on Shark Tank, gives about how to find a mentor, working with a mentor, and why having mentors is so great, the best part of this interview was listening to Kevin tell the stories of his own experiences with his mentors. He has so many examples of how he met someone who knew someone else, who then got him money, or an introduction, or a job—whatever he needed at the time. The key is to talk to people and to not be afraid to ask.

    Key Points

    • How to find a mentor is really a question about how to build relationships. Look to friends, relatives, professional organizations—people who can put you in touch with other people who can help. But also look to people you interact with during the course of doing business—suppliers, distributors, financiers, lawyers, accountants. They could be a valuable connection and should be willing to help.
    • Shifts in mindset, which a mentor can often provide, can move you beyond what you initially thought was possible.
    • It's one thing to take advice. It's another thing to believe the advice. And it's still another thing to act on the advice. Be your mentor's best student, act on their advice, and offer something of value in exchange.

Action Item Get a mentor and be the best student that mentor has.

178 - Patrick Kelly - Entrepreneurs: Focus on the Vision and You'll Win the Client Sep 17, 2020
    Show notes

I bet our interview with Patrick Kelly has at least one Golden Nugget for every seven minutes of listening time. We talk about how having a vision is especially important to entrepreneurs when they don't have capital, real experience, or an established brand. But we also get into taking initiative and pushing forward, how relationships can lead to all kinds of introductions, and how resourcefulness can be more important than resources. And it's crazy, but no matter the guest, the topics of humanizing your brand, building trust, and gaining your clients' trust always enter the conversation.

    Key Points

    • Patrick's experience trying to get investors to back his product proves that when something doesn't go the way you had hoped, it doesn't mean that something better didn't happen.
    • Great entrepreneurs are ones who can sell a vision without any tangible proof that their idea is going to work.
    • While the problem isn't restricted to financial professionals, many typically don't properly measure the success of their marketing, and they end up trying and discarding tactics with little data. If you're not accurately measuring the effectiveness of your marketing, you don't know what's working and what isn't.
    • Don't be discouraged by a lack of direct leads. A consistent presence, retargeting, dozens of touchpoints over months of time, Facebook ads, video text messages, and more … all your marketing efforts go toward building mindshare around your brand so that when people think of an industry, they think of you.

    Action Item

First, make sure you have a strong vision. It should be big enough so others can see their visions coming to fruition if they buy into yours. Then ask yourself, "Am I selling my vision with passion?"

    Connect

    175 - Ravi Abuvala - Leads aren't your problem … it's your system Sep 07, 2020
    Show notes

You don't hear Luke say it, but as soon as we stopped recording our interview with Ravi Abuvala he proclaimed, "That was incredible. This is one of our best five interviews."

We completely agree because Ravi doesn't just spout platitudes. He gives real answers to real questions like how much should I spend on Facebook ads?

Ravi was all set to go to his pick of top law schools when he decided becoming a lawyer wasn't what he wanted to do. Instead, he started his own business, Scaling with Systems, to help entrepreneurs scale their business and systematize their lead generation process. And he's been outrageously successful doing it.

You can't help but be impressed by this guy if only because he's tremendously skilled, generous, and living the kind of life we want for all our ReminderMedia clients. Plus, we fell in love with his daily routine.

We hope you get as much out of our interview with Ravi as we did.

174 - How Instagram Can Grow Your Business Sep 03, 2020
    Show notes

Luke and Josh have nine (count 'em, NINE!) helpful tips in this week's Silver Dollar episode for how to generate leads on Instagram. That means not only how to get real Instagram followers, but also how to keep them and eventually turn them into clients and raving fans.

The thing to know about growing a business on Instagram is that it takes time. It's a long-term game. You win by consistently providing value and by engaging with your audience. (If you're a fan of Stay Paid, you saw that one coming.) Here's why:

The more time you spend posting and engaging on Instagram, or any social media platform for that matter, the more familiar you become to your audience. Familiarity breeds credibility. In turn, credibility lends itself to trust. It's that easy and that hard.

But don't worry—the podcast pals have got your back with nine tips you can begin to implement today to generate leads on Instagram and grow your business.

173 - Adam Holt - Want Clients to Trust You? Lead with Advice Aug 31, 2020
    Show notes

When Luke and Josh talk about how to build and nurture relationships, they are, in large part, talking about how to build trust with customers. For this week's Stay Paid guest, developing trust in relationships with clients and prospects begins with clearly communicating three value propositions that all clients want from their financial advisor—indeed, from every service professional with whom they work.

Adam Holt, CEO and Founder of Asset-Map, says if you want to know how to build trust with customers, then demonstrate you:

    1. Know what matters to them.

    2. Understand their unique situation.

    3. Provide them with options.

You can't tell a customer to trust you. You have to communicate with them in ways that prove you know, understand, and can provide what they want. Do that consistently, and you'll build trust in your relationships with clients. It's what Adam helps his clients do.

171 - Tamara Johnson: Dream big. Fail hard. Get back up. Aug 24, 2020
    Show notes

You've likely never heard of Tamara Johnson, but after listening to this podcast, she'll be hard to forget.

Tamara is a digital marketing specialist at ReminderMedia and she's as genuine and real as it gets. And we're super excited that she agreed to be on Stay Paid because she lays it all on the line so our listeners can finally believe and trust that failure is a part of the process. AND. IT'S. OKAY. But wallowing in self-pity, giving up, or letting it define who you are definitely are not.

Tamara shares her story of quitting her job, doing all the necessary research, getting the best advice, investing her entire life's savings, and putting every ounce of passion and determination she had into a business that went belly up in a highly public way.

But Tamara wants you to be inspired by her story, even as she pulls no punches talking about living in a friend's basement, eating Ramen noodles, and swallowing her pride to chauffeur intoxicated people from bar to bar.

Tamara also talks about the utter sense of failure she felt when she wasn't going to make it as an entrepreneur and would have to get a job … and how she finally got over herself.

Listen to her story and you'll love Tamara as much as we do.
